I was stationed at K-Bay for almost 5 years minus the Gulf War... the absolute highlight of my Marine Corps career...many wonderful memories that will be with me till I leave this earth...God Bless the Marines, the Blue Angels, and this great nation of ours...I dedicate this post to the joint EOD teams at K-Bay 1987-1991...I remember you all...
Thanks for the reply :) It would be cool to see a documentary about not only the Blue Angels airshows, but also the logistics and travel involved in every performance.
From a quick search, all I could find was a picture of the planes with a stock grey centerline tank. Forums indicate that they don't have tanks matching the paint scheme of the planes.
Anyplace they go, they fly there. IDK exactly how many refuelings it takes to get from Hawaii to California, but given the range of the plane and the fact that they fly without external tanks, I would guess either 2 or 3, depending on the wind.
Does anyone know if they fly or ship the Blue Angels' aircraft back when they move from Hawaii to and from the mainland (lower 48 states)? Or are there different Blue Angels aircraft stationed around the US? If flown, does anyone know how many aerial refuelings it takes to get a F-18 from Hawaii to California?
Need more imagination and class in their manoeuvres...Even French Pilots can do it better "writing" Asterix Face in the sky with white smoke...Americans are the provincial style in Aviation...British has Elegance and French the class..

Nothing quite like an airshow.
