This morning, I visited Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine, a truly fascinating and delightful place for a stroll. ⛩
Even as a Japanese person, I discovered new and surprising facts while exploring the shrine. The history of Shinto-Buddhist syncretism (Shinbutsu Shugo) and the rituals that continue to this day were particularly intriguing. The shrine's norito, or sacred chants, sounded remarkably similar to Buddhist sutras. In ancient times, Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples often coexisted as one (though today this site is recognized as a shrine).
The observatory offered stunning panoramic views of Kyoto city. From there, you can see where the Kamo, Uji, and Kizu rivers converge to form the Yodo River, which flows into Osaka.
💡Additionally, there's a monument dedicated to Thomas Edison, who chose bamboo from this area for the filament of his light bulb, praising its high quality🎋
Check out the walking video now to uncover the rich depths of Japanese culture!
