UV album is truly a sad masterpiece :( so relatable to many of her fans. i could literally write an essay on this song alone. She got criticized for "glamorizing abuse" but imo an abuse victim can tell their story/perspective and heal from trauma anyway they need to. she was showing how the cycle of abuse continues and keeps a victim trapped in that mindset and relationship. She uses "jim" as a reference to multiple diff things in her music, Jim as an ex, as a reference to jim morrison (rock singer who died young), or jim beam as a reference to alcohol, as she was addicted to alcohol from a young age. Not her love language necessarily but something an abuse victim gets accustomed to during that type of relationship bc the abuser makes the victim think that they're hurting them bc they love them

Ultraviolence isn’t about a man.. when this song came out Lana del Rey got a lot of backlash for it because people were assuming she was romanticizing domestic violence. Lana later came out and explained she’s talking about jim beam the alcohol drink. Lana has always been open about her alcohol and drug abuse in her songs, interviews, etc. she has always said alcohol was her first love.
    Please react to cherry :)

I know the lyrics were controversial but do you realize how brave she was by speaking her truth? That some women undergo in this type of toxic love where they want to fix their man and be subjected to these hardships with reasons they too can’t explain. She’s not glamorizing or condoning it. She’s just diaristic in her lyrics like the poet she is.
