    🧐Frequently Asked Questions About Our Online Lessons:
    Q❓: I have no experience with katana. Will I still be able to catch up?
    A💡: You don’t need any previous katana martial arts experience to participate in our lessons.
    Seki Sensei, the instructor of the online lessons, will carefully instruct you on how to handle the katana regardless of your level. You will also be able to access all the videos of the past lessons so you can watch what every other student has learned. You can also send us videos of your progress, and Seki Sensei will be happy to give you feedback.
    Q❓: What is the right length of the Iaito (zinc alloy training katana) I should use?
    A💡: Please purchase an Iaitō at least two blocks longer than the standard length.
    The standard length for Seki Sensei is about 177cm, so he should use a 2.45 Shaku long katana. However, he uses a 2.6 Shaku-long katana that is supposed to be used by someone 190cm tall. If the katana is too short, it becomes too easy to draw, which is not good for training.
    Q❓: Can I join even if I belong to a different Ryuha style?
    A💡: Yes, it’s not a problem at all.
    The Seki Sensei himself has trained in more than five styles and various other weapons. If you don’t want others to know that you are participating, you can join the online lessons with your camera off. To have the Sensei check your progress, you can send us a video of you practicing.

    The Jo is my favourite kobudo weapon to learn about, because the techniques are very easily applied to the hiking stick I carry with me on long hikes! I love practicing kata when out in the woods.
    Thank you very much for this informative video!

    As a stick fighter myself, it's wonderful to see the change in levels, from high to low and from low to high. There is a danger of habitually fighting at a middle level (between waist and chest) that leaves the head and knees vulnerable. Also, this is the first time I've seen a worthwhile use for spinning the staff. Excellent!

      that wasn't jo. Koliro had a long katana and was used to range advantage. Musashi did two things- he whittles rhe oar a couple inches longer than Kojiro and he kept him waiting as Kojiro was vulnerable to impatience. It was the ability to get in his opponents head that made home dangerous

    Great video!
    Shogo is making an observation at 2:46 that people might misunderstand.
    To be clear the force of the blow mostly re-positions the jo, for Ama to grip it in two hands and deliver the final strike.
    The sword strike against the jo provides some energy for the strike (maybe), but a lot will still come from Ama striking down with the jo once he has it in two hands.

    Thank you for sharing this ! Some techniques remind me of the Katori Shintô Ryu I practice and some are very different. I would say the main difference I see is that we rarely hit the opponent's weapon, considering that giving it a force might make it come back in an unpredictable way, just like the Jo did in this video !
    Thank you again, love your videos from both chanels ;)

    • @martindeviantxiii
      @martindeviantxiii 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He shortened a bō to be able to counter Musashi's cross sword block. Length of jō should be comparable with the user, we're not all the same height, mine is near 5 shaku.

    @addictedtoblades2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome moves brother ❤

  • @martindeviantxiii
    @martindeviantxiii 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Jō will not suffer from a katana strike if wax wood is used. Yh They're much heavier but the fibrous nature of the wood will make the blade stick in the staff. The duck then thrust at suigetsu is a very useful move. If you are learning jō it's worth checking out shaolin solid staff techniques also. Pretty much the same length, distance from outstretched hand to hand, around 4 shaku unless you're tall like me, mine is about 5 shaku. Asayama san is a legend, wish to meet him one day, and Tetsuro Shimaguci 🖤

  • @Deniz_50
    @Deniz_50 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Could these techniques be implemented on a yari (spear), or does Asayama Ichiden Ryu have seperate techniques for spears?

    • @neohubris
      @neohubris ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you can't do this with a spear because you can't flip around a spear like you can a jo staff.

    • @fnulnu5297
      @fnulnu5297 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe Deniz meant: Using the Jo techniques against an opponent armed w/a spear (rather than a katana). IMHO, I think there needs to be some adaptations because the spear is held differently than a sword, has greater range/distance and thus body mechanicsfollow suit.

    I think one of the most powerful aspects of these kind of ryūha is to use the receiving energy against your opponent. I recommend you to check out Wado Ryū karate. The founder had a menkyo kaiden in Shindo Yoshin Ryū Jujutsu and trained in Yawara Kenjutsu and made a unique karate out of it. Where other karate styles block, Wado never does. It is never 'jodan uke', it will always be 'jodan nagashi uke'. Nagasu, inasu and noru are a few key principles. I think you would find it interesting just like this video was to me.

    Would it be possible for me to share a new revolutionary skill and theory with tessen that I believe will allow humans to deflect bullets with relative ease, however they would need to be open fan tessen for wider blocking angle, and the skill I would have to teach seki and shogo exclusively, because the skill in the wrong hands would allow one to resist police officers easier, maybe I could earn lessons through said theory testing, I would like to share the skill, Its up to you if you want to teach everyone, but if you do, please support me with a portion of the money earned through teaching this skill, as I cannot care for myself and have a hard time with money, but If you'd be willing to trade knowledge for training I'd be very grateful
