This is a literally view from the past. The closest thing we have to a time travel machine. 1993 was a beautiful time. More beautiful than those 2022 times.
What memories!!! We were on the Norway and it was a completely different type of cruising than the new ships. Nothing was quite like her and never will be again!
I spent three years of my life on the Norway, over different contracts, working in the casino. So many wonderful memories. Oddly the one that sticks out most is me in the crew bar (yes we had our own bar on the end of Norway Deck) I was playing pinball in about 1997 and the door behind me opens and a totally naked man walks past me and goes into the ladies toilet. So I keep playing. Obviously a line of female crew members starts to form outside the door to the ladies but this guy isnt letting them in. So it dawns on me this is a passenger, so I go to my own cabin and get him a pair of my own tee shirts and shorts so he can go back to his cabin. As it turns out he was asleep in his own cabin and got up to pee but walked out of the main door instead of going into the bathroom. I asked him to leave the clothes at the reception desk for me but he didnt, the bastard. Ah well...
I was cruise staff on the Norway from January 1997 to March 1997. Interestingly enough, my Cruise Director (Denny Andersen) is on this video. You can see him for about 30 seconds as he introduces the Captain at what looks like the Captain's Cocktail Party. The Norway was hard work for cruise staff. Very little free time. I was single then, so the one benefit I had was meeting lots of pretty women. It was one of the few perks of the job! I did have other contracts that were easier. Right afterward the Norway, I went to the Dreamward (later renamed the Norweigen Dream, I believe). The Dreamward was far easier on the hours as we spent 3 days of each week tied up to the pier in Bermuda (the run was from NYC to Bermuda on a 7 day cruise). I am very happy that I took some years out of my life to work on cruise ships. I have great memories and I am glad that I did not spend my entire life working an 'office job.' I did return to the technology profession working in an office, but I was always able to see the work in another light. I am glad I viewed this video!
You had no idea when you were video taping this, you'd have a real gem. Now even more of these ships are gone. Three that you have here from Carnival are now gone, plus the NCL with those gorgeous clipper bows. Sad. I really enjoyed your video. Nice music.
When I was a young boy, my family crossed the Atlantic on the S.S. United States. When we disembarked at Le Havre, the France was docked right next to us. Sorry I never got to sail on her in either of her incarnations.
Sometimes regret not having shot video of our first cruise the following year on this ship but the VHS gear was so bulky. Thanks for posting. Well done!
On my 1983 cruise I had the giant shoulder camera, the VHS player on a shoulder strap and a battery pack around my waist. If I would have fallen in the water, I would have went straight to the bottom of the ocean.
We sailed on her a few months ahead of you, just two days before Hurricane Andrew came in. We were on a travel agents fam trip that NCL was giving. O had always wanted to sail on the NORWAY and it was our first cruise. It was sad what happened because of the hurricane, some of the passengers and travel agents flew back to Miami, their homes were affected by the storm. We got to sail the NORWAY two more times, '94, '02. We almost got to do a fourth cruise, but sadly the explosion that took the lives of valuable crew members and the ship prevented the it. She was really special.
My very first cruise was on Norway the following March of that year. We got back to the aftermath of the storm of the century at the end of the cruise. It was a mess! But I have the fondest memories of the ship and the cruise.
At 76,049 tons when she reached her final size in 1990, the SS Norway was the largest passenger ship in the world at this point in time, reclaiming the title from MS Sovereign of the Seas. She held the title of world’s largest ship until the Sun Princess was completed in 1995.
They don't make them like they used to. I JUST missed her. I believe I was in 6th grade when the boiler exploded in 2003. I wish she made occasional visits to Los Angeles.

I sailed on the SS Norway out of Miami to the Virgin Islands in 1996 and it was an AWESOME Cruise!!❤️🌞🌴🌴🌴
I've been on many cruises but I will always regret not sailing on the Norway when I had the chance. She was a beauty!

I cruised on the Norway through every upgrade. I miss that beautiful ship.
Got on the Norway back in 2001. It was our honey moon. Great memories. Great shots

Looked fun! Wow, Smalltown Boy! Played that back in my DJ days.
great memories. I worked onboard during that cruise.
I sailed the Norway in I think 1992. Thanks for the trip down Memory lane!
What a great video. Thanks so much

one thing all the ships in this video have in common? they all sadly have been scrapped.
That’s the Sovereign OTS, right? I thunk the Majesty is still around but no longer with Royal Caribbean.

My Cousin was working on the Costa Cruise in the video and I went to work on the Norway on 1994
2:24 gives a whole new meaning to "Moon Over Miami"…
Yea, they should have stepped back about two feet.

The France/Norway was one of the most beautiful liners of all time until they added those upper decks and totally ruined her beauty. 🤮
