He could have likely pulled that sled over the mound of dirt at the end of the track and kept going. It's cheating when you bring a 30-ton articulated truck to a tractor pull.
@@macclark4112 I drove a 40 ton Volvo of the same type, on top of 6wd, they a have a heel button which locks the driveline as one, incredibly hard to stop them on a reasonably firm surface, and a lot of fun to drive.
A very nice demonstration of torque vs. horsepower. Power is force per time, and combustion enginges mechanical gearboxes need rpm to get the power up. With a hydraulic converter transmission, the engine can work with optimal rpm and with enough mass and torque you can pull what you want. Same with the good old steam tractor: heavy as hell and full torque out of standstill. Next thing I want to see is a D11 pulling several sleds chained together.
I got my share of time around those machines, it was working pretty hard. Probably 75-80% of what it could do, but it'll overheat the transmission pretty quickly
Sleds are so dang hard because dirt builds up at the front the further it goes making it exponentially harder to pull, with the angle the chain is at and the truck not throwing roostertails he could have drug that sled home and back
To my eye, it looks like the tow cable is rigged to the truck high enough to actually lift the front of the sled, preventing the sled blade from digging deeper.
I'm pretty sure that the weight on the sled thing moves forward as it gets pulled (i think there's some sort of gear mechanism that connects the rear wheels with a pulley thing idk). This way, the weight is shifted off of the rear axle and pushes down on the front, which makes it increasingly harder to pull. So as it gets harder to pull, the tractor will eventually stop. The winner of the sled pull is whoever makes it the furthest. Take all of this info with a grain of salt since i'm no expert on this sport and i've only watched a handful of videos about it.
I've seen them use Artics to pull scrapers that likely weigh 2-3 times what that sled weighs. He probably could have done it in a higher gear if he wanted to.
It is not certain of course but it would possibly be a different story if the drawbar of the dump truck was at the regulation height for a standard pulling vehicle ???
The diesel engine in that truck is designed to produce torque, like strength. The other engine measurement is horsepower, think of that like the quickness or speed
As a Operaor of these things thats no work at all these carry around 140K and go up hills at 11+ grade and shift through gears mind you that they weight about as much as they carry. This isnt enough work for the starter of this thing. Cool Video though!!

Huh..its almost like it was ment to haul rock up mountains that are 30x heavier than that sled?
Cesar Palmos It is and it’s only the 30 Ton unit. I drove the 40 Ton unit.

That made me chuckle Cesar.

Kris G Not sure about that, these trucks pull scrapers
Dump Truck driver: "That sledge appears to be following me rather close!"
Damn tailgaters
No need to fill the back with rock for traction. I'm a just gonna let it idle empty to save fuel.

like bringing a Tank to a gun fight...
They actually have videos of tanks pulling these sleds
now all them top fuel drags look ridiculous.
That truck didn’t even know it was pulling something. 😂🤣😂.
Dump truck driver be like: I'mma take this home with me!
Maybe he was wondering if they hooked the sled up.
Weight all the way forward, brakes locked up on the sled, no F’s given
Basically
Either that's a very quiet engine, or he didn't even need to come off idle...
It was definitely off idle, but they're surprisingly quiet machines
Haha, i noticed the sled wheels not turning also. Just bad ass.
Big dump truck , how far can you pull a sled ?
Big dump truck :
Yes
That wasn't a tractor pull: that was a commercial.
The front end of an ADT is sometimes called the "tractor" ;)
"And where did you want this?"
It literally sounds like it never came off idle, just put er in low n let the clutch out, wonder what damage it could do if he just sends it🤘🤘
HM300's don't have clutches mate, Torque conv. and an auto transmission...
@@Senkino5o not a heavy equipment specialist, I work on highway semi's just sayin, that thing wasn't having a hard time at all
It could be in a lower gear on the governor because those komatsu's are very quiet machines

Great run Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Got torque?

What's all the fuss the other tractors make? this is so easy!
Truck driver: hey you still back there?
Weird how a 6x6 dumptruck which is made to haul around 30 or so tons in a muddy mine can easily pull such a tiny machine
the chain is very high on the dump truck and lifting the sled
Correct. I don't think it would make a difference though. That truck would probably pull two of those sleds tied together.
When a chihuahua refuses to walk
That looked effortless...
Homie just takin' that sledge home with him...
Probably didn't even notice someone had hooked the sled up
Steam Tractor: Finally a worthy opponent, OUR BATTLE WILL BE LEGENDARY!!
This thing wins by forfeit because the steam tractor will literally flip over backwards if it can't move what it's chained to.
Didn't even have to try. Magnificent.
And the crowd goes wild!!!!
LOL
As the driver wounded did they even hooked it up yet
If the truck was 1/3 loaded with sand it wont need to look back. Just keep going
Simultaneously the most exciting and boring pull of the day.
In the middle of the pull and the driver is hanging on to, well its a sandwich, he's taking a lunch break.
What sledge?
Totally murdered that competition lol
Half way through, i was wondering when it was going to start.
and it won right?
thats funny, all those people building these super high output engines and tractors and this thing didnt even strucggle
Well yeah, it's got 6 wheels pulling vs only 2 for tractors....
This thing cost half a million
Also helps it's 10x the weight of anything actually competing
That guy is asking, where do you want this sled?
* Dump truck driver" Here hold my beer, I got this !!!
He probably still had his beer on him 🤣
I'd like to hook it to one of our cat 777's I doubt it'd even notice the sled even with the articulating truck attached to it
Curious how much weight was in the transfer box.
Sled used Weigh Down
*It wasn't very effective.*
That’s like me hitching my little red wagon to my bicycle.
Legend says he took the fullweight sledge home with him... :D
So, I wonder what the friction co-efficient was for that ground. Factoring in the fact that it was wet (slippery?)
To my eye, it looks like the tow cable is rigged to the truck high enough to actually lift the front of the sled, preventing the sled blade from digging deeper.
agreed, so it did not add weight by grabbing more dirt, but still impressive
Bet it could do it in a higher gear as well 😀
Not quite sure if that machine is supposed to handle great weight?
Now that's a pulling truck.
We use those to pull out stuck D8 bulldozers.
Sledge?
He could’ve pulled that sled to the next town down the highway, no problamo 😂
Can someone explain to me what is going on..
Dump truck pulling "sledge" at tractor pull" What's a "sledge"?
it's what the rest of the world calls a sled .. lol
I'm pretty sure that the weight on the sled thing moves forward as it gets pulled (i think there's some sort of gear mechanism that connects the rear wheels with a pulley thing idk). If they used a volvo they would of done it in half the time
You'd have to have something on the end of the sled that digs it into the ground deeper and deeper each foot to eventually stop the damn thing.
I thought those were called sleds?
Komstsu hm300: what sled?
I've seen them use Artics to pull scrapers that likely weigh 2-3 times what that sled weighs. He probably could have done it in a higher gear if he wanted to.
SLED Not SLEDGE!!
They're synonymous, yank.
Yes, heavy vehicles have more traction.
I think we need to step that truck up into a bigger weight class
If they ever come out with a "super-heavy" class of pulls I'll buy tickets and road trip halfway across the country to watch that.
Did it start yet? How many people were still awake after the phone shutoff.
Pretty sure he could have pulled that sled from a stop with the weight all the way forward.
It is not certain of course but it would possibly be a different story if the drawbar of the dump truck was at the regulation height for a standard pulling vehicle ???
Perfectly done
Plot twist: The driver's original vehicle broke down, so he stole this machine from a nearby construction site to use instead.
huh? this is not an example of a plot twist. Maybe if you produce video content and share that could be?
@@itsruf1 Plot twist: _I don't care_ |:^)
Did it even try?
Sled: I feel violated 😂
Why is this type of vehicle always painted yellow, is it just for visibility? Or is there another reason ?
0:52 Can someone just throw that pile of sand in my back, then I drive on!
Bone stock, too. Impressive
Guess so... That SOB is probably heavier than the sled. 💪💪💪💪
In torque we trust.
i think u mean sled?
Looks like he’s pulling a toy wagon
Any truck could pull that sled in low gear with a hitch that high up!! Put a legal height hitch on there and see how far it goes!
Now somebody has to use a Belaz 75710 in a sled pull lol
And in the snow, something we know little of down here.
Would anyone call that cheating?
Thought he was going to get on the highway with it.
Мне кажется, или он даже не почувствовал груз!?))))

I mean they’re made for moving heavy loads we shouldn’t event be surprised
I wasn't even surprised, but I had to watch it anyway.
Rock truck... hold my beer.....wait .....never mind...
Looked more like it was ploughing the fields
That is just some roadside food truck he's pulling.
Dump out-weighs the sled by at least a factor of 2.
В чем суть этих соревнованиях???
Is that not considered cheating if all you have to do is rent a big ass dump truck? Lol
It was at this point the entire audience quietly asked themselves, "Why the fuck am I here?"
Didn't even need to air down !
an expected yet unsurprising outcome.
Those trucks are made to do that kind of work need a better competition
Its a sled, not a sledge
