  • This week we meet the amazing painter Anna Maria Vargiu. I visited her in Groningen where she's living with her two children and husband. After a delicious Italian dish we went to her studio to get to know each other and make each others portraits. This is Anna Maria's website: annamariavargiu.com/
    Later this week I completed the larger version of the marching band and made a houseportrait ready for delivery. My daughter joined me one day in the studio.

    Great conversation and nice work. I really liked her unfinished portrait. It kind of symbolises the unfinished conversation which is what every conversation about art is.

    It’s a real thrill to hear two artists in conversation. At times it felt as though I was eavesdropping. I am nearly 70 years old and I’ve been painting since I was 18. At the beginning of my career I had a mentor and it was nice to have the company of a fellow artist. Nowadays, it’s sometimes feel as though I paint in a vacuum, but the sharing of your videos fills in much of this void. Nice to hear new approaches, and makes me think of my own art in a different way. Thanks again, I also love the progression of your marching band paintings. As a musician, I’ve always been attracted to paintings with musicians. nice to see how you explore different approaches and methods in a series like this. Happy new year, Irwin.

    Great decision to do the marching band at the larger size. You feel as though you are falling in behind them! Loved the meeting up to paint each other’s portrait too. Always interesting to eavesdrop on the thoughts of other artists. Happy New Year!

    Very much enjoyed the whole video. But thrilled how the Marching Band was finished. Amazing light and atmosphere, and within this sousaphone became the focus of the whole helping us to hear the music! Fascinating to see the final stages to accomplish this! I'm very envious of the future owner of this master piece! Sometime I would love to know what decision making goes into your use of gouache. Thank you for the time you spend in your informative videos - they are unique.

    Once again a fascinating video. I felt right at home watching the portrait-session; that is a great way of seeing and learning from each other at the same time. My father and I did that quite a few times some years ago. The house portrait has turned out very nice, and it was great to see the large "Marching Band" getting finished. Wondering what your next "free" project will be when the "band" pictures are all out of your system? Have you thought about that? Looking forward to next week.

    Cool.. I actually felt that I could sense the musical noise and atmosphere when you were working on your big painting, and the word 'cacophony' came into my mind. Its very powerful. (Also I was so relieved when you finished the main guy's feet, cos I was worried he was going to be out of step with the sousaphone player... years of playing in pipebands makes one vigilant/anxious 😂)

    I really enjoyed watching you and the other artist rendering each other. Really cool. Your daughter is adorable!!! And wow, the band painting is really coming alive. I am curious why you use chalk or pastels for highlights instead of just a bright water color or gouache. Is it brighter and the different consistency makes it stand out? Thanks for all you do. 🤗Lynda Amen Napa CA

    That’s always a good time to paint someone else’s portrait when they do yours. You know I think that the last version of the parade is my favorite, it’s dinamic(I forget English) dinámico, the complimentary colors plus the projection of light in the front really makes the painting feel the movement. When someone compliments me I usually say that there is still a chance for me to ruin it😂❤😊 By the way, what does it mean in Dutch when someone says in regards to being in awe of another’s artwork when they say “you are allowed to walk next to your shoes for awhile”. Is that like saying that one can be proud of their accomplishment? Kick off there clogs so to speak?😊 just wondering. Tx

    • @TitusMeeuws
      @TitusMeeuws  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Jennie. We say the same here; walking next to your shoes. It means that you’r too proud of yourself, even arrogant maybe

    • @ninner196
      @ninner196 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TitusMeeuws ooh cause it was said in English by someone from there. Ok they weren’t saying it about me at least. I just think it was a translation misunderstanding with no ill intent. Thx I had translated it the kind way to English/Spanish. Ok well we won’t kick our’s off then and say that we are done. Thank you as always and have a lovely weekend.

      It´s ALL about how the painter feels, how he SEES the scene and how he interprets HIS "thing" that he experienced there on site. It´s his desire and his playing with the situation and with all the possibilities and variations to let this special moment appear - a particular snapshot, plus imagination, plus artistic interpretation, plus refreshing weirdness :)
      It´s NOT about an "image", a copy from a real thing, that already exists. And the painter´s interpretation has no claim to reach out for everyone´s understanding...
