Facebook’s Covid Support Video brought me here. What an emotional piece... really made me reflect. They say when you become a veteran you’re forgotten about in a way. Well this time in our history is calling on me to help in any way I can. I will continue to serve those in need til the day I die.
You aren’t forgotten in the hearts of many people. Moments like these allow people the time to stop and reflect in gratitude for the sacrifices of others. ❤️
I pulled over to side of the road today and wept as these apropos lyrics and tone washed over me! I'm not sick, my pay is secure, my Family, Friends are safe and sacred. But I wept for those whose future is on #ShakeyGround AT THIS MOMENT..in my Community, my City, my State, my Country and throughout OUR Universe! I am BLESSED and I never take one single blessing for granted! To complain is mockery of those who are suffering in sickness and despair; in hope-less-ness and home-less-ness; in unimaginable FEAR of what #FreshHell tomorrow will bring! No one is #IMMUNE..but We Will #MakeItTogether!
I can't believe the world's suffering. It's not just Syrian and Yemenis refugees. It's now Paris, London and NYC. Kate Tempest is warning us of the coming storm. Wind, rain, darkness and death. Their hardships are now our own. This virus must unite us.
AirForceSacVet, I know, when I first heard Kate sing this poem rap, I couldn't hold in my emotions either. This song touches what we are feeling and how our Country is fading away into another movement and another realm of uncertainty. This song is an awakening, telling us to hold tight to our creator, love one another. God Bless you, and God Bless America. Pray the Lord will heal our land.
Gareth Turner it’s right there! Right in that back of my throat.. but I won’t let it go... my eyes feel like they wanna explode.. but I just won’t let it go!
[Verse 1] It’s coming to pass, my countries coming apart The whole thing’s becoming such a bumbling farce Was that a pivotal historical moment we just went stumbling past? Well, here we are, dancing in the rumbling dark So come a little closer, give me something to grasp Give me your beautiful, crumbling heart Another disaster, catharsis Another half-discarded mirage Another mask slips I face off with the physical My head’s ringing from the love of the stars There is too much pretense here Too much depends on the fragile wages And extortionate rents here We’re working every dread day that is given us Feeling like the person people meet really isn’t us Like we’re gonna buckle underneath the trouble Like any minute now, the struggle’s going to finish us And then we smile at all our friends [Refrain] It’s hard, we got our heads down and our hackles up Our backs against the wall, I can feel you aching None of this was written in stone There is nothing we’re forbidden to know And I can feel things changing Even when I’m weak and I’m breaking I’ll stand weeping at the train station ‘Cause I can see your faces There is so much peace to be found in people’s faces [Verse 2] I saw it roaring I felt it clawing at my clothes like a grieving friend It said there are no new beginnings Until everybody sees that the old ways need to end But it’s hard to accept that we’re all one and the same flesh Given the rampant divisions between oppressor and oppressed But we are, though More empathy, less greed, more respect All I’ve got to say has already been said I mean, you heard it from yourself When you were lying in your bed and couldn’t sleep Thinking, "Couldn’t we be doing this differently?" I’m listening to every little whisper in the distance singing hymns And I can, I can feel things changing [Refrain] But it’s so hard, we got our heads down and our hackles up Our backs against the wall, I can feel your heart racing None of this was written in stone The currents fast, but the river moves slow And I can feel things changing Even when I’m weak and I’m breakin' I stand weeping at the train station ‘Cause I can see your faces There is so much peace to be found in people’s faces [Verse 3] It’s not enough To imagine we’ll be happy when we’ve got enough stuff All this stuff is blocking us I’m neat with no chaser I’m all spirit, but I’m sinking 'Cause the days are not days but strange symptoms And this age is our age But our age is rage sinking to beige And yes, our children are brave But their mission is vague Now I don’t have the answers But there are still things to say I stare out at my city on another difficult day And I scream inwardly, "When will this change?" I’m beginning to fade But my sanity’s saved ‘cause I can see your faces My sanity’s saved ‘cause I can see your faces [Refrain] It’s hard, we got our heads down and our hackles up Our backs against the wall, I can feel your heart racing None of this was written in stone The current’s fast but the river moves slow And I can feel things changing Even when I’m weak and I’m breaking I stand weeping at the train station ‘Cause I can see your faces I love people’s faces
I´m listening to this the seventh time in a row, bursting into tears and weeping, overwhelmed by the fountain of feelings flowing out of my heart...this goes so deep...thank you, Kate, for this masterpiece, for this medicine i really needed...
The first meaningful thing l have done in 2024 is to head to my local Waterstones branch in Colchester and purchase 'Let them eat chaos' and 'Hold your own'.....by this genius! Thank you Kae.
Jesus christ almighty. Have been listening to this all day.! Brought me to tears the first time i heard it and the next and the next.......... Couldn't stop listening to it all day. Wonderful. Love the wordplay, the voice, the delivery, the poetry. All delivered in a gentle manner. Some cracking lines.! Absolutely beautiful. Looking forward to hearing more from her latest album. Well done, Kate. Truly beautiful.......... x
I've been listening to Kate Tempest for some time now. What an incredible talent! I love this song, so many of her songs move me. I saw the covid video on Facebook and I'm hoping that it brings her some much deserved attention. The piece itself was very touching and timely...add this song's lyrics, which communicate so much, and it's beautiful! I hope you are all well. Be good to yourselves and to one another. ☮️
I think this is how a lot of us are feeling right now. I first saw this on Instagram and I just started to cry, your voice, your words, the music is just amazing. What we wouldn't give just to be able to go out and see other "People's Faces." Thank You so much for this beautiful poem!!!
I had the pleasure of hearing this live just a few days ago before the album was even out and I was moved to tears as I heard her singing "Because I can see your faces / I love people's faces" while staring out at us, the crowd, her arms stretched as if she was giving us a collective hug and the last notes of the piano played out. I just remember being overcome with this overwhelming feeling of hope, knowing everything will be alright, knowing that there's so much love in this world. I just looked at the people around me and did what Kate is asking us to do with this song and all of her songs: look, really look at the people around you, see their faces, read their eyes and realise that everyone is an individual, everyone is someone with a story and, as she begs us at the end of "Tunnel Vision", please wake up and love more.
Pedro Pacheco I heard this the other week for the first time, when Kate did a live session on Jo Wiley’s show on R2. I was in my car, and had listened to the interview and the first song, which is the song on the new album that she’s releasing as a single, while I was driving home. This started as soon as I pulled up to my house, and it made me weep, and I sat there unable to move or get out of my car, and cried all the way to the end of the song. It is so so haunting and moving. I can’t imagine how much more moving it must be live. This woman is a genius poet, and if there was any sense and justice in this world, she would be our Poet Laureate.
I wish I was there too to hear it alive oh my goodness I heard this song the other day ob npr radio station and then finally I looked up and hear the whole thing
This song is meant to be sang in every language…in every country. I can’t say that the emotion can be translated everywhere…maybe not…but man…this is for sure the most powerful thing I’ve ever heard. Much love to everyone
I have never heard anything like this. This is as far as it gets from my normal taste in music, yet it gives me Goosebumps everyone I listen to it! Just beautiful. Mad respect!
As an aspiring poet, and an aspiring human I can honestly say this is 5 minutes of pure genius. Makes me tearful every time. Beautiful, because it breaks my heart and fixes it as well.❤
Man, I heard this song on the bloody Facebook ad, the song made me stop and listen, then at the end I saw it was Facebook I was like oh god, haha but the song resonated with me and I had to find out who made it, and bloody hell im so happy I did, what a tube! That piano, those lyrics!
So powerful reminds us no matter where you are, or the accent falling from your lips, it's the heart, the raw intensity and depth of honesty that reveals this powerful poets vision. 🙏🌈🪶💕❤️💕🌿🕊️🫶
I listened with no expectations and I can't stop the tears from dripping from my eyes. Im gonna put these lyrics on my wall. I love you like people love their prophets.

I just adore this. I don't think I have ever listened to it without a renewed passion for change, an increased appreciation for my neighbours and strangers. There is something of the divine resonating here and I just love it. Thank you.
God Bless you Kae Tempest, you have inspired me to not give up on my poetry! You sing what we all feel in every one of your songs, I can not praise you enough.
This took me to a level of emotion I had never felt and didn’t know I had. How is that possible at my age (42). It’s like my heart is weeping. Kae Tempest is magnificent.
I chanced upon this track while on the busy London tube, after a hard day's work... and it made my cry in front of everyone. And it still does every single time. Thanks Kae!
This is so relevant now and she saw it coming before it all happened. She didn’t know what was going to happen, but she watches and she breathes in the human condition. She listens where most can’t find the words to say it all. She is the every day person’s storyteller. She is above us looking out for us whether we know it or not, she is there caring about all of us.
Kate, I grew up listening to rock and roll. Led Zep or my fave, early Grand Funk Railroad. Motörhead. AC/DC. I just heard your art on an NPR show just ten minutes ago. I cannot stop listening to you. 🙌
Just now found out about your transition and felt the need to show support. You've been unknowingly a huge part of my life and your empathy and thoughtfulness has resounded greatly with me. I have no idea how hard it must be to always feel in the wrong body and to be honest, the inability to feel this struggle made it hard for me to identify with the problem and to have more than basic sympathy. The huge respect and awe I have for you as a person and the things you created made me realize, that this is not just some side issue a vague minority has to deal with, but something even the greatest minds of our generation have to fight with. Your openness allowed me to broaden my view and to not see this as some mental health issue, or the way some even portray it as a deficit. Thanks for letting us be part of your very personal decision, which nobody should really be concerned about either way. But your courage to go out there actually makes a difference, even if it just tears down a few more reservations for people like me; it paves the way for others to follow on a hopefully slightly less steep path. You'll always have our love and support, take care!
I left my home at the beginning of all of this madness. Now stuck on the other side of the world unable to go home for how long I do not know? This song brings me to tears. If you are lucky enough to be in your home with the people you love and you can see their faces, appreciate it and tell them how much you love them.
The FB commercial took me here and I have never been more thankful to see a commercial in my entire life. Because it helped me to find your gift. This is one of a select few times in my life that art has had this profound an effect on my soul, mind and heart. Thank you for doing what you do and sharing your spirit with us all. You are truly powerful with your words and it is so inspiring to hear (and see live). Thank you for this hope and please never stop gifting the world with your power. You are a unique voice of a unique generation living through a unique time. The people thank you. Every face

I agree! I almost cried! This song has touched the world!
Evergreen comment 😥
I agree. I ordered an egg mcmuffin, but they put sausage on it instead of canadian bacon. It was actually pretty good, but not what i ordered.
Love wins in the end brother. In god we trust. No new world order can defeat god x
Throughout my 33 years of life only two artists have ever made me cry. Ludovico Einaudi, and Johnny Cash.
Now there are three.
The same for me + Sinéad o'conner
Don't know one of them but she's in good company with Johnny cash
Ludovico Einaudi is amazing...
Exactly the same man

what a beautiful song, and it seems more relevant today than ever.
My thought exactly!!!
Incredible to think this was written way before our current situation. So poignant
God bless to all of you and stay safe❤️
It was even used in a recent "stay strong" style commercial
It’s almost August 2020. This song is more relevant than EVER !!!
[Verse 1]
It’s coming to pass, my countries coming apart
The whole thing’s becoming such a bumbling farce
Was that a pivotal historical moment we just went stumbling past?
Well, here we are, dancing in the rumbling dark
So come a little closer, give me something to grasp
Give me your beautiful, crumbling heart
Another disaster, catharsis
Another half-discarded mirage
Another mask slips
I face off with the physical
My head’s ringing from the love of the stars
There is too much pretense here
Too much depends on the fragile wages
And extortionate rents here
We’re working every dread day that is given us
Feeling like the person people meet really isn’t us
Like we’re gonna buckle underneath the trouble
Like any minute now, the struggle’s going to finish us
And then we smile at all our friends
[Refrain]
It’s hard, we got our heads down and our hackles up
Our backs against the wall, I can feel you aching
None of this was written in stone
There is nothing we’re forbidden to know
And I can feel things changing
Even when I’m weak and I’m breaking
I’ll stand weeping at the train station
‘Cause I can see your faces
There is so much peace to be found in people’s faces
[Verse 2]
I saw it roaring
I felt it clawing at my clothes like a grieving friend
It said there are no new beginnings
Until everybody sees that the old ways need to end
But it’s hard to accept that we’re all one and the same flesh
Given the rampant divisions between oppressor and oppressed
But we are, though
More empathy, less greed, more respect
All I’ve got to say has already been said
I mean, you heard it from yourself
When you were lying in your bed and couldn’t sleep
Thinking, "Couldn’t we be doing this differently?"
I’m listening to every little whisper in the distance singing hymns
And I can, I can feel things changing
[Refrain]
But it’s so hard, we got our heads down and our hackles up
Our backs against the wall, I can feel your heart racing
None of this was written in stone
The currents fast, but the river moves slow
And I can feel things changing
Even when I’m weak and I’m breakin'
I stand weeping at the train station
‘Cause I can see your faces
There is so much peace to be found in people’s faces
[Verse 3]
It’s not enough
To imagine we’ll be happy when we’ve got enough stuff
All this stuff is blocking us
I’m neat with no chaser
I’m all spirit, but I’m sinking
'Cause the days are not days but strange symptoms
And this age is our age
But our age is rage sinking to beige
And yes, our children are brave
But their mission is vague
Now I don’t have the answers
But there are still things to say
I stare out at my city on another difficult day
And I scream inwardly, "When will this change?"
I’m beginning to fade
But my sanity’s saved ‘cause I can see your faces
My sanity’s saved ‘cause I can see your faces
[Refrain]
It’s hard, we got our heads down and our hackles up
Our backs against the wall, I can feel your heart racing
None of this was written in stone
The current’s fast but the river moves slow
And I can feel things changing
Even when I’m weak and I’m breaking
I stand weeping at the train station
‘Cause I can see your faces
I love people’s faces
Thank you
You’re so kind to do this, thank you x

This is beautiful, brilliant, touching, hopeful.
I left my home at the beginning of all of this madness. Now stuck on the other side of the world unable to go home for how long I do not know? This song brings me to tears. If you are lucky enough to be in your home with the people you love and you can see their faces, appreciate it and tell them how much you love them.
So beautiful. It's quite an achievement for a song to make me cry, and this is the only one to do it.
This song is unbelievable. It touches me on such a deep level.
I love your work...you inspire me to write and to listen...Thank you ...awesome stuff
Such a unique haunting voice, beautiful, powerful lyrics, people listen and learn.
KATE YOU SPEAK TRUTH AND WISDOM... LOVE AND RESPECT NEEDED.....WE ARE NOT ROBOTS WE FEEL WE ALL BLEED...ONE LOVE...ONE NATION
There is so much peace to be found in people's faces.. God I feel that, to the ones I've lost I love you ❤️
Facebook's covid video bought me here, this beautiful piece bought a tear to a grown mans eye, such a raw and perfect piece

Kate Tempest is a treasure. She's just what we need right now.
Kate is a prophet. Tears of sorrow and beauty each time I listen.
This cracked me. Incredible, beautiful. A stark and sobering reflection of every dread day that is given us.
Every face
