When I was a welding apprentice we used to use puter drym plugs melts it puutt it into an anhle iron to make rods to fix the old volkwagen city golf and jumbo golf door handel meganisms. Maybe sir you can if thos dont work make your own rods to tig with out of an old one.
As I bought my Lightweight with a 200tdi already fitted, (my 1st ever diesel), I look forward to your strip down & rebuild of this engine. Should make a great addition to my TH-cam store of 'How to' videos. Laughed at the Middlesbrough comment - we in the Black Country say similar things about Brummies!
I actually broke down in my series truck and jury rigged an electric fuel pump to get me home. I traced the fuel supply problem to a blocked filter and lo and behold I bought a filter and assembly from you during the last round of Sunday sort outs! Fitted tonight and back to full power! Thanks Mike 👍
looking forward to seeing the lt77 seal collar removing tool ,removed one with a split clamp bearing remover but it was bloody tight and damaged the old collar luckily it was a damaged rusted collar. Had to make a tool to press the new one onto the shaft that worked out well.
Out of interest The tools for the Land Rover are supplied by Churchill tools The interesting thing is, these tools were 'universal tools' used on BMC/Leyland vehicles, this meant they were basic push or pull tools, which were capable of having adaptors fitted for different vehicles. As we do not need such on our vehicles, then I conjured up the idea of 1 tool for both jobs
You are the number one young fella. Talking about r380 my no one friend Ray just lost all gears in his r380,it even goes into gear without a clutch and it don't even move. I think the input shaft on the gearbox is RS😊. He might need that collar removal tool soon😊
Mike - this week my 99 gems p38 4.0 petrol started getting combustion in the coolant. I took the heads off and the gaskets look fine. The cylinder liners don’t appear that they slipped. Cylinder #4 was steam cleaned. It’s never overheated. I’m tearing the timing cover off next and pressure testing the block. I’m so mad cuz I absolutely love this truck. It’s only got 150k on it. Any thoughts ?
It's getting coolant in the number 4 - there could be a cracked liner or a tiny fissure between the block and liner It will not be the gasket, and 99.99% sure it is not a cracked head
@@BritannicaRestorations Thanks Mike for the advice. I was so hoping for a head gasket job. 😩. My LR3 is at 212k and running strong so I still have her 🙏
On the V8 there is a coolant passage at the front of the block and at the back - coolant travels from the front through the head and out of the back - there are no coolant passages between the cylinders - so coolant cannot get into the cylinders from the head gasket - unless it has come from the front or rear passage in 1 or 4 (rare)
@@BritannicaRestorations makes total sense Mike. If I look for another engine should I stay with the 4.0 or look at 4.6 also. Will the computer work with a different engine? not sure there are too many around these parts anyways. I really appreciate your time responding to this.
If you say number 4 cylinder is wash clean, then there is a slim chance the gasket 'may' have blown The 3.9 and the 4.0 are the similar block, BUT the 4.0 and 4.6 could be different in being a GEMS engine and a Lucas engine management system - same motor - but chalk and cheese And even if you get a full 4.6 unit that bolts right in, the ECU will need reprogramming of the security of the existing vehicle for it to work $$$$! A real can of worms!
Better not hold your breath! They are the most hopeless conversion unless you have a V8. Had a Disco 1 300Tdi with an auto, and it would not pull your hat off - and not very economical
@@BritannicaRestorations We had a D1 300tdi auto for 11 years and the boss missed it when I sold it. I agree at first it was gutless but we noticed an immediate change once I removed the EGR. Other than normal service, it served us well as a family car taking us on many trips. Fast forward to today and I'm getting tired of stirring the stick in the Defender and want to change to an auto. I've seen just last weekend 4 different Defenders with auto's. The owners praised their conversions, even the 2 300Tdi's.
Well they must like going slow! The issue with the Defender 300 Tdi and an auto box is the shift happens just as the turbo is spinning up (2000 RPM) - so you lose momentum It was never a factory option as it was so bad. D1 was lighter and has smaller wheels thus better suited to the auto box - you may have to change the ratio in the transfer box to get better performance in the Defender But to be honest, there are not easy to get parts for - the last auto 300tdi was 25 years ago in 1999 They are not the same parts as a V8 - the torque converter is different and the governor and valve block is not the same in the autobox I once asked Dave Ashcroft if it was feasible to convert an V8 box to a 300Tdi autobox, and he said it would be cheaper to buy a new 300Tdi autobox (now obsolete) Many years ago we did fit a HS2.8 to a RR with the V8 box, but we had to change the kick down quadrant to match the engine - Dave Ashcroft said there were almost 30 types of quadrant available, and he could not tell me which was the best Good luck!
I turned and made a timing pin with a heavy spring you can hear it go in from the front of a landrover, great video mike

Too long...

Like to watch all the build rebuild gearbox transfer box videos mike, can't have enough of them. Learn something on every one
I will try and do a more detailed video on the 1:6 swap with an ATB

Glad you liked it!
I love your rebuild videos, helped me partialy diagnose my lt230 tcase issues with shifting into low range.
Great to hear!

Oh! I thought you would be all over the girl/thing doing the breakdancing....
Loved the crack about 'more knobs than over the border in Middlesborough.' I've been there and I know what you mean . . . 🤣😂Thanks - it made my day!
I have been all over the world, but nothing compares to a night out in the Club Bongo International!
You may not be a scientist, but you've certainly got a doctorate in Land Rovers and humour. Loved the knob gag. 😂
Never boaring Mike , and funny too bet lots don't get up North humour 😀
Lol!
Bring on more of the Sunday sort outs! Series 2a stuff is always appreciated!
I gave away a lot of Series stuff to the Halifax Rover club a long time ago - I never see any Series trucks here now
At last we have 200tdi to look forward to....thanks Mike and air con installation too.... My dreams are coming true😊
Right on!

It could be the layshaft bearing at the front has destroyed - layshaft shaft drops and then no drive
Blimey Mike it's like buses, nothing for awhile then they all turn up at once :)
Strange isn't it!?
Looking forwards to the 90 video😎
You and me both!
Great that you're kept busy these days Mike. Looking forward to the 90. Careful working on the roof, don't want to join me with a bionic hip!
I have some scaffolding..
What do you call a man in a suit in Middlesbrough?
The defendant! ;-)
Or guilty..
Darn, and here's me with a timing kit....
Too late for a refund? Lol!
Don a few selectors in the past....it works
That sounds like a x mot 90
Mike, I’ll take that 200tdi P/S pulley off your hands to help clean up the shop more :)
I am still looking for a substitute pulley for my test bench - I use it all the time now, so cannot have it stood idle
Understood
Love the videos. I have an issue with my 12j, is there anyway I can get in touch?
Wayyy finally a 200tdi!! 🤣
I do not see many here these days
Where to order the timing pin??
I need one❤

I would be interested in 2 alpine windows if they fit my 2A 109 SW thanks
Yeap! And they will be in the Sunday sort out - 3 sets only then they are gone!
Are they not meant to have that bit of slop on the middle fitting to accommodate any misalignment the selector shaft and the gear set?
.5mm
I've got a cast iron clutch fork for a V8. Not needed.

Hi. Do you ever work in td5s?
Very rarely see them here
Mike did you ever find out if a 300 head would go on a 200.
It will fit, but you need a lot of 300Tdi parts other than just the head
