    I start mine in soil and i get huge green onion but my green onions dont bunch

    • @dr_obisgarden
      @dr_obisgarden  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The kind we have here are the bunching type. The don't grow as big as the non bunching types but they do proliferate quickly. You can look out for those types when next you go to the farmers market or store.

    The bulb onions we get here in Canada are not as prone to multiplying as subtropical and tropical onions are.
    I have some Allium × proliferum bulbils in an egg carton here, awaiting final replanting, and they appear to be trying to get up out of the carton! Have you ever encountered Allium × proliferum?

    • @dr_obisgarden
      @dr_obisgarden  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's true. But yours can get really huge. I guess it's a trade-off. 😃... I've never grown Allium x proliferum before. A colleague of mine recently got several lines from the Netherlands for research, I'll check if he has that and give it a try. Best of luck.

    I've grown it before but it didn't sprout other plants like yours. Just the one stalk grew thicker. What could I be doing wrong?

    • @dr_obisgarden
      @dr_obisgarden  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Actually there are some spring onion varieties that never bunch or tiller. These often grow very big with thick stems so I suspect that is the case with the one you grew. Some seed companies actually breed out bunching ability from their varieties so you have to keep buying seeds from them if you want to grow more spring onions.

    i use the cutting method and maybe im cutting too soon because i feel like they grow very tall about 4 weeks and then i cut but each time i cut they grow back thinner and i feel like after the third cut they don't grow as well. I also don't see any reproducing of new green onions. i do fertilize with banana water about 2wice a month. any tips?

    • @dr_obisgarden
      @dr_obisgarden  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think the soil is probably getting depleted that's why they grow thinner. Onions, love nitrogen fertilizer and banana water doesn't have a lot of nitrogen. Try adding compost, poultry manure or seaweed fertilizer.

    • @KBlue728
      @KBlue728 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      o wow ok i thought banana water would be nitrogen. i do have compost however i grow indoors so i try not to use my compost for indoor use. i do have rabbit poop. would that work? Thank you!@@dr_obisgarden
