nick, do you not see a lot of lapras and gyarados is gyms? I see them as much as the other 5, probably more than arcanine since they are weak to vaporeon
Something that would help is giving more stardust. I feel I have to save my stardust for the top pokemon. I would love to drop stardust into some of my fav pokemon but I just don't have the stardust. More stardust would let players power up those "weaker" power which would make them stronger.
No it's not available yet, Niantic accidentally gifted one to a player who reported a loss of items and then they took it back stating they didn't mean to send it to him and since the pokemon was not yet released and no one else would have it.
I'd like to see Gym Types. You beat a gym and it gets a random gym type. Now you have to add a pokemon of that type in there. If you also limit the gym to one or two pokemon of the same species, you'd see a lot more diversity and CP variety. The best pokemons of every type would become useful, specially with a species limit in place.
I've given this a lot of thought. I did not get a Vaporeon worth a thing, until I was level 29, which I still am. I got rid of the others, but I always used my Staryu in gyms and never thought a thing about it, because I didn't know better. For me, fighting at a gym with a pokemon that requires me to slow down, think before I tap, or swipe and nibble away has been more fun than just catching them. I also am now conserving stardust. Some of the reasons you outlined for bothersome gym mechanics, are some of the reasons I enjoy the game more now. I see it as a challenge to use good moves, know when to dodge what and play. I've also had some burnout, but not playing one day, or doing it casually while I travel and have fun doing other things, something I learned here on this channel, has made me happier with the game as well as doing what I think you are doing and not rushing to level, but making it a journey. I see this as a journey. I am not out for just a Lapras now. I want a really good one and I'm willing to travel to find it, but see other sights as well. This has enhanced the game for me. As the high CP only players go, they gather high CP. I've found using other pokemon to take a gym, and waiting to evolve the right Gyarados (I was terrified of Twister, but I got the moves of my dreams), has taught me to appreciate this game because I've made it part of my journey to get over years of agoraphobia. I know, TMI, but in all seriousness, twenty pounds gone that I wanted to lose, and going new places has made this game a life changer for me and your channel has helped. Is this the last game I will play with real world interaction? Probably not. I see a future of games that do what this one does, get's people out there in a way that no other game has and learning about new places. Although, I do understand your frustration and not having a Dragonite is a huge disadvantage to me.
Your perspective is my perspective on this game. The band wagon crowd has jumped off. A lot of people still play the game. It gets me out & going & I enjoy battling gyms (just wish you you got more potions from poke-stops). It's still a fun game for me & I as well an looking for a Lapras. I have 7 Snorlax's.
I have so many potions, and get so many, I dump some. If I could give them to you, you could have them! I don't have a gym close by, so when I go to battle, I bring snacks and an extra battery pack. I also have a USB charged fan to cool down my phone. I make an event of it. It's not an everyday thing. I don't live where the Dratini Spawn like candy to be collected. Le sigh. I see Nick at Santa Monica Pier and I cry a little inside.
Goat Rodeo Fiber Fiesta I only keep the hyper potions and max potions. The regular potions are worthless when all your pokemon are over 2000 cp. I do enjoy battling gyms though. It's fun & I like the style of doing it. Not just tapping the screen repeatedly.
ALL of your Pokemon are over 2000 CP? No wonder you are into a need of revives and potions. I'm level 29, halfway to 30 and I am ahead of my personal goal. I still lack a Charizard, Dragonite, and Aerodactyl. I have a Dratini that is really awful (all caught in the wild that is a spawn site, but seems to have some sort of odd will of it's own. One day I pick up five in a half hour walk and others, I don't see one. There is no magic time of day there, either. It's multi spawn, or no spawn at all). My current Dratini (just holding it so I know how many candies I have), is CP 485, HP 54, with 31 candies and according to The Silph Road's thesilphroad.com/ IV Rater, not the only one I use, but not bad, it's about 87% on the IV's. with Dragon Breath and Aqua Tail. Not exactly Dratini dreamland. Only five of my 142 current Pokemon, and I am about to drop an egg and evolve today, are over 2000. I am dedicated, but you!! I bow to you. As we read in Mystic, "Overall, the Rudis Ascencio, is a wonder. What an amazing Poke Trainer!!!" I know, silly, but I'm serious. Those are amazing numbers. Do you have a few you really work on and just a couple that you have not transferred, or a hoard of mega Pidgeot's at your disposal? Can you even get a Pidgeot's CP above 2K? I have never even thought about it. Although, now that I look, I have one at 1700.
Gyrados and Lapras are common in coastal places or places where Arcanine isnt readily available. I live in Vancouver and Arcanine is pretty rare here so i see a lot more Lapras and Gyrados here than say L.A. which commonly spawns Growlithe.
They need to just overhaul the entire gym and combat system. I had a lot of fun catching pokemon but Niantic is shooting for far too broad a demographic to maintain anything of substance when it comes to its combat system. I picked up Pokemon Uranium a little while ago and after just an hour of playing that it was easy for me to see that Pokemon Go in its current iteration would never match any of the depth that the regular games can achieve. Meaningful interactions beyond just catching pokemon is what will give the game its longevity, and right now, gyms just aren't interesting. You can brute force any gym with enough healing items and even low level pokemon can eventually take out a gym (and even when your full team of six can wipe out an 8 or 10 stacked gym, you still need to spend upwards of 30+ minutes fighting that same gym over and over again to take it over). There's no strategy outside of picking what pokemon has an advantage over whatever other pokemon, but as long as my 2100 vaporeon can wipe out two 2600 dragonites in a gym, I really don't see the point of playing further. If they ever introduced something more akin to Pokemon Stadium, that had real strategies implemented with gym battles, I'd be back into it in a heartbeat though I think.
I like to leave my Lickitung, because it's weird. It doesn't really matter what I leave, because someone will come along and defeat it within 20 minutes, even if it's a 2200 CP Lapras.

You have a really good point about seeing the same pokemon in every gym. All I see in gyms around Toronto are primarily taken over by a combo of Gyrados, Vaporeon, Dragonite, Snorlax, Hypno & Lapras with high CP. I would like to see another way of ranking pokemons in gyms so that I could put in a random pokemon like a porygon or vulpix...
Very well said, Nick. Something else that has been bothering me with this game from the beginning, with this whole casual aspect of the game, is the stats and appraisal system. I hate having to press on appraisal so that I get a vague rating about my pokemon, I wish the stats would just be out in the open. It would make more sense, would be more fun, and less clicking through lines of redundant text. But hey, I guess Niantic is afraid it would be "too nerdy". Instead, we get worthless information about their height, weight, etc.
Spiriax It really sucked when Poke Advisor got the ban hammer. The appraisal system is incredibly vague, and cue Niantic's notorious lack of transparency; if it wasn't for Nick's video and some dedicated players on Reddit, we wouldn't even know the particulars of each message. Great system Niantic, real great. It's not fun at all typing in parameters on an IV checking site over and over for hundreds of Pokemon. It really isn't.
they should just put your pokemon in the order that they went in the gym. so if you're the 10th person to put a pokemon in a gym (even if you have the highest cp) you would be the first to get taken out.
I guess because when you leave your pokémon in a gym, it will be the first to get kicked out of it as soon as someone attacks it. Unless ofcourse you level it up and someone puts another pokémon infront of yours. Though, currently it takes longer to level up the gym the higher you get. Leveling it up would benefit the first person that left his pokémon the most. While the last person has to get 10k reputation just so he can get his pokémon kicked out as soon as some other team attacks it.

Yes I'm kinda agreed with you Nick . I also wish they offer stardust from Gym battle & Transfer pokemon . What you think about the limit gym you can own per day ..currently 10 max ..Do you think it should be increase or decrease the amount of gym u can become leader ?.
/rant People who have custom ROMS installed onto their android devices are unable to play pokemon go. A custom ROM is something that alters the device. For example, an s6 custom ROM on an s4 makes the s4 have every feature of the s6, and makes it behave like an s6. Please raise this issue Nick, as I really want Niantic to sort this issue, so me and the 5000 other people across the world can start playing and enjoying the game again...

v39.1 is running on my cm13 unrooted. You have to pass some but not all of SafetyNet checks which does not include checking for custom rom but if the device is rooted. But yeah I agree that it was a shitty move of niantec since there are devices that come prerooted like my previous phone.

Because jolteon is known for speed but since speed isn't a big factor and other stats are, jolteon suffers. Nick made a video on it a week or so ago that you can watch for more info!
Because jolteon is a boss! Flareon is my favorite Pokémon, but in GO jolteon is a boss attacker even with much lower CP. My 1800 CP jolteon crushes dragonites and gyarados with up to 2500 CP.
Gyms aren't made to be kept. I took a half dozen gyms in my small town and left 1800+ cp pokemon. All were booted in less than 6 hours. I just toss neat and interesting things in now.
have a war with a mystic and valor, 6x, just beat them and wait till they snacth the gym. after they dont do it, i just leave 10 cp rattata named trololol, get salty kids wkwkwkw

Yeah, same here in Norway suprsingly same. I am very curious how it is in Poland, France, Germany and Sweden. I heard spain has alot of fire pokemon and rock.
Michael Lojewski Here in Sweden Vaporeon isnt as quite common but Gyrados is basically in every single gym. Also everyone I've seen has at least 1 really high Eggecutor.
I see Dragonites, Vaporions, and Snorlax a lot. Not so much Arcanine and Eggecutor. But I also see Laprass a lot. Don't see many others that are common here, Saw a gym with a pidgey, machop Snorlax and a Dragonite today
I think gyms should have a type, like in the original games. water gym, grass gym, phsycic gym etc. if you put a phsycic pokemon In a phsycic gym it gets a boost of 15% cp.
How do you think Niantic is going to incorporate the new generations? Theoretically, if they just throw in the next 100 pokémon spawn rates will double and when 2 rattatas pop up it would be assumed that a spinarak and a ledyba would too. With that being said, as the generations continue there would be crazy amounts of spawns everywhere. How do you think they'll avoid this? I personally think that Niantic should give players the options to switch "maps" from Kanto to Johto etc. That way when you're in Kanto, only generation 1 pokémon will spawn and so on. I'd really like to hear what you think of this theory and what your ideas on the subject are. I love your videos!! They're the best parts of my TH-cam day!
Man I know how you feel. I wish Pokemon like Marowak or electrode were usable. It sucks. What's the point of even having them in the game other then the dex entry.
the funny thing is that top tier first gen pokemon of the main games are just 8-10 different pokemon as well. when the legendarys will be avaiable, it will become even worse... there is only hope that there will be balance changes and more diversity with the second generation
I agree, I thought this myself. Recounting the amount of times I've replayed Gen 1, I generally pick the same 3 'mon, and change it up on the last 3, but even that cycles though a select few. Realizing this I'm trying to think about the difference, and I think it all comes down to the form of grinding? Grind anywhere anytime apposed to only grind in spawn areas.. Although they feel VERY different. However, I'm sure its debatable, in the games it's much more possible to use an uncommon 'Mon than in PoGo, just because of how you level, and the ability to pick a moveset, and even EV's come in play. I'm still unsure if comparing PoGo to the main series is a good thing to do, there's arguments for both sides, but it seems Niantic never decided themselves (Whether to make it different or similar.) Sorry for the long comment ahah.
Leonardo Rossi it was tho. the difference is just that you could level a weak pokemon higher (and there wasnt a single lvl 100 pokemon in the game) but you can do the same in pokemon go. the difference is that all pokemon have different max CP which makes weak pokemon useless in the late game
It actually has 2 charge moves that have lower dps than wing attack fast move and most of the people in my town are in lvl 10 and 15 so maybe its because there are a lot of pidgeys and they can evolve to pidgeot easily . but if you think that it is actually a good bug grass and fighting counter it is good for attacking gyms only.
Pidgeot is good for taking on any Pokemon. So long as it has Wing Attack (Hurricane is even better). Takes down Snorlax, Vaporeon, Arcanine pretty easily.
I love the way you try to give every pokemon a chance in battle. Not so long ago I beat a Machoke with a Drowsee half it's CP. Training up that Instinct gym would've never been so easy! :) Parasect's Solar Beam is OP if he had decent IV's! Thanks for your unique and usefull tips and tricks you've taught me ever since the start of Pokemon Go. I'm looking forward to your videos every day, but don't forget to give yourself a break once in a while!
They're not always hackers; I have 8-10 dragonites, 4 of which are above 3k cp- I just play a ton and am near places where I can get Dratinis provided I walk a lot, which I do
Yep- Dratinis are pretty common in SF I go once a week, 7 hours on that one day Get around 150-160 dratini candy in that time Stay at home the next day (Sunday) because I'm exhausted after the grind day lmao
lol, yesterday i leave a golduck on a gym (in the center of a closed Park at 10pm). somehow, they take it down at 2am and leave a +2000 dragonite :v it seems ghosts like pokemon go.
What is the point to your comment? First off, Nick probably does not care if you have "better" than his or not. Also I am pretty sure that Nick has said before, the reason why he does not have a lot of high CP Pokémon. He saves his stardust for his best Pokémon. Another reason why, was pointed out in this video too. He is probably holding onto his stardust for his favorite Pokémon just in case Ninatic decides to make changes to how Gyms work.

I recently switched from an iPhone 5s to a Huawei P9 and ever since then, whenever I try to catch a pokemon, the pokeball freezes in the air for 5-15 seconds. Is this a problem with just my phone, or does everyone with android phones experience this?
Its just that Huawei phones are Double A compared to Samsung and Iphone (triple A phones) and Huawei is just pretty low quality overall, I would recommend you to switch back Iphone and if possible get a 6s.
not true, I have a pretty low end 5x from them. it's worked exceptionally well with the game. then again, mine is rooted and running custom ROM so maybe that's not fair...
I'd just go with the order of first come first serve. The person who defeats a gym is always going to be at the top while someone who comes along and trains it up... gets next in line. that would be my suggestion
I disagree, I really like this kind of music personally. But I guess it's very "gamey" in its feel, and could essentialy be a game soundtrack so I can see it wouldn't be for everyone.
Holy hell this video played next after today's video April 23rd 2019. Hard to believe this was that long ago! It doesn't feel like it's been almost 4 years. the channel still kind of feels new but it's not at all. Now it's a part of my daily routine and I honestly don't see myself going without it. That's so crazy!
One thing that i think would be cool is that if u take a gym over. it should tell u who took it over.. maybe start some rivalry in ur home town... it should be determine by who did the most work
How would being able to take a Gym even make it fun? Is it an ego thing? You just want them to see your Pokemon at the top? That's not a good reason. The reason the game is boring is because it's a boring game. There is nothing to do but swipe the screen. There is no strategy or thinking behind attacking.
Yeah I agree man. It is somethin we tend to avoid like the plague kuz of these high cps, but Nick shows us that with practice on impeccable evasive technique alternating with attack, we can take down these gyms. And also, what he also stated, there should be a reward for taking down high cp gyms other than horrendously low xp gain.
That would amp up the fun of the game, kuz unless you jus like to battle gyms, knowing you might end up losing it after crushing a high lvl gym, you wouldn't bother the expense of your potions wit battles that have less than decent output reward.
Disagreed completely. I have a high-level Starmie and I can't ever seem to make a dent in enemy gyms with it. I have 6 Vaporeons over 2000 CP and with just 2 or 3 in my attack group I can take down any gym no matter who defends. I'm not gonna NOT use Vaporeon or some of the others you mention because it bothers you as much as it does. Plus, I've seen you place Snorlax pretty consistently at gyms so way to be a hypocrite. Thumbs down on this video and if I had more hands, I'd give you more!
Nina I usually save up plenty of stardust and I'm pretty picky on who I spend it on because it's so hard to come by. I live in Colorado and for some reason Eevees are super super common around here. I catch so many that I can be picky with which ones I keep and which ones I transfer. I literally have over 200 Eevee candies right now. I caught one just minutes ago with high IV's and 680 CP. I'll evolve that and it'll be over 1800CP for sure. Then I won't have to use THAT much stardust to get it to over 2000. 2 of my Vaporeons that were assigned to gyms were defeated today so I was able to power them up some more. I now have 8 Vaporeons well over 2000 CP!!!
I loved your rant in the beginning. I fully agree. It's nice when you see trainers user other Pokemon than the sanctified 5. When I battle gyms sometimes I use Pokemon with lower CP just for fun. What good is having your Pokemon if you never use them in gym battle.
I am a big fan of fixing "Defense Battles Won" to acttualy accrue whenever an attacker faints to a defender and then ranking defenders by Defensive Battles Won. Lower ranked pokemon will get priority with encounters as they defend first. Higher ranks would eventually fall in ranks as lower ranks get first dibs on battles. Plus "Defensive Battles Won" would actually mean something and not be just another confusing stat that exists for no reason
I think a cool thing Niantic could do would be to make a specific type of Pokemon stronger at certain gyms, kinda like the anime. For example, if there was a gym at a lake, water types would be stronger.
I totally agree. I want to see some more diversity in gyms. Both this and the stat balance changes (though I don't want just Alakazam and Gengar in the gyms). What I really want is every single Pokemon to be in gyms, to be usable.

I would love to put my evolved Dragonair in gym and never had to evolve it further. Same goes with Haunter which I really loved when playing Original Pokemon and it took ages(back in the day when most of kids didnt have Gameboy) to find someone to trade with and evolve it to Gengar(which really sucks in Pokemon GO) or even more Pokemon who I grew up with which are now useless in the current state of the game. for me now I saw a vileplum today in a gym, as well as a tough magmar. they seem to spawn out here in corona around 4 am when I head off to work. keep up the good work man. also would like to see the new car when you finally choose your new baby. make another vlog video about that as well.
The equinox being less than 2 weeks ago, the entire Earth except above artic circle and below antartic cirle have about 12 hours of daylight right now. The only place you could go right now if you want more daylight time is north or south pole, but you would really get more dusklight as the sun is on the horizon and it casts long shadows. Everywhere on Earth has the same yearly daylight time if you don't account for cloud coverage, relief and discounting anywhere above artic circle and below antartic circle. The only thing that changes going north or south is the daylight distribution throughout the year. Hence, you have longer summer daylight in LA than at the equator.

I like this idea for Level vs CP for gym ranking. It's also a lot more realistic than the suggestion you floated previously to rank defenders based on when they add in. If that idea was implemented, the first in (and ostensibly last out) defenders don't have to do much work to build gym prestige, which would only increase the prevalance of various forms of cheating. THIS NEW IDEA ROCKS! Yes, I would love to leave my Starmie and have a chance for it to hang around! Great stuff nick, keep putting it out there and hopefully Niantic will hear it.
Hey Nick, you are probably one of the reason this game is maintaining a lot of players, and also the reason a lot of us are every day more excited about the game even tho Niantic is desperately trying to force us to leave (i know, sounds strange, but sometimes it really seems they are trying they' re hardest to let this game become trash, never seen a company like that before). big fan of your messages aimed at Niantic. this is one they need to see more of. because I see the top five at nearly every gym near me too. & it definitely has impacted how much time I spend playing regularly. repetitiveness is an incentive to put the game down and check out other experiences. Hey nick! Great video! So I noticed you trying to capture that eggexcute earlier - looked like you were going for an excellent throw- and I realized that each Pokemon has its own special unique distance from us as players when we encounter them. I've noticed it's really difficult to throw GREAT or even NICE curveballs on Weedles and a few other weak basic types. Thought it would be interesting to maybe go over a few different throws for Pokemon at different distances. Oh I also noticed that if you have a fainted Pokemon, it can be fully healed if you evolve it. So if someone is low on revives or potions, and is planning on evolving a Pokemon to keep for batting and such, evolving it will fully restore its hp. Anyways brother thanks again for your hard work and dedication. God bless
Nick, if you want your pokemon in a gym for more than an hour stop battling gyms on your own. the game for me is about planning raids with a team, we scan an area to see what gyms are there and who is holding them then plan our attack time and hit hard. we get all the gyms in the area to level 10. I claim my 10 gym bonus each day, I have about 17 pokemon assigned with only a few losses per week. I am constantly reinforcing gyms and taking down any new colours that appear in my area, we also let everyone in the group know when a gym is down so reinforcements can come to build it back up.
One of my favourite Pokémon to attack a gym is Omastar. I evolved a pretty decent Omanyte and got an Omastar with Water Gun/ Hydro Pump which I was very happy about. I'm currently level 31 and maxed this one out just for fun. It has now arround 1.9 k CP and deals tons of damage. Once I also pushed a gym with just a below 700 Jigglypuff (yeah, not Wigglytuff, i know the difference), cuz it was able to defeat the almost 1200 CP Dragonite, so this was super efffective. I also like fighting with Dugtrios, cuz they are super effective to push electric type gyms and with Dugtrios extremely low CP you get lots of prestige per fight. Clefable is also really awesome, it gets almost 2k CP and deals a crap ton of dmg with just having access to MOONBLAST (super cool name btw). My Charizard has only 2246 CP but has Wing Attack and Fire Blast which is AMAZING! It justs extincts every grass and bug type Pokémon and is even good vs fighting type. To be honest, I put a lot of Dragonites into Gyms as well, because I'm sick of losing my Gyms after just 10 minutes, but I also put my Charizard, Blastoise, Clefable, Aerodactyl, Venusaur, Muk, Vileplume, Kabutops, Raichu, Magmar (1.6k). This are those I could just remember. There are a lot more I could effectively use. I also like the kinda unique thing and I also enjoy, powering up lower tier Pokémon, even it's just for making the game experience more interesting, but I also push up my already 3.1k CP Dragonite, just to show off. I like what Nick is doing and I enjoy doing this by myself. It's like "oh see what Nick is doing in his video today, I did the same last week on my own, feels good man." Btw Nick: YOU FORGOT LAPRAS! Here in my town Lapras is one of the more common Pokémon in Gyms, like Snorlax! And I think Lapras is a real pain in the neck, no matter what its moves are... ;)
This video is so true. Before i knew about IVs and tier pokemon, I was leveling the hell outta my top jolteon. I thought his speed and dps would be a knockout, but it gets beaten up all the time.
I think the most common Pokémon must vary by area. Those five are common here, but also lapras and gyarados are often the top spots and people around my neighborhood at least tend to put more random things in. There's little chance of staying in a gym long enough to collect twice even so people are more likely to put it weaker things. I personally tend to put in flareons because they're super easy to train against, but if I don't plan to train I'll put in clafables or hypnos or even pidgeots, golbats, or venomoths, just whatever I scroll to on my CP list. I don't have any of the top five except vaporeons and I do sometimes leave them but not my highest ones.

I catch Pokémon for this exact reason. I put machamp into gyms, or any Pokémon you don't see in these gyms. It's gone incredibly fast, but it still is cool to know there's a new pokemon in a gym.
The problem with ordering by level is that you would get the same PEOPLE at the top of each gym. They are currently limited by their ability to get dragonites so a level 32 player in an area where most players are level 30 that has 3 dragonites probably couldn't guarantee that they top more than 3 gyms. If ordering was by level, their only limit would be stardust so they could easily be at the top of 20+ gyms.

Something that would help is giving more stardust. I feel I have to save my stardust for the top pokemon. I would love to drop stardust into some of my fav pokemon but I just don't have the stardust. More stardust would let players power up those "weaker" power which would make them stronger.
i think it's good as it is rn cuz it feels like something special to power up pokemon so you need to be very careful with your stardust

No it's not available yet, Niantic accidentally gifted one to a player who reported a loss of items and then they took it back stating they didn't mean to send it to him and since the pokemon was not yet released and no one else would have it.
I'd like to see Gym Types. You beat a gym and it gets a random gym type. Now you have to add a pokemon of that type in there. If you also limit the gym to one or two pokemon of the same species, you'd see a lot more diversity and CP variety. The best pokemons of every type would become useful, specially with a species limit in place.
I've given this a lot of thought. I did not get a Vaporeon worth a thing, until I was level 29, which I still am. I got rid of the others, but I always used my Staryu in gyms and never thought a thing about it, because I didn't know better. For me, fighting at a gym with a pokemon that requires me to slow down, think before I tap, or swipe and nibble away has been more fun than just catching them. I also am now conserving stardust. Some of the reasons you outlined for bothersome gym mechanics, are some of the reasons I enjoy the game more now. I see it as a challenge to use good moves, know when to dodge what and play. I've also had some burnout, but not playing one day, or doing it casually while I travel and have fun doing other things, something I learned here on this channel, has made me happier with the game as well as doing what I think you are doing and not rushing to level, but making it a journey.
I see this as a journey. I am not out for just a Lapras now. I want a really good one and I'm willing to travel to find it, but see other sights as well. This has enhanced the game for me. As the high CP only players go, they gather high CP. I've found using other pokemon to take a gym, and waiting to evolve the right Gyarados (I was terrified of Twister, but I got the moves of my dreams), has taught me to appreciate this game because I've made it part of my journey to get over years of agoraphobia. I know, TMI, but in all seriousness, twenty pounds gone that I wanted to lose, and going new places has made this game a life changer for me and your channel has helped.
Is this the last game I will play with real world interaction? Probably not. I see a future of games that do what this one does, get's people out there in a way that no other game has and learning about new places.
Although, I do understand your frustration and not having a Dragonite is a huge disadvantage to me.
Your perspective is my perspective on this game. The band wagon crowd has jumped off. A lot of people still play the game. It gets me out & going & I enjoy battling gyms (just wish you you got more potions from poke-stops). It's still a fun game for me & I as well an looking for a Lapras. I have 7 Snorlax's.

I have a Dratini that is really awful (all caught in the wild that is a spawn site, but seems to have some sort of odd will of it's own. One day I pick up five in a half hour walk and others, I don't see one. There is no magic time of day there, either. It's multi spawn, or no spawn at all). My current Dratini (just holding it so I know how many candies I have), is CP 485, HP 54, with 31 candies and according to The Silph Road's thesilphroad.com/ IV Rater, not the only one I use, but not bad, it's about 87% on the IV's. with Dragon Breath and Aqua Tail. Not exactly Dratini dreamland.
Only five of my 142 current Pokemon, and I am about to drop an egg and evolve today, are over 2000. I am dedicated, but you!! I bow to you. As we read in Mystic, "Overall, the Rudis Ascencio, is a wonder. What an amazing Poke Trainer!!!"

Gyrados and Lapras are common in coastal places or places where Arcanine isnt readily available. I live in Vancouver and Arcanine is pretty rare here so i see a lot more Lapras and Gyrados here than say L.A. which commonly spawns Growlithe.
I also see Poliwrath a lot, but then again I do live right by the coast...

They need to just overhaul the entire gym and combat system. I had a lot of fun catching pokemon but Niantic is shooting for far too broad a demographic to maintain anything of substance when it comes to its combat system. I picked up Pokemon Uranium a little while ago and after just an hour of playing that it was easy for me to see that Pokemon Go in its current iteration would never match any of the depth that the regular games can achieve.
Meaningful interactions beyond just catching pokemon is what will give the game its longevity, and right now, gyms just aren't interesting. You can brute force any gym with enough healing items and even low level pokemon can eventually take out a gym (and even when your full team of six can wipe out an 8 or 10 stacked gym, you still need to spend upwards of 30+ minutes fighting that same gym over and over again to take it over). There's no strategy outside of picking what pokemon has an advantage over whatever other pokemon, but as long as my 2100 vaporeon can wipe out two 2600 dragonites in a gym, I really don't see the point of playing further.
If they ever introduced something more akin to Pokemon Stadium, that had real strategies implemented with gym battles, I'd be back into it in a heartbeat though I think.

You have a really good point about seeing the same pokemon in every gym. All I see in gyms around Toronto are primarily taken over by a combo of Gyrados, Vaporeon, Dragonite, Snorlax, Hypno & Lapras with high CP. I would like to see another way of ranking pokemons in gyms so that I could put in a random pokemon like a porygon or vulpix...
Very well said, Nick. Something else that has been bothering me with this game from the beginning, with this whole casual aspect of the game, is the stats and appraisal system.
I hate having to press on appraisal so that I get a vague rating about my pokemon, I wish the stats would just be out in the open. It would make more sense, would be more fun, and less clicking through lines of redundant text. But hey, I guess Niantic is afraid it would be "too nerdy". Instead, we get worthless information about their height, weight, etc.
This is an issue with a lot of Pokemon games which have hidden stats as well.
Well, they do place a lot of emphasis on height and weight, so maybe it does play a latent role in the nature of our pokémon.

It's not fun at all typing in parameters on an IV checking site over and over for hundreds of Pokemon. It really isn't.
they should just put your pokemon in the order that they went in the gym. so if you're the 10th person to put a pokemon in a gym (even if you have the highest cp) you would be the first to get taken out.

I guess because when you leave your pokémon in a gym, it will be the first to get kicked out of it as soon as someone attacks it. Unless ofcourse you level it up and someone puts another pokémon infront of yours.
Though, currently it takes longer to level up the gym the higher you get. Leveling it up would benefit the first person that left his pokémon the most. While the last person has to get 10k reputation just so he can get his pokémon kicked out as soon as some other team attacks it.

People who have custom ROMS installed onto their android devices are unable to play pokemon go. A custom ROM is something that alters the device. For example, an s6 custom ROM on an s4 makes the s4 have every feature of the s6, and makes it behave like an s6. Please raise this issue Nick, as I really want Niantic to sort this issue, so me and the 5000 other people across the world can start playing and enjoying the game again...
I wanted to address this issue to you, as you are the only youtuber who I know will raise this issue and attempt to make people like me able to enjoy the game again
This is one of far bigger issues that should get alot more light by youtubers and eveyone else.

v39.1 is running on my cm13 unrooted. You have to pass some but not all of SafetyNet checks which does not include checking for custom rom but if the device is rooted. But yeah I agree that it was a shitty move of niantec since there are devices that come prerooted like my previous phone.

Because jolteon is known for speed but since speed isn't a big factor and other stats are, jolteon suffers. Nick made a video on it a week or so ago that you can watch for more info!

Because jolteon is a boss! Flareon is my favorite Pokémon, but in GO jolteon is a boss attacker even with much lower CP. My 1800 CP jolteon crushes dragonites and gyarados with up to 2500 CP.
Gyms aren't made to be kept. I took a half dozen gyms in my small town and left 1800+ cp pokemon. All were booted in less than 6 hours. I just toss neat and interesting things in now.
I agree they need to make changes though.

Michael Lojewski Here in Sweden Vaporeon isnt as quite common but Gyrados is basically in every single gym. Also everyone I've seen has at least 1 really high Eggecutor.
i can talk about germany, we have a crap ton of eevee here (i have over 300 candy), no exeggcute and growlithe is very rare.
I see Dragonites, Vaporions, and Snorlax a lot. Not so much Arcanine and Eggecutor. But I also see Laprass a lot. Don't see many others that are common here, Saw a gym with a pidgey, machop Snorlax and a Dragonite today

I think gyms should have a type, like in the original games. water gym, grass gym, phsycic gym etc. if you put a phsycic pokemon In a phsycic gym it gets a boost of 15% cp.

How do you think Niantic is going to incorporate the new generations? Theoretically, if they just throw in the next 100 pokémon spawn rates will double and when 2 rattatas pop up it would be assumed that a spinarak and a ledyba would too. With that being said, as the generations continue there would be crazy amounts of spawns everywhere. How do you think they'll avoid this? I personally think that Niantic should give players the options to switch "maps" from Kanto to Johto etc. That way when you're in Kanto, only generation 1 pokémon will spawn and so on. I'd really like to hear what you think of this theory and what your ideas on the subject are. I love your videos!! They're the best parts of my TH-cam day!

I agree, I thought this myself. Recounting the amount of times I've replayed Gen 1, I generally pick the same 3 'mon, and change it up on the last 3, but even that cycles though a select few.
Realizing this I'm trying to think about the difference, and I think it all comes down to the form of grinding? Grind anywhere anytime apposed to only grind in spawn areas.. Although they feel VERY different.
However, I'm sure its debatable, in the games it's much more possible to use an uncommon 'Mon than in PoGo, just because of how you level, and the ability to pick a moveset, and even EV's come in play. I'm still unsure if comparing PoGo to the main series is a good thing to do, there's arguments for both sides, but it seems Niantic never decided themselves (Whether to make it different or similar.)

it was tho. the difference is just that you could level a weak pokemon higher (and there wasnt a single lvl 100 pokemon in the game) but you can do the same in pokemon go. the difference is that all pokemon have different max CP which makes weak pokemon useless in the late game
In my town you see golbat and pidgeot more than snorlax arcanine dragonite and vaporeon ( you never see exeggutor)
Pidgeot is surprisingly good in gyms
It actually has 2 charge moves that have lower dps than wing attack fast move and most of the people in my town are in lvl 10 and 15 so maybe its because there are a lot of pidgeys and they can evolve to pidgeot easily . but if you think that it is actually a good bug grass and fighting counter it is good for attacking gyms only.

I love the way you try to give every pokemon a chance in battle. Not so long ago I beat a Machoke with a Drowsee half it's CP. Training up that Instinct gym would've never been so easy! :) Parasect's Solar Beam is OP if he had decent IV's! Thanks for your unique and usefull tips and tricks you've taught me ever since the start of Pokemon Go. I'm looking forward to your videos every day, but don't forget to give yourself a break once in a while!

What is the point to your comment? First off, Nick probably does not care if you have "better" than his or not. Also I am pretty sure that Nick has said before, the reason why he does not have a lot of high CP Pokémon. He saves his stardust for his best Pokémon. Another reason why, was pointed out in this video too. He is probably holding onto his stardust for his favorite Pokémon just in case Ninatic decides to make changes to how Gyms work.

I recently switched from an iPhone 5s to a Huawei P9 and ever since then, whenever I try to catch a pokemon, the pokeball freezes in the air for 5-15 seconds. Is this a problem with just my phone, or does everyone with android phones experience this?

Its just that Huawei phones are Double A compared to Samsung and Iphone (triple A phones) and Huawei is just pretty low quality overall, I would recommend you to switch back Iphone and if possible get a 6s.

One thing that i think would be cool is that if u take a gym over. it should tell u who took it over.. maybe start some rivalry in ur home town... it should be determine by who did the most work
The game has gotten boring because gyms are impossible to take. its no fun anymore.

How would being able to take a Gym even make it fun? Is it an ego thing? You just want them to see your Pokemon at the top? That's not a good reason.
The reason the game is boring is because it's a boring game. There is nothing to do but swipe the screen. There is no strategy or thinking behind attacking.

Yeah I agree man. It is somethin we tend to avoid like the plague kuz of these high cps, but Nick shows us that with practice on impeccable evasive technique alternating with attack, we can take down these gyms. And also, what he also stated, there should be a reward for taking down high cp gyms other than horrendously low xp gain.
That would amp up the fun of the game, kuz unless you jus like to battle gyms, knowing you might end up losing it after crushing a high lvl gym, you wouldn't bother the expense of your potions wit battles that have less than decent output reward.
Disagreed completely. I have a high-level Starmie and I can't ever seem to make a dent in enemy gyms with it. I have 6 Vaporeons over 2000 CP and with just 2 or 3 in my attack group I can take down any gym no matter who defends. I'm not gonna NOT use Vaporeon or some of the others you mention because it bothers you as much as it does. Plus, I've seen you place Snorlax pretty consistently at gyms so way to be a hypocrite. Thumbs down on this video and if I had more hands, I'd give you more!

Nina I usually save up plenty of stardust and I'm pretty picky on who I spend it on because it's so hard to come by. I live in Colorado and for some reason Eevees are super super common around here. I catch so many that I can be picky with which ones I keep and which ones I transfer. I literally have over 200 Eevee candies right now. I caught one just minutes ago with high IV's and 680 CP. I'll evolve that and it'll be over 1800CP for sure. Then I won't have to use THAT much stardust to get it to over 2000. 2 of my Vaporeons that were assigned to gyms were defeated today so I was able to power them up some more. I now have 8 Vaporeons well over 2000 CP!!!

I have a 1576 starmie and it kicks butt...moves ets have a lot to do with how powerful they are

I loved your rant in the beginning. I fully agree. It's nice when you see trainers user other Pokemon than the sanctified 5. When I battle gyms sometimes I use Pokemon with lower CP just for fun. What good is having your Pokemon if you never use them in gym battle.
I am a big fan of fixing "Defense Battles Won" to acttualy accrue whenever an attacker faints to a defender and then ranking defenders by Defensive Battles Won. Lower ranked pokemon will get priority with encounters as they defend first. Higher ranks would eventually fall in ranks as lower ranks get first dibs on battles. Plus "Defensive Battles Won" would actually mean something and not be just another confusing stat that exists for no reason
I think a cool thing Niantic could do would be to make a specific type of Pokemon stronger at certain gyms, kinda like the anime. For example, if there was a gym at a lake, water types would be stronger.

I totally agree. I want to see some more diversity in gyms. Both this and the stat balance changes (though I don't want just Alakazam and Gengar in the gyms). What I really want is every single Pokemon to be in gyms, to be usable.

I would love to put my evolved Dragonair in gym and never had to evolve it further. Same goes with Haunter which I really loved when playing Original Pokemon and it took ages(back in the day when most of kids didnt have Gameboy) to find someone to trade with and evolve it to Gengar(which really sucks in Pokemon GO) or even more Pokemon who I grew up with which are now useless in the current state of the game. The equinox being less than 2 weeks ago, the entire Earth except above artic circle and below antartic cirle have about 12 hours of daylight right now. The only place you could go right now if you want more daylight time is north or south pole, but you would really get more dusklight as the sun is on the horizon and it casts long shadows. Everywhere on Earth has the same yearly daylight time if you don't account for cloud coverage, relief and discounting anywhere above artic circle and below antartic circle. The only thing that changes going north or south is the daylight distribution throughout the year. Hence, you have longer summer daylight in LA than at the equator.

I like this idea for Level vs CP for gym ranking. It's also a lot more realistic than the suggestion you floated previously to rank defenders based on when they add in. If that idea was implemented, the first in (and ostensibly last out) defenders don't have to do much work to build gym prestige, which would only increase the prevalance of various forms of cheating. THIS NEW IDEA ROCKS! Yes, I would love to leave my Starmie and have a chance for it to hang around! Great stuff nick, keep putting it out there and hopefully Niantic will hear it.
Hey Nick, you are probably one of the reason this game is maintaining a lot of players, and also the reason a lot of us are every day more excited about the game even tho Niantic is desperately trying to force us to leave (i know, sounds strange, but sometimes it really seems they are trying they' re hardest to let this game become trash, never seen a company like that before). big fan of your messages aimed at Niantic. this is one they need to see more of. because I see the top five at nearly every gym near me too. & it definitely has impacted how much time I spend playing regularly. repetitiveness is an incentive to put the game down and check out other experiences. So I noticed you trying to capture that eggexcute earlier - looked like you were going for an excellent throw- and I realized that each Pokemon has its own special unique distance from us as players when we encounter them. I've noticed it's really difficult to throw GREAT or even NICE curveballs on Weedles and a few other weak basic types. Thought it would be interesting to maybe go over a few different throws for Pokemon at different distances.
Oh I also noticed that if you have a fainted Pokemon, it can be fully healed if you evolve it. So if someone is low on revives or potions, and is planning on evolving a Pokemon to keep for batting and such, evolving it will fully restore its hp.

Nick, if you want your pokemon in a gym for more than an hour stop battling gyms on your own.
the game for me is about planning raids with a team, we scan an area to see what gyms are there and who is holding them then plan our attack time and hit hard. we get all the gyms in the area to level 10. I claim my 10 gym bonus each day, I have about 17 pokemon assigned with only a few losses per week. I am constantly reinforcing gyms and taking down any new colours that appear in my area, we also let everyone in the group know when a gym is down so reinforcements can come to build it back up.
One of my favourite Pokémon to attack a gym is Omastar. I evolved a pretty decent Omanyte and got an Omastar with Water Gun/ Hydro Pump which I was very happy about. I'm currently level 31 and maxed this one out just for fun. It has now arround 1.9 k CP and deals tons of damage. Once I also pushed a gym with just a below 700 Jigglypuff (yeah, not Wigglytuff, i know the difference), cuz it was able to defeat the almost 1200 CP Dragonite, so this was super efffective. I also like fighting with Dugtrios, cuz they are super effective to push electric type gyms and with Dugtrios extremely low CP you get lots of prestige per fight. Clefable is also really awesome, it gets almost 2k CP and deals a crap ton of dmg with just having access to MOONBLAST (super cool name btw). My Charizard has only 2246 CP but has Wing Attack and Fire Blast which is AMAZING! It justs extincts every grass and bug type Pokémon and is even good vs fighting type.
To be honest, I put a lot of Dragonites into Gyms as well, because I'm sick of losing my Gyms after just 10 minutes, but I also put my Charizard, Blastoise, Clefable, Aerodactyl, Venusaur, Muk, Vileplume, Kabutops, Raichu, Magmar (1.6k).
This are those I could just remember. There are a lot more I could effectively use. I also like the kinda unique thing and I also enjoy, powering up lower tier Pokémon, even it's just for making the game experience more interesting, but I also push up my already 3.1k CP Dragonite, just to show off.
I like what Nick is doing and I enjoy doing this by myself. It's like "oh see what Nick is doing in his video today, I did the same last week on my own, feels good man."
Btw Nick: YOU FORGOT LAPRAS! Here in my town Lapras is one of the more common Pokémon in Gyms, like Snorlax! And I think Lapras is a real pain in the neck, no matter what its moves are... ;)
This video is so true. Before i knew about IVs and tier pokemon, I was leveling the hell outta my top jolteon. I thought his speed and dps would be a knockout, but it gets beaten up all the time.

"Go eat" that's nice. When I have a busy day I always just forget to eat.
I think the most common Pokémon must vary by area. Those five are common here, but also lapras and gyarados are often the top spots and people around my neighborhood at least tend to put more random things in. There's little chance of staying in a gym long enough to collect twice even so people are more likely to put it weaker things. I personally tend to put in flareons because they're super easy to train against, but if I don't plan to train I'll put in clafables or hypnos or even pidgeots, golbats, or venomoths, just whatever I scroll to on my CP list. I don't have any of the top five except vaporeons and I do sometimes leave them but not my highest ones.

I catch Pokémon for this exact reason. I put machamp into gyms, or any Pokémon you don't see in these gyms. It's gone incredibly fast, but it still is cool to know there's a new pokemon in a gym.

The problem with ordering by level is that you would get the same PEOPLE at the top of each gym. They are currently limited by their ability to get dragonites so a level 32 player in an area where most players are level 30 that has 3 dragonites probably couldn't guarantee that they top more than 3 gyms. If ordering was by level, their only limit would be stardust so they could easily be at the top of 20+ gyms.
