The first thing you are going to do when receiving this helmet is put those useless helmet pads into a ziploc bag with the X harness and replace them with a better quality harness and pad system. Oregon aero or 4D tactical pads and an opscore H nape should do the trick 👌 eventually upgrading the NVG shroud should be considered as well.
Yeah, those pads SUCK. Especially when they get cold, they become hard as a rock.

Cody The Gulf War Airsofter the helmets are the same.The ECH helmet is the multi branch helmet that is replacing the ACH for the army and LWH for the marines.
Well not really the ach and ech have the same design they are made of different materials, also the ech can stop rifle rounds the ach cannot at least not without a glancing shot.
the galapagos yea your totally right . That completely slipped my mind when I wrote my comment. If I remember correctly Ceradyne stated a 30 ish percent improvement in frag protection as well as protection against specific rifle threats like 30 carbine.
the galapagos not quite. The ECH has come improved resistance and lighter weight but it certainly doesn’t stop direct rifle hits.

This helmet has thicker edges, so if you want mount something(helmet light, action cam...) else use CADEX ACH side rail and newer US ARMY PSQ-20 mount for ECH
With fielding of the ECH, Operation Helmet is receiving multiple requests at the individual and unit level for the helmet pads we buy and send free to troops OTW. Told ya'. Now over 83,000 kits sent out, none returned. These upgrade pads ($28 apiece) last an entire deployment, not the six months with the GI sacks of poop.
ECH is product of the Marine Corps and Army and suppose to be the first level 3 ballistic protection which it can take high caliber rifle rounds .30 carbine, 5.56 NATO, 7.62 Kalashnikov not sure about 308. Pads are also updated not sure if the pads are by Skydex or Gentex. By this time ECH will be used only by combat roles so the ACH and LWH will be still in use in noncombat roles do to ECH is to expensive to make do to the material that is being used to make it.

Wrong. Yea it’ll stop it, but you would still die. Back face deformation with pistol calibers average at 2 inches. Mommy has a face to look at in the coffin at least.
It takes rifle round but deformation will leave a baseball sized bash in your skull that will leave you being spoon fed by a nurse the rest of your life from the amount of shock and brain damage you’ll get from a massive skull fracture. Really it’s not much better in that aspect other than yea you survive. But your brain dead for the most part

Solipsil Interceptor vest has nothing to do with the PASGT other than it was issued with it. The Pasgt handled Weather better due to its helmet band, while as Mich style helmets fail due to the heat from the Pads in the desert, and the pads freezing up in the winter. As far as ballistic-wise goes, yes the Mich is more ideal, but only in SOME scenarios. As if the Mich pads become too soft, the force of a shot would still transfer to the skull. If the Mich pads become too hard, the force goes to the skull again.

Why did they leave an etched ruler off the measuring device?
I just don't like how the Skirt of the helmet is so high, its leaves more room for shrapnel to shred your head. I know that this has far more ballistic protection and is lighter but has less overall coverage of the head.
It just seems like a way to get the military to buy more ballistic napes and revision ballistic mandibles.

I purchased a size large helmet. I believe that it's an ACH since it has the Army ACH harness installed. I didn't like the ACH harness, so I purchased a USMC harness which I like better. I don't know if this harness was for an ECH or a LWH, but it doesn't fit the helmet that I have. It indicates that it will fit L& ExL., but it just isn't large enough...it doesn't fit. Any ideas on the reason? I also noticed that the screw posts on the helmet were too large to go through the grommets in the USMC harness...not such a big problem, just enlarged them with a center punch to fit. Numbers on it are; 97427/04011896-2 looked this up in the NSN registry...nothing. The 97472 brought something up, but not a single equipment piece.
Measure how thick the shell rim is. If it is half an inch thick, it is an ECH. If it is thinner than half an inch, it is an ACH.
Can this work for a mich/ach?
Sir. Can you tell me how to cleaning impact pads? Because I don't have a budget to replace them every 6 months.

I was issued a Gentex ECH, and I wish to know the date of manufacture. It gives me the contract #, the NSN, the P/N, the lot #, and tbe S/N. From which of these numbers can I date it?
Second part of the contract number is the year of contract

Duncan M. Thanks for your question. Nothing has changed; helmet bands are still unit-issued items. They have never been an issue item for the Helmet (SL-3). Units can order through supply for items. They are also available for individual purchase.

I preferred the old LWH and PASGT shell design, bigger ear covers, bigger brim, larger neck protector... This looks like the copy of a MICH.

Do these helmets actually stop anything other that the slowest debris from a blast? I have heard soldiers say they are only good for covering a bald head. 😂
They're rated for 9x19mm and fragmentation (and also blunt trauma) , but they can stop, and videos exist showing them stop glancing rifle rounds from a distance. So they're not useless at all. Most troops don't actually know much about the equipment they are issued, it's never really taught we're just told to wear the shit.
The ECH was designed to stop certain .30 caliber rifle rounds.
Seems to me one of the most impractical desighned helmets I have ever seen and probably one of the most expensive to produce. Hell, my Equastrian Troxel Helmet has a better desighn than this at $50. With that pad systom it rides too high on the head with no ear or neck protction.....looks like your wearing a mushrum with a cobweb netting for a retainer. Does the retainner clip have any breakage so you dont get your head riped off from artilery concusion?

Always liked the look of the old German Stål Helmet, covered the ears and neck. I´v seen the crome version, man they look Sharp. To bad the helmet got a bum wrap.
+mark warnberg It doesn't offer ear protection because its designed to be worn with ear protection and coms, namely Comtacs or Sordins. Thats the entire point why its synonymous term is the MICH 2000 or Modular Integrated Communications Helmet. Thats what the problem was with the old PASGT Helmets and K-pots, the way they were cut and rode so low on the ear that it was too bulky and didn't fit well with headsets and ear pro.

Neck protection are offered by separated neck-pads, and Gucci already mentioned why ear brim was removed, in fact, it was widely required by troops issued older PASGT.
Riding helmets are not meant to stop bullets but they will protect you from a horse kick with kleated shoes on or your head comming down hard on a Sharp objekt. I was talking about the desighn on a very expencive peice of Equipment.

Fun fact: bullet resistance is not only measured in penetration but also back face deformation. Level 3A would stop all pistol calibers. The ACH does stop penetrating, but would kill you via crushing your skull minimum of 2 inches, therefore NOT making it qualified for a level 3A certification. An army sergeant in Afghanistan a few years back was shot in the back of the head directly by a PKM machine gun from 20 feet away during an ambush while wearing an ECH. He lived. The helmet protected him perfectly. He wasn't even knocked unconscious, he was knocked to the ground but immediately got back up. The ECH is not level 3A, it is special threat rifle rated.
These ech take rifle round but deformation will leave you with a nasty skull cavity if taken
The helmet sucks, I can't mount my PSQ20B bracket or my helmet light because the edges are to thick. I will have to keep using my ACH. Just a nother waste of money for the DOD.
I think you got the priority confused, it should be the companies accommodate newer helmet design, not the vice versa. Insight should have designed a new bracket when they received spec on ECH three years ago.
Tons of accessories designed for PASGT didn't work on ACH either, did that make ACH suck?
TimCeallaigh it is a safer helmet but its a pain in the a** if you are about to deploy and you cant use the equipment you are use to because your platform is now different.
In the video they also said that the ECH is not a replacement for the ACH. So our unit will not order any accessories for the ECH.
You guys have it all wrong. Leather head strap, fiber liner, and no cover or attachments whatsoever. Gotta rock the low ear reaching late 1980's PASGT.
Wait, fuck that. Take an M1 steel helmet and liner instead. You're versatility just went up, and cost of production down. Who needs Kevlar or Polyethylene when you can shit and cook in your helmet.
Using the M1 as a cooking pot is not a bright idea it weakens the steel
