No, you don't. It's pointless setting your fps to 120 on a series x/s if your monitor isn't above 60hz, as the refresh rate is the maximum amount of frames per second your display can render.
It is because the over heat try to get it to a professional to clean it and get the room that you are playing in to a lil cooler bc it is probably hot there

Can't enable 120 FPS on a 60HZ display and even then, I still have the frame time dips on 120 FPS. I tested 120 FPS on another display and still had the same results.

Playing Fortnite on series S is pretty rough I love the console but it is rough this happened to me a a lot more times then I’ll like it too I went to play Fortnite on my girlfriend PS4 Pro and I was so amazed how much better and better looking it ran that got me to buy a ps5 about less than a week of playing the ps4 pro and honestly I can’t see myself switching back to play Xbox on Fortnite but I play all other games on it still very much love the system

Its more powerful counterpart the Xbox Series X is specifically designed the opposite of the Series S, and meant for gaming. That’s why some Xbox players experience what you have been playing in and others play on a perfectly normal game.
Its not the system... its never happened to me only if the internet is being used up by others streaming Netflix or other online games ect.. the series S is multiple times more powerful than last gen ps4 pro n xbox one X. So it shouldn't be doing this unless is a server issue or net issue.. but also the series S gets very hot 141 to 143F at the fan... so get a external fan to cool it down.. that may help.
