Jordan is a phenomenal human overall! And she has been truly GOLDEN in Paris so far. I mean damn she showed up!! She qualified in 4th overall in the ENTIRE WORLD!! And gave the US huge scores on all 4 events for team finals where we snagged Gold, and now she will compete for bronze or silver in the floor final (if she hits!) Love love love her and the whole 🇺🇸 team!!
One thing I know for sure and that is she is consistently clutch about everything. She's got an amazing spirit. There is a light about her and the demons of the world were trying to blow that out before she discovered her gifts and talents. I'm so glad to be alive to witness these great moments to meet her from this side of the screen. I only hope that she taken care of the way she takes care of others.
I'm millennial/gen z cusp (1998) and I couldn't get past the first 17 seconds of the video. Figure out what you're going to say before you say it and have to use 'like' after every single word.
Jordan going to the Olympics TWICE- further evidence USAG is WAY better without the old regime in charge. There's not a snowball chance in hell Martha would have given Jordan a fair chance of being selected. She would have forced her to starve herself into a body type that would have made it impossible for Jordan to compete at, and risk her life. Women's gymnastics NEEDS strong, muscular WOMEN, not starved, malnourished, pre-pubescent waifs! Stronger, more muscular = more power to generate harder skills, less injuries, longer gymnast careers. Overall, better for gymnasts, and better for the sport. 💜
Absolutely agree about Marta, but some of the other stuff seems a bit off to me. Lots of female gymnasts are on the skinnier side and do well at an elite level. They don’t all need curves or big muscles because some are artistic gymnasts. Nastia and Shawn Johnson were perfect examples of that dichotomy. Also, it’s awesome to see full grown women kill it out there, but we shouldn’t discount teenagers just for their age. Some of the best Olympic athletes have been young teens.

Jordan is the best example of a woman who’s gained strength from past trauma. The joy she’s achieved is contagious. Her presence always seems to be such a big, positive contribution to other athletes, but also fans of our sport.
Oof, I'm really unhappy to hear these abusive practices still exist. I was a competitive gymnast (level 7) in the 80's, and for the most part, our coaches were great but there was always the pressure to be thin since it was an era when the Eastern block ruled our sport and those girls were really thin. Our gym produced an olympic gymnast, and after that, they hired new coaches who were way more focused on competition. One of them was awful. He would weigh us *twice* a day. He threatened to not spot me anymore if I gained weight, even though (of course) I weighed more at the beginning of a 4-hour workout than at the end. He would lecture us about diet, and would stand right in front of me, glaring at me. Never mind that I was already counting calories at 10-years-old. I was a head taller than many of the other girls, several of whom were overweight, but because I was built similarly to Jordan (strong thighs/glutes) I weighed a lot more than I look (still do). The girls used to say, "you have a black girls name and a black girls a**", which I took as a compliment even though it wasn't meant as one. And it broke me. By the time I was twelve, I was so depressed I had suicide letters written because my body wouldn't let me pursue the thing I loved more than anything (gymnastics). And I realized that you can't do difficult skills when you're that depressed because you don't have the energy to move let alone fly through the air. I was at a level where the skills were getting scary and it wasn't fun anymore, so I quit, right before turning 13-years-old. And over 30 years later, I still can't watch gymnastics without crying and I still struggle with eating disorders. So I feel for this incredible young women and am so happy you didn't quit like I did. You have so much more wisdom at your age than so many of us did in the 80's and 90's, and I wish you all the best in the world.
