hard to choose with this unbelievable singer, but this may be my favorite by him. must share this little story with you. when I was in high school about the age of 15 I was making one of my occasional trips to the local record store. of course my friends were very much into Zeppelin, Stones, etc. I had been blessed to have varied music interest and my friends would have about fallen over as my parents almost did. when I returned home from the record store my Dad as usual had to see "what kind of garbage” did I get this time. to this day I can still see the look of shock on my parents faces when they pulled out a single album from my bag and saw "the greatest hits of Engelbert Humperdinck"! of course my dad thought it was a joke and I explained to him that a few days prior I had heard Release Me on the radio and I was amazed at how well this man could sing I never heard anyone sing like this before. I am now 62 years old and nothing has ever changed regarding the very high regard that I have that I have always had for this singer. but I will never forget or wipe from my mind even if I try, the look on my parents faces when they pulled that album out of the bag! my parents God bless them they are still alive and not very long ago I asked them if they've remembered that time. and they do. I just had to share this little story with you. thank you for listening to me.
Thank you for sharing your story. I also grew up listening to him and loving his music through the years. I was lucky to be able to attend two of his concerts in 2014 and 2016. He is absolutely the best singer of all time. Try to see him live if you can.

I have an Engelbert story, too. I was about 13 years old, and when all of my friends were crazy about Elvis and the Beatles, I was crazy about Engelbert. Well, I had gone to a record store with a friend and there was a poster of Engelbert behind the counter and I HAD to have that poster. Well, I went home and told my.parents about it and they said that if I kept my grades up, and paid for it with my own money I could have it. I think it cost about $20, and at the time I was babysitting for 50 cents an hour every weekend. I went bsck to the record store the next day and made a deal with the manager to pay 1 dollar a week on the poster until it was paid off. Finally I.paid it off and up on.my bedroom wall it went and stayed until I got married at 27. Well, I moved in wit my husband and put it in a place of honor, and then three years later we moved into a house where we lived for the next 30 years. Then we moved from PA to Virginia and my poster got lost in the move. Eventually I found it, in the middle of the pandemic. It is now in another place of honor waiting, hopefully to be signed by the man himself someday.
