I'm no expert but what I vaguely remember from watching experts is you tend to have a keyhole pattern as you first are "surprised" by the recoil, them get used to it and bring it under control. There's also the fact that it's a machine gun and you can adjust the spray as you see them land if continuously firing

For what it's worth. The American .50 BMG caliber that is used in the American M-2 machine gun is 12.7x99. Also used in various sniper rifles such as the Barrett M-84 sniper rifle. The 12.7x99 is also available in match grade ammunition suitable for large sniper rifles. The Russian 12.7x108 is not match grade.
