7029 Clun Castle at Cockwood Harbour On The Great Western Railtour - Friday 10th May

Friday 10th May saw Vintage Trains take 7029 Clun Castle to Plymouth from Birmingham Snow Hill on the ‘Great Western Railway’ Railtour. It had been the first time a Castle had gone down the seawall for a number of years and even longer for 7029.
Having been at work during the day and unable to get the day off, I originally thought I’d missed this trip. But with the rather later than expected path from Bristol to Plymouth. This allowed me to head down South for a shot of the Castle on a rare evening path down the seawall going south for anything steam related. This had to be done, especially with the perfect forecast.
The original thought was of course the seawall. But with half of it in shadow and breeze from the East, this put me off as I didn’t want to get Clagged out. I then thought of Cockwood Harbour and turned to a shot I tried with the drone a year ago with a HST. The end result was worth the trip, with the Sun out, the Castle working well, exhaust which we were surprised to get in humid conditions also holding up over the train. It produced the near perfect shot. A shot I’ve always wanted to get, ticked off the list from 2 different heights. Plus the added bonus being with the right loco at the right location.
I’m unable to see the return trip on the Saturday, but after getting this on the Friday, I’m not complaining.
