I played this in 1987 when it 1st came out over here. I hated it... could not figure out what to do or where to go or when to go there. Even as a teenager, how many hours in a day did I have to bomb every wall, ceiling and floor in Upper Norfair while dodging enemies with limited abilities and weapons? I finally saw a vague map of a good chunk of the game in a strategy guide for several NES games of the time and it was the little nudge I needed to try again. I beat it finally in 1989. Super Metroid made Metroid my favorite Nintendo franchise and the Prime Trilogy cemented it by pulling me back into gaming in my 40's.
I know someone named Justin Bailey and when I was a kid I actually contemplated wether the code had anything to do with him. I was so confused by that!
This video is great. simple to watch and learn how to do it from someone who plays the game and knows the game like you. I just got the Nintendo Classic and wanted to beat all the beatable games from my past. Awkwardly Metroid i never beat on my own. Did it with a friend but he did most of the work when i was like 8-9, yeah im 37 now. This walkthrough simplified things and made tough stuff seem simple. One big mistake for those doing this make sure you have max missles and max health prior to last battle. I had to backtrack and replenish all my missles because i didnt have enough. ugh. thanks for the video, much appreciated.

one of the hardest games to ever come out. I spent hours and hours trying to finish it when it first came out. I got lucky in finishing it cause those mazes are ridiculously hard to remember. This is the type of game when you beat it once, there is absolutely no interest in wanting to do it a second time lol. Great job btw. You made it look easy
Well, I had this game since it was new, and I actually had maps for it, which were quite helpful, all things considered. Was quite fun. Though, if you wish to see a better run of this game, check out my FDS version of it. I actually get the better ending in that one.
This brings me back to when I was 6 years old playing this game. I was born in 1996 but all I really played back then was old games like this. I'm 22 now and I still love playing old games
What game can bring you back to video gaming when you are 41 years old this was one of it and the other is Zelda no wonder why Nintendo is still a great company thanks to such great games... I love you Nintendo for the good memories and the lovely time...

Funny you should mention those two games. I actually plan on hopefully doing three videos for the series really soon. Ghost 'n Goblins for the NES, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts for the SNES, and Ghouls 'n Ghosts for the Sega Master System. Though I think perhaps I'll do the NES, then SMS, and then the SNES game in that order. My next video will be something else (Almost got my strategy and whatnot down to a science), and I want to get that done first before I do anything else.
Well, I've had multiple scans now, and I'm pretty sure those don't lie too much. But according to the last one I had (just a few days back) things seem to be stable. So things aren't exactly improving, but they aren't getting worse either.
Make that 5 or 6...Forgot there were a few other versions...In that case, I'll do them, but at various times. But I'll bump 'em up on my list of games to do sooner rather than later.
I did as well, 7, 8 or 9 years old at the time. I died a few times so it was nice to at least have passwords. I was blown away with Super Metroid when it came out in 94' (I think) It is still 1 of my favorite games of all time & Metroid Prime 1 is amazing, 2 Echoes is great as well. Only Metroid games I never played was Prime 3: Corruption, Other M & Federation Force. I'm stoked for Prime 4 coming out 2019!!!
I made it to mother brain but always died. 30 years later I beat it for the first time but with on save state so I didnt have to spend 30 minutes killing the same enemy to fill everything up. I only died once so I know I can do it again without a save state. The save state was just before the door. I would've beat it the first time but took too much damage knocking down the regenerating doors. When you die you dont have to reshoot them... so a good strategy is to just knock the doors down... die and restart so you can tackle brain full on. That is, if you keep dieing anyway.

I've always said the Varia Suit is the best power-up. It's like taking two hits and lose the same amount of energy. Decreases damage from enemies by 50%
This game started a long crush on the metroid franchise for me. It is still my favorite franchise to this day. Super Metroid is my favorite. Thanks for the nostalgia!
Dude! Very cool! This brings back so many memories from my youth! I just got the new snes and I'm playing super metroid and It still lacks the dynamics and charm as the original metroid. If I can get my hands on the og nes version I would feel compelled to play it more than I do the snes version. Awesome game play, I will watch the whole video!

I grew up with the NES pretty much. While my first system was the Atari 2600, I think my first love of video games came with the NES. It was my childhood more or less. :P
i tried to play this game blind earlier, and damn i got hopelessly lost in norfair, everything looks the same in that area and i had no idea weather or not if i had been in a room or not before once i found out that it was the same few rooms used over and over, i tried to draw a map but i kept misjudging how long rooms were and my map kept overlapping

I beat it in like 2009 or something. Don't quite remember, but it's on my channel. I just know I couldn't be bothered with this as a kid, as I rathered the strait forward games- action games (just think they were a better concept for that period due to the limitations of the NES) like Castlevania, Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden.. But being the big Metroid fan I became after playing Super Metroid, I just knew I had to be able to say I at least beat this game once. Don't know if I will ever attempt it again, but I probably will. Also, condolences and I want to help keep this channel alive, as I've had the thought of my children wanting the same for me if I pass away. I haven't been feeling that well these days, (doesn't help that I'm a smoker either) got this terrible pain in the right side of my stomach. It lets up for a while, but then gets bad again and I know my kids would want to keep their memory of me alive through things like this if anything happens to me.
Please tell me you have been to the doctor about these symptoms. It could be something very serious if not taken care of soon enough. Spare your children the sadness and grief of losing you if possible. Jeremy's dad

Yeah I've wanted to get through this game for a long time since metroid prime is my favorite game, but a combination of being born in the early 90's where most of the games I grew up with had a map and I not having the time any more to explore the game to get through it, I kept putting it off. Games have gotten so much easier. I'll definitely have to check your other video out. When I was looking around for a guide I saw that there was a "better" ending for finishing under an hour. From what I could tell she was wearing a bikini instead of the one piece swimsuit.

There was lots of backtracking in this playthrough. The player should have went for the Varia suit early on using the bomb jump, instead of going half way through Norfair just to head back up to Brinstar to get the suit and go back down again.
This game is hard as fuck. Thanks for the walkthrough, because there is no way i would've ever beaten this crap. Thank goodness i can move onto the Prime series

I dont remember exactly but my friend and i were playing it without the map and i finally finished it after countless hours. Im not sure if we missed seeing the map when we opened up the cartridge but it was a nightmare to finish. This game, along with exodus for nintendo were my two hardest games to finish; which at the time, i was one of only 3 or 4 people to finish it (exodus). strictly Bragging rights ;-)
Heh. Nowadays you can't really brag about beating a game...They are a bit on the easy side. Back in the day the feeling of accomplishment of beating a game was so much better....
So I'm at the last run with Mother Brain (I followed this walkthrough) but I only have 70 missiles and can't seem to even get to Mother Brain. Is there anything I can do?
Used to use a TV tuner (or whatever it was called) for my videos before, but then when I got a new laptop, the thing wouldn't work right (it was rather crummy anyways) so I had to switch to emulators. Though I do use FRAPs for some videos like my DOS games.
I can't play this game anymore, after Metroid Zero Mission come out, when I want to play the first game, I play that one. Two things stop me from playing this game, no map and starting with 30 health, its a good game, but it's dated. Now Super Metroid is far from dated, plays great.
No I didn't. Those were the high jump boots. I get those a few minutes back, and then reach an area you need the boots to reach (unless you want to waste time bomb jumping). After getting a bunch of stuff, I return to where the boots were and move on.
yes because as kids we didnt have the internet. I played through and the game is way easier. as a kid I never saved the passwords because i'd always write them down wron mistake Oand0 I just took a snap shot of the password but I didnt have any issues with the game. it was just not as fun as I remember maybe because super metroid. still had enough fun and it was rewarding when I beat it.

I've been playing video games since the days of the Atari. In the condition I'm in now, it's pretty much all I really do....

Perhaps, but I didn't want to waste any time. Had I taken the time to collect missiles, I might have missed getting the best ending variation.

yes because as kids we didnt have the internet. I played through and the game is way easier. as a kid I never saved the passwords because i'd always write them down wron mistake Oand0
I just took a snap shot of the password but I didnt have any issues with the game. it was just not as fun as I remember maybe because super metroid. still had enough fun and it was rewarding when I beat it.
I did the first year it came out.
