He was not far off the mark, all the women in my welsh family were kind and would help people but god help anyone who got on the wrong side of them , no you could not conqure mam. What a talented man Ryan Davies was left this earth far too soon.
I remember as a child in south London when Welsh telly was on the BBC (before it got its own channel) watching Ryan and Ronnie in Welsh and finding Ryan very funny, even though I couldn’t understand a word!
I was born in Yorkshire in a mining village and lots of people referred to their mothers as 'Mam' whereas Yorks folk from out of the area (and within) called their mothers 'Mum'. My grandparents were Welsh and settled in Yorkshire (moved for the mining) and obviously their sayings came with them and were picked up. I now live in Wales and feel such a connection to my ancestors and love to hear the accents and kids shouting 'Mam!'.
Just came across this wonderful post, thanks as I've not seen this before I loved him as mam in Our house years ago on TV. Yes, died far too young A great harp player with a beautiful voice, so talented

I was looking for songs by Ryan and Ronnie and came across this brilliant sketch. Ryan was a comic genius and left us far too soon.
Wonderful talent. No one compares to Ryan contemporarily. What an enormous loss to Wales when he died so cruelly young. And in Buffalo, New York?!
A true great, I rarely saw him speaking English.
A brilliant poem, spot on when dealing with your Mam. A very talented guy
