Hymn of St. Kassiani: The woman had fallen into many sins, O Lord, yet when she perceived Your divinity, she joined the ranks of the Myrrhbearing Women. In tears she brought You myrrh before Your burial. She cried, “Woe is me! For I live in the night of licentiousness, shrouded in the dark and moonless love of sin. But accept the fountain of my tears, O You Who gathered the waters of the sea into clouds. Bow down Your ear to the sighing of my heart, O You Who bowed the heavens in Your ineffable condescension. Once Eve heard Your footstep in Paradise in the cool of the day, and in fear she ran and hid herself. But now I will tenderly embrace those pure feet, and wipe them with the hair of my head. Who can measure the multitude of my sins, or the depth of Your judgments, O Savior of my soul? Do not despise Your servant in Your immeasurable mercy.
I have listened to several settings of this piece , since I was looking for a special setting for our church choir. When I heard this, I stopped looking. Phenomenal!
The woman who had fallen into many sin, O Lord, yet when she perceived Thy divinity, she joined the ranks of the Myrrh-Bearers. In tears, she brought Thee myrrh before Thy burial. She cried "Woe! woe is me; I live in the heart of licentiousness, shrouded in the dark and moonless love of sin. But accept the fountain of my tears, Thou who doest gather the waters of the sea to clouds. Bow down Thine ear to the sighing of my heart, Thou who didst bow the heavens in Thine ineffable condescension. Once Eve heard Thy footsteps in Paradise, in the noon of the day, and in fear, she ran and hid herself. But now I will tenderly embrace those pure feet, and dry them with the hair of my head. Who can measure the multitude of my sins, or the depth of Thy judgments? O Savior! O Savior of my soul, despise not Thy servant. For Thine mercy, for Thine mercy is beyond measure."
I came here as a fan of Frank Turner a 21st century musician who has written a song pertaining to Cassiani and I was intrigued to learn more. Reach out to any OCA church near you. They’ll have it, they sing it every year on Either Wednesday or Thursday (depending on the church) for Holy Week. That’s tomorrow or the day after by the way if you want to see it in person :)
Beautifully, gorgeously performed. Are these the original harmonies from the 9th century? If they are, Cassia was *astonishingly* far ahead of her time!
You mean like The Noble Joseph, tone 2? In Bulgarian language all of the notes make sense. In English language you just need to have the breath control of an Olympic swimmer!!!
Look above for a reply to Jeff Reynolds post asking the same question. It's now a download. I just can't get over how wonderful the ladies sing this tune. It's just stunning. I'll be using it during Holy Week with our all women Compline choir called Voces Angelorum
@@jeffreynolds7894 I am confused... I clicked on the link above to find the sheet music, and the link only took me to another website with a CD for sale. Can you share a link with a pdf for the sheet music? (Even if we have to pay for it, I'd like the music.)

My favorite service of the entire year is this one because of this hymn. Brings me to tears every single time.

Oh! I feel called out! 😂😮
Okay, I’m not THAT bad, but I’m far from perfect…
I have listened to several settings of this piece , since I was looking for a special setting for our church choir. When I heard this, I stopped looking. Phenomenal!
Par excellence!! For me, it surpasses all other versions.
This brings peace to my heart.

This is absolutely beautifully done
Absolutely heavenly.
One of the best arrangements of this hymn. Reminds me of some of the beautiful sounds from Mediaeval Baebes.

@@g1incman Considering that this is about a New Testament event and in far more recent chant forms, no it was not written nearly that long ago.

Wonderful chanting. Is there music notation to this hymn? I would like to do it with our all-women Compline Choir, Voces angelorum, SSAT.

This arrangement of harmonies is by Archpriest Stephan Meholick of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in San Anselmo, CA.
Where can I find the music for this please? So very grateful for this post. Thank you. Glory to God for all beauty he has created.

Beautiful singing! Although this is the most English-sounding Bulgarian language I've ever heard. ;-)
Topsy Krett I think what is meant is that it's Bulgarian style chanting :)

We are working on this piece right now, but what I want to know is, is this on a CD? I've looked on St. Tikhon's site and I can't find it.
It's on the website for St. Nicholas in San Anselmo, CA. stnicholasmarin.org/good-and-faithful-servant/
Also on our St. Nicholas TH-cam channel:
