I'm 60 years old, Cascade foothills of Washington state born and raised. You two live the life that I dreamed of and never took action. I'm in awe of what you've accomplished. Anyone can have bush craft skills, anyone can have gardening skills. The MAGIC that you two posses is long suffering acceptance. Love yourself, love each other, accept what you perceive to be your partners shortcomings and press on. I'm green with envy, sad for a life squandered and grateful for the opportunity to vicariously envision my dreams through you.
It's not too late my friend. If you are pro-gun and like hunting and fishing, you are welcome here. Sell out and head up the highway. I've been here almost 50 years. A lot has changed, but this is still the best place to live.
I love that you two never get upset when things go awry, you just back up and do it another way. Tomato popsicles - that may catch on. That was a beautiful productive harvest.
I have not ever tried to freeze my tomatoes. I thought I had to either use them or give them away (until I learned how to can them). Now, I will freeze them too.
Unless I’m making fresh sauce for dinner I always freeze them to get a huge batch to can. If you cut a small x in the bottom and take the core out (with a knife or strawberry/tomato corer.) you can freeze with the skins on and just thaw or run under warm water and the skins slip right off! No blanching and peeling. Love to do it that way. You can then dehydrate the skins and make tomato powder (for thickener or reconstitute with some water to make tomato paste).
I enjoy so much all your videos, I am 65, you live the life I dream but never took action, no more than an avid gardener an preserve food you both are a fountain of inspiration ❤😊
I started canning a few years ago an I love to watch everything you can. It never sounds repetitive the way you show us and I appreciate your experience and knowledge. It helps me see I’m doing things right or wrong. A big thank you to you both.
I also began canning recently. I love to watch and learn from this channel (and others). I wish I knew about gardening and canning long ago (instead of super markets and fast food).
Thank you for explaining why you decided to pressure cook the tomato sauce. I found that very useful to know. It's fun getting excited with you over your abundance. Good job!
Loved this one, it's so awesome to watch the two of you go through the process of planting, harvesting, cooking and canning all of Mother Nature's abundance. Now I can't wait to see the two of you cooking throughout the winter with all of this goodness. Thanks for sharing.
My wife and I always include tomato skins when making tomato sauce since they contain a lot of nutrients. We just grind them up with the immersion blender and no one ever notices them.
I was raised on a farm and you have me remember all the things we picked. We truck farm for all the local farmers market. We were a hunting and fishing family. Love your channel and you teach and show in a nice way so people can learn. Thanks.
I love gardening even though I'm not good at it. I hardly grow anything. None_the_less, I love gardening. It's my happy place. Thank you for making all the gardening videos that you could. They are my favorite. 🙏🏼
Was that sound in the background of this video pouring rain? Man, that extra covered space you two created has turned out to be SO valuable to have for projects like this when it's raining or you need a dry place to cure onions, etc. Amazing results!
What a great bank account, can’t have a better one than that. You guys can feed yourselves a year long without stores if you needed to, what a wonderful way to live. GOD Bless y’all
I agree with you about the new video brightening your day (sorry it was crappy). I find myself waiting for their uploads and sometimes go back to their channel just to watch other videos. They represent the TRUE DEFINITION of a POWER COUPLE!
Canning is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. I love to hear the pop of a can sealing, and just look at all the bounty God has blessed us to have. I congratulate you both on your hard work and your beautiful canned goods. You young people are very inspiring to us older folks, and I am always so excited to see what is in store next. I was just thinking if you decided to move to the new place, how much room you will have for a garden, animals, and even a cellar. I hope you become millionaires from all your hard work.
Love that you two show the REALITY of gardening and canning projects ---didn't get to harvesting the apple sized tomatillos on time, "you spilled a little" down the blender and on the prep table, checking the canning book for the millionth time to CYA, we heard sparking and had to stop, experimenting with adding blended tomato peels for thickener. Thanks for always sharing your real life adventures with us all!! Much love from the Midwest US 💖
In my backyard, we planted purple tomatillos about 10 years ago and they've basically gone wild in the 4 foot by 20 foot side yard that was home to my mulch pile. Most people grow them as annuals; but they are really perennials and around here if you chop them down to about 6 inches from the ground around November, they'll come back around March.
Actually tomatillos and tomatoes are annual plants. They do not survive the winter and with roots that come back like perennials. But it seems they do because the seeds over-winter and sprout in spring. We call those "self-seeding annuals" and it really depends on what kind of winters you have whether the seeds will germinate - probably not in Alaska
I live in Vancouver Canada and like you planted about 8 years ago. I tear my plants up every year so I think mine must self seed. I love them so much. They are truly prolific!
You and Eric need to add on a small room for your pantry stocking. It is important to have adequate storage space. Also where you can have easy access to all the abundance. You two are an amazing couple and I am proud of all your accomplishments. You are a fine example to our nation and what all couples can achieve together. I salute you and shall always wish you to he best . Well done!
You guys make it look easy and fun, even though it was a rough day on the equipment you powered thru and set a new record! Love the new tomato skin technique as well!
That green salsa looks amazing - I will have to try growing tomatillo! I grow plenty of tomatoes and preserve them. Thanks for sharing your bounty with us!!
You guys inspired me to try canning this year. Everything pickled with 1/2 vinegar/water plus spices, but I did okra, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, green beans, and Swiss chard. Everything’s been delicious so far. And my water bathing is improving. Last time 6 out of 8 sealed.
Fully addicted to this channel, have learnt so much and the content is simply nourishing for my mind and soul. I love a good cup of coffee and a video from Simple Living Alaska!
ExtraOrdinary!!! You guys are amazing. I love to watch the salmon canning…I guess because it is sooo good to eat straight from the jar! You deserve the Great Canner Award!
we had a large garden in our backyard growing up and our grandmother would can everything she could...we still had some canned figs, plums, tomatoes and such for a long time after she passed away..good living. thanks for sharing your life with us!!
I know a chef that teaches a culinary class at a high school. They have a garden and he runs all of his tomatoes through a blender when they make tomato sauce. No straining and he says the sauce is great tasting and has the added benefit of a little more fiber with the seeds and skin. Your channel is terrific and inspirational.

Amazing! a next project for Eric: build a trolley to carry all the jars back to the cabin…would be useful elsewhere too, am surprised you haven’t don’t it already. You both did a great job and congrats on the new canning record. Will there be a moose this year? a loved watching how you butcher a moose and make it ready for your needs. Stay are x

This incredible video brought back great memories. We had a family farm for 40 years in SE Wisconsin, we didn't live on it, but fortunate to be only 30 minutes away and we spent a lot of time there doing all the outdoor activities, hunting, fishing, Xcountry sking, snow machines, gardening, tree planting (thousands of them over the years). One of my favorite memories is of my mom's gigantic garden and all the fresh (real) veggies and fruits we had. It was all organic before that was a big deal. Lots of hand weeding and ZERO Roundup or the like, cow manure for fertilizer. The only pesiticides used was on the peach trees, otherwise we would not have had any peaches. She did a lot of canning as well, which was awesome during the Winters. I never took for granted how lucky I was to eat incredible food growing up. I love your channel! Thanks🤠
I canned salsa verde for the first time earlier this year, I was given a couple bags of frozen tomatillos by the lady I bought starts from....I'm inlove with it and 3 out of 4 starts grew wonderfully so I'm about to make it again using my very own homegrown tomatillos , jalapeños, cilantro, onions and garlic ❤️.

Isn't it amazing how some tiny seeds, dirt and water can feed a family for a year?!? That is happiness, right there.
Blessed is God Almighty the Creator, Giver of Life!
And roughly an hour of hard work per 10lbs of produce.
And to think some people think that all this just came about by accident -
Amen to that!
