The Whispers are one of the most underrated and underappreciated R&B groups in music history...and that's because they were grown when they hit the scene and they only catered to the grown and sexy folks. During their entire career, they didn't have a single pop hit because they didn't make one. It was all about the ladies with them. And I'm dead on the "speaking in tongues" comment lol. That's actually an old-school technique called scat whose origins can be traced all the way back to Africa.

I'm fortunate as a man to say that I was raised by a man and I was around men like them who knew how to talk to woman. The music from this period was so good, because the men knew how to talk to women. The tongues style is called scatting.

Takes me back to my high school days in late spring/summer 1980. The Whispers were so SMOOTH and COOL.
Thank you for doing this AMAZING song. My Godfather Nicholas Caldwell wrote this song. He was an AWESOME Songwriter and Choreographer. He wrote a lot of their songs and choreographed their dances. He is TRULY missed💔

One of the twins went to the military. Wen he came home, mother told the other twin, if he can’t be in the group, then there won’t be a group! One of the first groups to pay a member that wasn’t there for a min,becuz of personal reasons, the same as everyone else.

I saw them live when I was in college. They used to preform at Maverick's Flat in L.A., it was a small intimate club near the Crenshaw area. They were fabulous. I'm probably your grand parents age and sexy romantic music was our life.

That's called SCATTING
Ashley, the speaking in tongues as you called it has a name and a history. It's called "scat," made popular by Louis Armstrong, but with roots in West Africa. Many jazz artists of the 1940s and 50s used scat, and some younger artists in the 70s and 80s adopted it in their music.
