Thank u very much for making this comprehensive documentary about Travancore Royalty. I am an admirer, especially of Sree Padmanabhadasa Maharaja Chithira Thirunal, a brilliant ruler. I came to know a bit more about him from ur docu Miss Filmer.
You can see true royalty isn't in the clothes you wear or the money, but in the ethics, attitude and the knowledge. Very wise, which is I agree. You see, countries that put so much importance on money are corrupt and might look happy with all the things they have but their soul and mind is poor
The family deserves a lot of praise for not squandering away the riches and preserving it from imperial plunderers. However Prof. Nalappat's assertion that it was amassed irrespective of the public is either naive or mischievious.
Unlike other Royal House Holds in the whole of India, the Royal Family of Travancore is the most ideal of the lot. The past and present history of the family speaks for its self. I love the counter-question "WHO?!", when the interviewer forces a wrong a wrong question "Why was Nehru a great person". Nehru had contempt for Hindus. We all know Jawahar and Indira all handled the royal family in Kerala and Hindus across the board with contempt.

It looks as Sirdar Patel was the incarnation of Lord Dalhousie. As Sirdar Patel followed the similar path to what Dalhousie was doing at the time of Great Indian Mutiny1857 or first war of Independence. Patel did opposite to what the native states fought for in 1857. Indira Gandhi went a step ahead taking the marxist approach to destroy a great past and glorious heritage of the princely states of India.
You know nothing sir, sardar patel only persuaded his highness to join india, saradar patel could only request ultimate decision was with rulers.. travancore had an offer to join pakistan too on their own terms. Infact history has not done justice with these rulers in terms of their sacrifices ..Sardar patel had only persuasive force , his comparison with Dalhousie is ridiculous... Once new india was formed with firm footing , it was easy to capture hyderabad, but it would not have been possible if others too had taken same stand as hydrabad or kashmeer took... What mrs gandhi did was not befitting of a great nation..
Infact Royal traditions could have enhanced the cultural prosperity of India. Kings were regarded representative of Supreme Lord Vishnu. So, infact royal families should have been given due respect and importance by the government. If not powers, they should have been supported financially to lead their royal traditions, atleast for the sake of great cultural heritage India is known for. For those who disregard and disrespect royals or who are jealous of them should know that God has given them privilege to be born royal and nobody can snatch that from them. Those who believe in God must believe in Kings, and by Kings I mean only Hindu Kings not intruders and their legacy.
Many people are commenting about his simple and humble way of life. But the fact of the matter is that he is living in a modern world of equality, liberty etc. So he has to live like that. even british queen is so simple now. Had he got all the powers of an imperial kingdom, his behaviour and attitude would have been different. The biggest quality of human race is adaptation.
