I really felt like that part of the story was exhausting, not bad, but theres just so much going on all at once and we keep jumping between the Uldah plot, the plot with Alphinaud's project and 2 other plots that will soon be introduced.
Thanks for another great video!🎉 I love that scene of the scions embarrassing Thancred. It is rare that we see him get flustered. And yeah, he was a bit of a scoundrel before he met Louisoix. Not that he totally reformed himself after. Just now he's a lovable scoundrel. The "skirmishes" between the Grand Companies in Cartenau is the original PVP arena, and the explation for why these allies are fighting eachother there for sport. The three nations essentially have agreed "What happens in Cartenau, stays in Cartenau." Meanwhile, Teledji's bill would essentially make it Ul'dahn policy to march the army in, take the entire area by force, and dare the other nations to try and stop them. The Sultana does not have any kind of Veto power over the syndicate. She just has one vote. So if Teledji gets the votes from the other members, it means war, or at minimum severely damaging the alliance. It's no shame being fooled by Teledji so far, he's been playing politics for a long time, and he is one sneaky potato. He's also a merchant, so he knows how to sell things, including hope. It is very rare in this story that anyone is ever just one thing. Most characters have layers, or hidden motivations. I'm not saying you can't trust anyone, I'm just saying that you only really learn who people are when you know where they are coming from. Like Merlwyb's speech about the Kobolds and Sahuagin, for example. She knows her people are part of the problem, but as Admiral she is ultimately responsible for her people's interests first and foremost, not the tribes'. It's a difficult position. Being at the top often means having all the power, but having few actual choices. And so we learn how she will react as a leader when under stress: 'My people first, my allies second, sea take the rest.' But at her core, personally, she is more compassionate than that and struggles with the cruel realities of her office. All the alliance leaders come across as just doing the best they can. There are a lot of politics and skullduggery in this gap between ARR and Heavensward. I hope you enjoy it, but don't feel bad if you don't. "It's darkest before the dawn" as it were, and things pick up. As always, thanks again, and looking forward to your next video.🫡
You're currently around the midpoint of patch 2.3 MSQ, which is followed by 2.4, 2.5 as well as the short 2.55 patch, which will lead into Heavensward. So, you're about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way through the ARR post-patch story... which means you have a bit of a long way to go. For comparison sake, what comes after the end of this patch is about the same relative length of the story between 'All Good Things' (the aftermath of Titan) and 'The Ultimate Weapon'. I will say that it can feel faster because the story starts to get more intriguing from here on; most of the setup is done for the Eorzean troubles, apart from a few more things to come, after which it's mostly watching dominos fall and riding a roller coaster to the end.
