    What a great collection! You've inspired me to start my own Machin stamp collecting journey 😊

    Lovely video John. there are so many Machins to collect - "One phosphor band, two phosphur bands, centre phosphur band, phosphur all over", I've tried collecting them but have given up after the mid-1970s issues. They must be a real labour of love. I like your castles, decimal, predecimal, and those one-off high value stamps and mini-sheets. You have a lovely collection. Nearly 800 subs, I bet you'll hit 1000 subs by this time next month. Great stuff!

      Thanks Michael, My Machin collection has taken around 12 years to get to this stage, every now and then I'll have a binge and accrue some more that I'm missing. It is a labour of love, but I love seeing the pagesbecoming completed, so satisfying.Thanks for your support and for commenting.

    Great video John and as always really informative. Given your previous videos on Wildings and Machins I have started my own collection. I have some way to go to be anywhere near your superb collection.

      Thanks Grant, and again, thanks for sending the IOM Albums, a fantastic collection. The Machins are a rabbit hole, but I love the diversity and breadth of them, especially the regional country variants.

    A wonderful video as always. I really like the year of the 3 kings stamps.

      Thanks Smokey. Even though the Royal Mail produces far too many commemorative stamps (in my opinion), they do produce some fantastic miniature sheets for landmark historical anniversaries.

    Wow - this was quite informative; I had only a small idea of how many variations of these different stamps there were. Looking forward to organizing my own UK stamps! On the self-adhesive Machins, I've been using isropropyl alcholol to soften the gum and corn starch to eliminate the stickyness.

    Thank you John for more great content, and thank you for re-igniting my interest in collecting GB stamps. My stock books unashamedly copy yours (in design only, not content yet 🙂). I have binged watched all your content over the past two weeks and enjoyed every one. Thanks again.

    The machins are really interesting. I wonder if there is another definitive series design in the world that stayed in essence the same for such a long period! The high value castles are beautiful. Thanks for the interesting video as always, John!

    Question: Which catalogue do you use/advice for the machins?

    • @johncollectsstamps
      @johncollectsstamps  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Day to day I generally use the Stanley Gibbons "Collect British Stamps" catalogue, it has a great section on the Machins and Regional stamps towards the rear of the book.

    The windows on the later castles are different too, almost looks like they ever so slightly changed the photo reference point and made a new perspective, more noticable looking at the left hand side tower on the £5
    Incase somebody out there hadn't noticed yet ✌️

    Can you please explain to me what do the numbers mean on back of stamps I have asked this question quite a few times and I get replies saying what numbers when holding the stamp at an angle these numbers appear that seem very faded what do they mean
