Hi - see the paracord has found a new home on your wrist. Just a quick observation - do you need hinges on the lid at all - you can make the whole surface removable in sections.
Those iron hinges will rust quickly, James. Slap some paint on them, or swap them for a brass piano hinge type arrangement. Otherwise, crack on. Hope you have a good Easter. All the best.
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt The mattress will absorb sweat. and hold it against the metal. It's why foam mattresses in caravans and boats usually have slatted or perforated bases, for ventilation. If the bed is used rarely, you'll probably get away with it, just make sure to air the mattress after use. Cheers, bud.
Those dark spots on the bottom of the foam show that it was fitted over a well ventilated space. It might pay you to drill a few holes in the base to increase air flow and stop condensation.
Great hatch work James, looks really neat 👍 I think a turnbuckle would be more secure though. Foam should be fire retardant. If it isn't new foam shouldn't break the bank and can be cut with a (borrowed) electric carving knife. Crack on mate!
James you might want to look at some old vlogs of Cruising the Cut - he put some tennis balls between the mattress and bulkhead to help with air flow against condensation ......
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Tennis balls 🎾 yeah - to keep the mattress from touching the bulkhead enabling extra airflow - lot of moisture in a mattress, especially on a boat where there is also extra condensation....
Thats a decent practical job done there James. Can I put on a fluorescent vest and pick up a clipboard for a second and get you to check if that foam is flame retardent foam? It probably is OK if its relatively new but if its been kicking about for 20 years, it may not be. Confined space, under one of the exits, etc etc.. just a thought. (puts down clipboard with mumbled apology!)
There is a danger of that hatch falling on top of your head as it's in a boat and not stable, better to put a turn buckle or catch to hold it up in place when it's up. It's a good size you'll be able to access fully into the bay, well done, good thinking....
Just a thought; sometime in the future I presume you'll add bug screens? At this opening hinged at the top, with magnets holding it up to the ceiling and if it gets a bit too warm, maybe a box fan (pulling the hot air out)? ;-)
James, I admire your wood work efforts but you really must fix that huge gap you have on the right bottom side of the top oak panel. Right in front of your bed - it does just not look right. I'm sure all of us with OCD watching will appreciate that. Thank you!
@@_-martin-_ reluctantly I’ll say you’re welcome - although it now means I’ll have to plain down 90% of that plank just so the 10% fits better! Have a great Easter mate
I thought you might use the cottage door hinges there on the hatch, but the ordinary ones work too. And as 'webpig' says below, be very very careful of music copywrite violations. It would be devastating to lose a swathe of videos, particularly as all it is doing is making it harder to hear you speaking! This is one of the reasons the 'record' companies are spending millions buying musician's back catalogues. They like making money out of 'the small guy'. It has very little to do with their love of music. And Happy Easter - of course!
Yup, people have had whole runs of videos struck off - as their channel gets bigger. It can be devastating. Be careful, and read your terms and conditions.
Evening James. Fantastic utilisation of the bow space 😄 👍🏻
Looking better now! That wood from the gates are really bringing you're boat together😁
Nice job done there. I’m also impressed with your straight cuts. Plus with Floyd playing in the background is a bonus. Stay safe my friend
Thanks pal - enjoy your Easter weekend
Looking really good James--it looks like a real bed now and the cutaway is very attractive, very workmanlike solution to the trapdoor cover, too..
Cheers Sue - Happy Easter
Your "Observation Lounge" is looking great.
Cheers pal - it’s getting there

Great job mate. Getting better all the time
Great job james.
I like the cutout in the oak , it looks like a bunk on a boat now.
Cool - that’s what I was aiming for - makes it more welcoming as a place to chill
James is nearly at 1M views. Well done dude🎉🎉

I love the bracelets Tony - Ava my 13yr old is sporting one too
Looking good. A nice routed rounded edge to the top oak board would make it even more comfortable.
That cut out makes a huge difference. It really looks good.
Coming on very well James, have a great Easter mate.🎥👌👍
You too mate 👍🏼

Happy Easter to you and yours

@@sarkybugger5009 I’m planning on using the bed every night 🤣 - I’ll go for foam and a good sheet I reckon.
I guess you are a better carpenter than a tailor... :))
Oh yes that’s fair to say
Those dark spots on the bottom of the foam show that it was fitted over a well ventilated space. It might pay you to drill a few holes in the base to increase air flow and stop condensation.
Good call
Looks great. If you're going to cut a lot of foam, an electric carving knife works well.

Use a piano hinge.
Lots of screws but it will be sturdy & last.
James...go to 1:26 the shadow behind you. You look like Marg Simpson 😂😂
LOL just checked !!

Cosy! Cover the foam with the sheet to keep it clean for now 👍🏻
I'm in total awe of how straight your jigsaw cuts are. Can you get at the water pump through the hatch?
Thanks - and yes I can access all the water stuff easily.....luckily
Hi James, Have a great Easter Mate. Will watch this Vlog in a couple of hours - can't wait, (sad old git).
Yep that’s definitely sad !! Mate, have yourself a great Easter weekend - enjoy the choc

You’re bang on - good clipboard and hivis moment - I’m 99% sure it’s not fire retardant at all - will replace when budgets allow

Yeah that’s a good point. Will look for one of those
Dave Gilmour in the background 👍 Quality.
couple of foam or rubber pads on the flap so it doesnt bang on the front when lifted. nice cutting
Electric carving knife ideal for cutting foam.

As Wes from "Watch Wes Work" says It`s only temporary unless it works.
I was just wondering would they pass that or is it treated for fire reg
Doubtful but temporary anyway
Pink Floyd - yes!
Use something like sail canvas to cover the shape of the foam , its hardwearing as you will already know .
You are going to need a much thicker and much harder mattress to avoid feeling those hinges. I would get some flush hinges instead.
1:10 ish, your shadow looks like Marge Simpson lol. Love watching though.
I would suggest later on buying some foam that is fire retardant .
I will - good call
Scissors work better on foam. For future reference.
Ever thing is stunning you make me look bad and like the music
Don’t want to make you look bad but glad you approve of the background working music
Shouldn’t the hinges be the other way so the raised bit doesn’t bother the kids back.
😂😂😂😂 who cares James dont
That’s a small bed space for two kids, aren’t they going to grow ?
Can't beat a bit of pink floyd
👍🏼
You’ll be doing this to you retire. There’s seems to be no rush now

Is that not allowed then?? I haven’t had a copyright warning yet but really don’t want a strike
