Re: the teddy coat. I just recently saw an older lady (ca 65 to 70) with a teddy coat, celine audrey sunglasses and doc martens. I was in total awe, she looked AMAZING. I think fashion rules shouldn't be taken so seriously/ they should be broken because then something looks interesting and exciting. Now I think a Madame coat would look amazing on a younger person, maybe with a band shirt and more alternative style and classic ballet flats maybe? I love such contrasts
This is such a helpful video! You really highlight the important factors to consider when spending so much money on a coat (will it work with handbags, jumpers, is it heavy, warm enough, will it last years). These are often things we overlook as we like the item so much, but after a few wears, these factors become important and can influence how much we wear the item! I would love to see more vlogs from you!
After almost a decade admiring and researching about these coats I had to do a video on them 😅 and it makes me really happy to see you found it helpful🙏🏼💕. Thank you so much for your lovely comment.
Love your content! I agree with you. I can't see myself wearing the Teddy when I'm 80, but I can totally wear the Madame till the end of my life! I have both but I also (secretly) love the Teddy more. It just makes me smile whenever I see & wear it! I live in California (where it is warm like 80% of the year), but I still have them both as they are both just such iconic pieces, so iconic that everyone else copies these fits!
I now have purchased both these coats and I am so surprised that I feel the same. I adore the teddy and am actually sad (for the first time in my life) that winter is over and I won't be wearing my teddy for so long. Thank you so much for your lovely comment! Sending 💕 to California!
Thank you for this video, interesting and balanced view. I think the question really is not if you CAN wear the coat in 20-30 years, but will you WANT to? My experience has been that we grow tired and bored of our clothes with the time. Our favorite designs last longer in our wardrobes, but I cannot imagine the person who is into fashion and who is willing to wear one piece regardless how nice/expensive/timeless for 20-30 years.
You are absolutely right. But it is good to know that something with this kind of price tag will look stylish in many years too. I love fashion and having only one coat for the rest of my life is very unrealistic 😅 (You know me well). 💕
I think it matters in terms of resale value, even if you won’t want to wear it, it’s nice to have the option to sell for a good price. If the style is out of fashion you won’t be able to do so.
Madame black coat looks sooo good on you, classic forever. As for the teddy coat medium size for sure, that brown color also suits you. But choosing between 2 the madame coat is winning. I wore mine -15C with cashmere sweater underneath and it’s warm enough. The style of sleeves is also allowing to wear thick knit or blazer without making you uncomfortable.
For that price tag, I would definitely go for the Madame coat. It's a classic and will continue to be so. It's also so versatile, you can wear it with jeans and sneakers or with a formal outfit and look flawless! I would love to have one in camel. I believe it will still be a go-to piece in 20+ years, and my daughters would possibly love to wear it as well later on - it's a potential future vintage piece :)
Lovely video, thank you for the care you put into it. I completely appreciate your comments about trends and trendiness or lack thereof. I too like the teddy coat a bit more (though to be honest I had a nice dupe and never reached for it). I must say I might not think of wearing the teddy coat when in 25 years, but I have friends who are 80 right now who could absolutely rock the teddy coat (depends on their style). About trying on at home, the advantages you describe are undoubtedly there. On the other hand the Max Mara shop near me is lovely (similar to the one in your video) and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall I like both coats and I think they serve different purposes. I also agree the M in the teddy coat is better being more oversized on you. xo
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching! The store near me is not so lovely and maybe this is also a reason why I would buy it online. But I am not going to buy it anyway, since I have splurged enough this year (for couple of years) 😅. 💕
They both are fabulous and serve different purposes. Having them both in a collection is of course ideal and a dream. 👌🏼💕 thank you so much watching 🙏🏼
I love both coats! I just got a teddy coat myself :) I did not spend too much on it as I am not sure it will be a staple in my closet or as you said it may be more of.a trend piece. I know some people don't like teddy coats but that is the beauty of fashion, not everything is for everyone. Love your style!
Maybe it’s just me but I don’t think buying a coat with the intention of wearing it 20 years from now will work out. I feel no matter how classic something is, newer iterations will be different. Shoulder pads, lapels, length, buttons date items. The teddy coat looks heavy and cumbersome. Is it something you can wear indoors, have on your chair in a cafe? If so, go for it! It’s definitely a fun piece.
I cannot agree more. However, when it comes to expensive luxury items, I would like to think that I can even hand them down to my children. The cut of the 101801 coat comes from the 80s and if I had one original handed down to me, I would certainly love and enjoy it too. The teddy coat is extremely light (I know it looks heavy). But you are right, it could be a fuss taking it to restaurants or cafes. Thank you so much for sharing your insights 🙏🏼💕.
Honestly, there are certain items that just timeless. Although not a luxury item, I have my brother’s Levi’s trucker jean jacket which is about 30 years old. It still gets worn. I don’t know about the Teddy coat, but the 101801 you could wear forever and pass down.
thank you for the great video! If i had to choose only one, I too would go for the Madame coat. it is such a classy and timeless piece. I already own a beige Madame coat and still considering getting the Teddy Coat in Khaki and the Madame in Navy 😅😍🤩
I think both coats are the best from Max Mara. I think the Teddy Bear is cuter and less formal. I have a question. The Teddy has one in Camel hair, and another with virgin wool and alpaca. Which is better? Is the one in Camel hair the original and more classic? It seems to be like 300 dollars more. Thank you!
Hi, I absolutely agree. these coats serve different purpose. In the meantime I have bought both coats. The Teddy and the Madame. I went with Teddy in camel because I love how worm it is and also generally love camel hair for many different reasons. The price difference could also be because of the material used inside. (satin, silk, etc). 💕

Happy New Year! Thanks for the great video - very helpful :). One question - in the 101801 (Madame) coat, you said you tried on the 36 and 38 - are those French or German/Austrian sizes?
Fantastic video 👏🏾 😍 and thank you for sharing your thoughts always so helpful. The teddy coat looks more fashion piece! It’s fun it’s cool! It’s a max mara signature piece. So iconic! Hi dear Hannah, I would suggest D38. I am 170 cm tall, not sure how much I weigh but normally 58-60 kg. I have narrow shoulders but size D chest so rather chesty (😅 sorry if this is too much information). I bought mine in size D38. Something I didn't mention in the video is that the Madame coat is padded on the shoulder, very slightly but it is padded. I really hope this was somewhat helpful! 💕Mahshid

I myself have the Manuela camel coat……which I find to be a bit formal than the two you mentioned here. Madame coat is next on my list to buy. Thank you very much for the video 👍 🌞 I also was recently in Max Mara boutique in Graben and tried Teddy coat in grey color, the sleeves of size S were too short, M sits well. I feel the teddy coat instantly dresses down an outfit, to look casual, whereas the Madame coat dresses an outfit up, to look smart. So, if you know your style, you would know which coat to choose.
You’re so adorable but honestly, I never understood the teddy coat. In real life it doesn’t look so great. It looks shabby and just don’t understand why it’s so popular.
Aww, thank you so much my dear! I guess that coat like the chunky shoe trend is very polarising but this is ok! This is the beauty of fashion like one of my lovely viewers once said 💕.
I agree. Even M was on the short side. In Teddy I went for L (I have a recent video on it). I prefer the Teddy longer and looser. Thank you so much for watching!💕.

I would get 38 since I'd like it loose and a bit oversized. But the perfect fit would be 36. I think, I'll also get it at some point next year. 10 years of admiring is enough, I guess 😅.
@@ThanksToFashion I want to get the camel color and I think the 38s you tried on looked like it drowned you a bit. I think maybe 38 in black is ok bc the color is naturally more slimming. Thanks for your reply ❤️
My mum is 67 and wears a teddy in dark navy and it works on her.
Thank you so much for letting me know. I guess it depends more on the style than the age. It makes me so happy to see women not giving up on fashion and not letting age defining their taste in style 💕💕💕. Please share my channel with your mom! I’d love to have her here🙏🏼.
I had the MADAME. Personally it was so oversized and just didn’t suit me. I ended up selling the coat. I have the teddy and I love it. Labbro as well
The good thing about these coats is, they sell easy on the second market. If I could I had them both 😅 💕.
I bought them brand new
I know but I meant you were able to sell your Madame coat, right! 💕
I feel the teddy coat instantly dresses down an outfit, to look casual, whereas the Madame coat dresses an outfit up, to look smart.
So, if you know your style, you would know which coat to choose.
Absolutely! I love them both but I would go with madame if I were to get one. But this year I have splurged enough 😅.💕
I thinking to buy a teddy coat and came across your video. You look beautiful in both coats. May i ask what is your height?
Thank you so much dear Ivana, I am 170 cm tall. Such a cool one, that teddy coat. Which colour are you going for?💕
You’re so adorable but honestly, I never understood the teddy coat.
@@ThanksToFashion so true but a lot of money to spend for a polarizing item ☺💕
Agree
Same opinion 🤗
Thank you so much for watching 💕🙏🏼
The Brown teddy coat 😍🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Such a beautiful piece, right! 💕🙏🏼
I think that life is too short and if you like the Teddy one more then you should go for it even if it’s not trendy anymore in 10 years. 😊
This is more and more my approach to be honest. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!!💕🙏🏼

Definitely M, the sleeve of S is too short
I agree. Even M was on the short side. In Teddy I went for L (I have a recent video on it). I prefer the Teddy longer and looser. Thank you so much for watching!💕.
