This current team we have now is pretty damn good. Warner looking back in fine form, two batsman in Marnus and Smith who average over 60 which I don’t think has been done before or very rarely and now Travis Head is coming into his own and I think will be averaging 50 by the end of the summer, Cam Green who has shown he can bat last year at the SCG and now do it with the ball as he proved at the Gabba, Carey had as good as a debut as you can get for a keeper, Cummins obviously the best bowler and now captain in the world, Starc who was still a bit iffy at the Gabba, but that first ball was the stuff of dreams, Lyon looks like he can get now as he’s put the journey to 400 behind him and Hazlewood in the last two years has arguably been the best bowler in the world. Jhye Richardson coming into the team for Adelaide will be a fine replacement for Hazlewood as he’s been in just about as fine form as you can get for a bowler. In a few years with Pucovski and someone like Henry Hunt hopefully opening I think we will be without a doubt the best team in the world and one for the history books.

Keiron Pollard is doing a good job as Captain with the limited overs teams. Jason Holder is trying with the test team. He is a good leader but he needs better batsmen at the top. The openers are poor, the number 3 batsman is not reliable, however, the middle and lower middle order are pretty solid. They just get exposed too early because of the top three. Our bowling attack is among the top 5 in test cricket, so that tells you that we can compete once we get our batsmen to produce the runs that we are sorely missing. aussies of that era were not only talented but they had the champion mentality they never gave up and always thought positive even in worst of situations , that is something which is more important than talent , there were lot of other talented players in the world at that time but none were as confident and mentally resilient as aussies ( especially players like ponting, gilchrist, hayden and symonds) . At five down most teams would have crumbled under the pressure but aussies of that era were different class in terms of mentality.

Such was the quality of this Australian team. I believe this all started from 1999 world cup victory in England. At one point of time in probably 2005/06 or may be in 2007 that Australia could field 22 players who were individual match winners and had some serious talent. There was a match was wherein Australia even defeated the World XI boasting of World Class players like Lara, Pietersen, Sehwag, Akram, Shoaib, Murali, Vaas, Pollock and many more.
