Animation of the major events between European countries from 1000 until 2020. The text frame on the left shows important events, and the text frame in the top-right shows general trends of the era.
First of all, this video is a SUMMARY of the events in the last millennium. Of course I couldn't add every important event that occurred, and neither could I fit every state to appear at the right moment in time. This involves the countries of Switzerland, Luxembourg and Albania, which I couldn't fit until the end of WW2. Also I couldn't fit the European micro-states, the Baltic states from 1918-1940 and the help of Canadians and others, during WW2.
The size of the countryball corresponds to the country's relative size, economic power, military power, population, and influence in European politics. However, the main goal of the video is not to visualize the relative power of the European states, but it is to provide a concise overview of the events and wars that occurred and the International relations between the states.
The video was made using Adobe After Effects and with the help of lots of historical internet sources.

I want to stress that this video is summary and a simplification of history. More kingdoms, duchys, vassals etc. have existed in the past 1000 years, but these are in my opinion the most important and influential ones. If I were to fit every state that existed in there, balls would get too small and texts would become unreadable. If an event or state is not in here, it does not mean I deny its occurence or existence. It just means it's too much detail to show here.
This means this animation's main goal is to present history in a fun and visual way. The majority of the world population knows very little about history and I hope animations like these will spark their interest. I you're a history mastermind and you disagree with my choices then that's possible and I will take your feedback into consideration when I update this video ^^

The geostrategic location of France isn't ideal: in the middle of several historical great powers (in particular Spain, UK and HRE/Germany) France had fight on multiple fronts several times.

Very accurate and helpful way of explaining the history of Europe. They should teach this in school, well done!!
Some major conflicts are missing, like emperor-italian cities war in 13th c., Venitian-Genoese war, French invasion of Italy in 16th c., Crimean war in 19th (UK, France, Turkey, Piedmont against Russia). But all in all an excellent sum up.

jigi it’s pretty hard to illustrate the Crimean War in this format since there’s not really any territorial gains by the Allied forces against Russia and that Russia and Western Europe is several balls apart.
