Hello John, your channel is awesome. Just wanted everyone to know I received your last giveaway. FANTASTIC STAMPS and the book was excellent reading. Even the grandkids were reading it. They loved the stamps and picked some out for their collection. Thanks for your generosity, Steve KING
Hi John, another great video,, thank you. Interesting about the counterfeit stamp. Still it will make another stamp for your collection. Looking at your Germany stamps took me back to my schooldays (many years ago) collecting stamps. I had a lot of the stamps in your collection which i recognized prior to specialising in G.B. All the best to you and keep up the good work. God save the KING.
Hi John - KING You are really a generous and wonderful person. Thank you! Interesting to see about that counterfeit stamp. One always hears those are around, but it seems so unthinking that people do such things. The German stamps are so exact and neat, like I perceive Germans to be. 🙂
Thanks Charnie, I just can't help myself with giveaways! I've kept the counterfeit stamp and added it to my Machin collection as an example of a forgery.
Such a fantastic video John. It was great to all be together at the roundtable events, I agree that it was one of the best features of virtual Stampex. Those German stamp really pop on those pages, they look amazing.
King. Love your videos John. I see what is happening to you has already happened to me. I was going to have a very narrowly defined collection but it seems I always find something new to add. I also collect Machins and Germany but my main collections are Norway and iceland as well as Bermuda, Jamaica, and Australia. Enjoy your week off from work.
The Natal stamps are only a page or so in my South African collection. I did a video back in December showing the SA stamps, I've just added a few higher value King Edward stamps since then.
Hi John interesting commentary on counterfeit postage stamps. I read last month that a Tory MP was moaning he got caught after accidentally buying a booklet from Amazon. Apparently he wants action taken😀. What’s the matter with buying them out of er……… a Post Office. If you look at the online books clearly cheaper than from reputable seller - i.e. said Post Office. Bet it’s messed with the profits on his expenses 😀 German stamp colours are great and variety really stand out on your stock pages. KING
Another wonderful video John. The Conversations with Philatelists guys did a video about the avalanche of counterfeit stamps plaguing the US postal service. It sounds like *any* offers of discount stamps online are likely to be counterfeit stamps from China. I was fascinated to see how the Royal Mail are dealing with the problem: by passing the cost on to the recipient rather than returning to sender. Essentially a 21st century version of the Postage Due labels. KING!
Thanks Paul, I had wondered what had happened to the Postage Due process. I saw this as an opportunity to highlight the counterfeit. To be fair, I contacted the ebay seller and he refunded me the postage costs.
TH-cam might be too much for me eventhough I agree with the benefits of socialising with this hobby. I have recently opened an instagram account behindthephilately picking a stamp and exploring the backstory…
I work on my collection with you talking in the background…no offense, haha. Very therapeutic, especially when working through long pages of crests and shields! Keep up the great work. KING.
Excellent video John! I agree with you about stampex and wish it was more interactive. I got up at 4am to watch the corination and enjoyed it very much. Here in the US we have the same problem with fake US stamps from China being sold on Ebay, I hope Ebay will find a way to put a stop to this. Have a great day and thanks for all you do for the hobby.
Hi KING John lol - Like you I thought the Coronation was amazing and as for the pomp and ceremony, I also believe no one does it like the U.K. Happy to buy a coffee, but could you explain how to do it please as I have never done so or seen it before, (stamps of Hong Kong of great interest to me) Great content again and great to see your subscribers nearly reaching 1000 which is amazing
Hi John - KING You might be interested in knowing that Canada Post released the design for the first King Charles III definitive stamps on May 6th as part of the events surrounding the Coronation. I don’t know if they are on sale yet - I’ll find out in the morning - but from the images I’ve seen the look very good: a black and white full face photo of the King on a black background. No new circulating coins yet with the King’s portrait but there are some gold and silver bullion coins featuring the current Canadian portrait of Queen Elizabeth and the cypher of King Charles III. And they’ve also announced that King Charles will replace his mother on the $20 bill sometime in the future.
Years ago in the Netherlands in the Euro time, before stamps with the old money value ware made invalid, someone sold stickers with different old stamps on it so that you didn't have to calculate the total value from Guilder to Euro. It was useful if you had to send many packages. Only, the stickers did contain a counterfeit stamp among the real stamps.
As a friend pointed out also on the left hand side of the stamp there is a security number for that batch of stamps print run. the fakes do not have the security number. Knowing the collecting activity of GB stamps was wondering if people were collecting the stamps for the different security numbers?
Personally, I felt that Virtual Stampex was a dud. I applaud them for trying something different but it just didn't work. In particular, the themes of discussions and presentations were often poor, and the facilitators also. But definitely not for me.
" I didn't know they were counterfeit." Yeah right, how can you be a stamp collector/dealer and not know that stamps bought from China are counterfeit? I'm guessing that enough of them made it through without being caught to make it profitable even when he has to refund those that did.
KING thanks for the opportunity 👍👍👍

the security overprint is a bit different from the real
Yes, upon inspection under magnification, it doesn't look right, and does not overprint the image of the Queen.
The ones I have seen are low and wavy where the real have a humped up look
I managed to get a 5 lb bag of machins from the 90's up to the barcodes and going to have fun sorting and looking for varieties
the security print has to go all the way across I was shown one like you have.
Personally, I felt that Virtual Stampex was a dud. I applaud them for trying something different but it just didn't work. In particular, the themes of discussions and presentations were often poor, and the facilitators also. But definitely not for me.
What saved it for me was the roundtable talks, was really fun and engaging. At least I know what to expect next time.
" I didn't know they were counterfeit." Yeah right, how can you be a stamp collector/dealer and not know that stamps bought from China are counterfeit? I'm guessing that enough of them made it through without being caught to make it profitable even when he has to refund those that did.
I was prepared to give the seller the benefit of the doubt. If I bought from them again and had the same experience, I'd report them to ebay.
