PATAGONIA 2023 EL MAITEN - NORTH TOWARDS NORQUINCO - 6 September 2023

The third day of our steam tour of Patagonia saw us arrive at El Maiten around lunchtime. We had travelled by road coach from Ingeniero Jacobacci, as the railway isn't open beyond Cerro Mesa.
We boarded our charter train immediately and commenced a photographic journey north towards Norquinco. Most of our time was spent off the train standing in the beautiful Rio Chubut valley wedged between the South American Andes to the west and a spectacularly rugged volcanic range to the east. This isn't a travelogue but rather a series of scenes that could be loosely described as, "A little train in a huge landscape."
As usual the Patagonian wind interrupts from time to time as does the sound of shutters clicking. But, if you can accept these intrusions and also the fact that this is not 'real steam', you should enjoy it! For the 21st century, this railway must rank highly as an 'experience' close to perfection.
