Discovered this masterful work some years ago when in a deep dive into Albeniz & Granados & other Iberian composers. What a joyful discovery! It’s obvious when reading Halfftr’s bio that he was extremely gifted even with this youthful piece! Wish he had composed for himself as he matured decades later… instead doing fine work with De Falla’s “Atlantis” & other works. This Sinfonietta sparkles with stunning orchestral colors & vibrant rhythms, displaced accents & strong sense of form.We need to hear this much more often! A Joyous piece!

A work with noticeable spark, instrumentation, memorable themes and expert craftsmanship. One of the best Sinfoniettas ever written.
