    Those little trauma kits are absolute genius. Definitely adding a couple of those to my large kit. You could even toss one to another first responder who has gone through all of their supplies.

    Great video. It's always smart to have a active shooter kit. I'm currently building 3. One for myself and members of my family. They can be very expensive to build but invaluable if ever needed. I'm just building mine slowly...one piece at a time. I got some great ideas here...Things I hadn't thought of. Thanks for the info.

    Awesome kit, I especially love the little micro kits to allow non wounded to help you out. SAP/aluminum splints may be a good addition and the karabiners could be stored on the external webbing to attach more gear allow or for more interior space.

    I would add atleast 1 BLAST bandage as well, as they are much more effective for abdominal injuries and limb amputations than the Israeli bandages. And lately i have seemed to favor the Olaes Bandages over the Israeli, and I like how they have dispensable packing gauze with them as well. I would also include 1 or 2 of the CELOX Applicators, as they are extremely effective for deep arterial bleeds that are hard to pack gauze deep enough into, and are relatively cheap (as far as badass trauma gear is concerned lol). Great kit buddy, i always keep a fully stocked EMS bag dedicated to heavy trauma in the trunk of my car, as well as a well stocked 1st aid kit. In civilian life, you will typically need quality medical supplies many times more than you would need body armour and an M4 in your trunk, although i keep those in there too lol

    My active shooter kit is a bit smaller, but includes the following:
    NAR EMT shears
    Flashlight
    Headlamp
    2 Sharpies
    Spare batteries
    12 pair exam gloves
    1 CAT Gen 7 TQ
    2 SWAT-T TQs
    2 3"x24" Quick Clot gauze packs.
    1 6" Israeli bandage
    3 4" T3 Israeli bandages
    3 NPAs
    6 4x4 gauze pads
    6 3x9 petroleum jelly dressings
    2 2-packs of hyfin chest seals
    3 compressed gauze packs.
    2 rolls 1" tape.
    7 Mylar blankets
    1 roll Kerlix
    I carry it in a Graycell Tactical rip away pouch MOLLEd to a Rebow Gear small shoulder sling backpack. The Rebow pack also has a compartment that will accommodate a service pistol and extra mags. The main compartment is mostly empty with this load.
    I plan to add more Quick clot, some webbing/carabiniers, and some knee pads, as I am not a SKINNY medic.

    Thanks for the Ideas. I checked the price on the Vanquest Falconer-27 --- almost $220. I got three good backpacks in an online deal @$49.00. My solution is to make a lot of heavy-duty ziplock bag "kits" with gloves, gauze, coban rolls, others w sutures, gauze, clotting gauze, dressings, I have different pouches/pockets organized for bleeding, airway, dressings, etc. I love those purpose-made packs that roll out & lie flat, with a dozen clear plastic pouches each w a place for a label, but most are priced at close to $200. *That buys a lot of CAT-7s.*

    This gives me a great ideah not just for active shooter situations but other situations too this would also work for a number of disaster senarios. Thanks for the idea's ever since boy scouts I've always thought about what i could do to help people in any situation, and done so a couple times already as you never know when a medical emergency will occur.

    • @OkamiJigoku13
      @OkamiJigoku13 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      also on topic in the boy scouts we were taught how to use our bsa style hanker chiefs as triangle bandages, tourniquets, a wrap, or as part of a splint, they're usually cheap and you can sanitize them throw a bunch in a bagie and have them as back up because you never know when you'll run out of the good stuff.

    • @SkinnyMedic
      @SkinnyMedic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +OkamiJigoku13 I would be using a lot of items as medical supplies.

    For my church I have build 10 comprehensive trauma kits with 5 kits in two separate large backpacks for an congregation of about 60 people. I already have 1 hypothermia foil blanket in each kit with a few extra. Do you think it would be beneficial to add 2 to 4 ready heat blankets to provide additional hypothermia protection. Patients requiring EVAC may be waiting 20 minutes plus depending on the EMS protocol for entering a warm casualty collection point.

    Great kit with very good ideas. NPA´s should be used by trained personnel, but oral airway could be used if needed. Main idea is to control blood flow. Bandages, bandages and more bandages....

    • @SkinnyMedic
      @SkinnyMedic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would rather see someone use a NPA over a OPA if they have little to no training. I do agree that they need some hands on using the airway adjuncts.

    Very nice however it would have been nice to see some combat casualty cards or triage cards. Once you get the patient wrapped up and on a stretcher the EMT's are going to need to know what happened with that particular patient. It might be a little hard to remember what happened to each person especially during a high stress situation.

I've wanted to take some courses to get me into the world of first aid (particularly an EMT course as I have basic first aid and CPR done) but most EMT courses need me to be registered with a fire department or something of the sort. Are there any courses you recommend to help should I face an emergency such as this?

      There's always the "first responder" course which is a step below EMT (doesn't cover transport basically) which is generally open to the public. Not exactly sure if this program is available in all states or not.

    I have heard that the M.A.R.C.H. algorithm also stands for: Massive Hemorrhaging, Airway (from the neck above), Respiration (Below the neck), Circulation, and Head/Hypothermia. Sir, have you hear of the differences posted with Airway and Respiration?

    • @careylymanjones
      @careylymanjones 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The A from M.A.R.C.H. refers to the basic question, "is the airway clear?". The R deals with "Are the lungs able to function properly?" Airway comes first, because a blocked airway renders lung function irrelevant. But once the airway is clear, any open chest wounds should be sealed ASAP (preferably with some sort of vented seal), to restore proper lung function.

      Short of an EMT course, Red Cross "Wilderness Emergency Response" course. Should be available at most local Red Cross Chapters. Local Fire Departments often teach C.E.R.T. -- *Community Emergency Response Team* Training Classes.

    Two points number 1 the tourniquet on the outside of your bag is terrible if it ain’t CAT or SOFTT it’s a waste of time and more importantly a risk to the patients life and number 2 black medical gloves are terrible because they don’t show blood when doing a body sweep especially at night or in any dim lit areas

      ryan dravinski that way some other wannabe rambo will mistake you for the shooter and shoot you... then the cops turn up and mistake that guy for a shooter and shoot him... meanwhile the real shooter carries on until everyone works out what the fucks going on... meanwhile you, who could have been administering life-saving first-aid until it's safe for paramedics to get on-scene are uselessly bleeding-out along with everyone else.
      Also... this kit is cheaper to assemble than even a used berreta.

    • @damianclark1763
      @damianclark1763 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Peterson exactly... And how many open/concealed carriers are prepared at all for a scenario... home defense is one thing but an active shooter scenario is a totally new ball game even combat-trained marksmen would find target-selection a huge challenge if there are others on scene with weapons drawn wondering which one could be the shooter.
      When you hear shots and everyone starts running and screaming and adrenaline takes over, you might take a shot at the first person you see who even looks like they have a weapon.

    Looking for good nitrile glove recommendations (not black I need to see the blood easy). Been through about half a dozen (amazon) glove suppliers and have been shocked by how bad they are. I can't for the life of me remember the brands we used to stock on my bus. I never cared because the county always supplied them. Thanks in advance EMT-I (studying for P)

    what is the head mean in MARCH

    • @careylymanjones
      @careylymanjones 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Head injuries. For a first responder, head wounds are usually either green (treatment can wait) or black (dead, or beyond a first responder's ability to help). After you've taken care of all the other injuries, if someone's scalp wound is still bleeding, you can take time to examine, and possibly bandage it.

    • @CoGhostRider

      Robert Claar it's great to have this even if you don't know any medical. At any time there are probably a dozen people with medical knowledge around you without any gear. As a first responder just about every wreck I e been on nurses were on scene assisting, so you could just give your gear for them to use. You never know you could be in a wreck and injured yourself
