Great video. I, too, love my academic cause like you said it fits toploaders - but it also fits magnetic cases well too. That nigh on a decade of experience definitely shines through with this box.
The ability to hold toploaders and 35px magnetic cases is pretty nifty. I use mini snaps which fit into a twin flip&tray perfectly, but any hard case other than those won't fit in there, so having a box that's expressly designed with these in place is nice
@@Sloopdoop Yeah they're definitely not super sturdy. I'm not a big fan of Toploaders as they look kinda ugly in my opinion, but being able to use magnetic cases would definitely be an upgrade. Will be getting an Academic as soon as they're available to the general public
I love this box. The main compartment holds two of my CC decks. One small compartment is for my Kassai deck. And the other one is for the Sideboard of my CC-decks. And on top are also my dice. This box slaps!
I love the academic. I can fit 2 CC decks with sideboards in the mini trays. I’ve also had second configuration where I fit 1 CC deck in the main tray and 2 blitz/commoner decks in mini trays. It’s perfect for my FAB needs.
I use these for my FaB decks. for the trays i use one for dice and one for the cards that i used in the blitz version of the CC deck i keep in the main compartment. for the top dice tray i leave it empty because i can pull out the dice tray from below and it fits perfectly in that section then i can put the tray back when i am done and it protects the dice from going everywhere if the lid were to come off.
Dude, you’re awesome. Prof will always be the man! I love that you’re the “prof” for FAB but give all the credit due to prof. I’d love to see you two pair up for a FAB game.
Please do more FaB specific deckbox reviews! FaB had unique deck sizes compared to mtg and i find that most boxes are too big or too small for my double sleeved blitz/cc decks or dont fit my single legendary in its up minisnap!
Honestly, you can still use the standard deck boxes. For CC, I prefer the Gamegenic Stronghold 200+ and I just fill the gap a bit with double sleeved token or equipment cards so it's closer to a 100 card commander deck size. Same thing with blitz decks, just obviously a deckbox that goes down to 60 card size, and just fill the gap a little with spare equipment or token cards.
I might if something really catches my attention that seems really good for FaB. Other products as well. But I want to stick to stuff I think is worth reviewing so it will be rare

My only regret with this box was not getting a KS exlusive version. I just got the regular black/purple. Great box. I will get the non acadmic version when it comes out, especially if it's in orange.
This looks really good honestly. I typically use the Gamegenic Stronghold 200+ for FaB and MTG Commander since the decks go in sideways and stay flat and I can fill in the gaps for FaB with double sleeved tokens or equipment. I'm not a huge fan of the flip n tray because I find them very tight for double sleeved decks and the front and back cards kind of bend a bit as the bottom half is super tight and the top fans out since nothing is keeping the entire deck flat.
I can understand what you mean, but I like to put a deck box in there that I can just take and play directly from as if it were my library in mtg, while keeping any spare cards, tokens, and counters in the other compartments of the academic. Some deck boxes’ tops neatly flip over to prop them up at an angle, which is comfortable to draw from. Not a way of playing that a lot of people use or are even aware of, but the fact that the academic was seemingly designed with this niche of storing a “playing deck box” in a “ carrying deck box” in mind is very impressive.
I'm the opposite. I feel like they should remain 100% execlusive. You should of backed it, you legit had plenty of time. But leave it to the professor to not what anything to have rarity and exclusiveity. What a joke
@@sirlionheart4614 I’m sure the Professor is exactly the person that would not share this opinion. “Here is my dream deck box, you can’t have it!”. Also, if you wanted exclusivity you had access to clearly marked kickstarter exclusive colours.
@@sirlionheart4614 Prof has always wanted games to be accessible for everyone and that includes peripherals like deckboxes to protect investments. Besides, if you want rare and exclusive, I got the very last of the hand-signed Academics sitting on the shelf right next to me. There were those options.
Agree to disagree. this is my opinion; never stated it as fact. just dont appreciate the prof passively "lying" to us is all. "yeah at the point i have no plans of bringing the academic to retail; too much of a logistical nightmare; if gamegenic wants to then i guess; blah blah blah" just saying he absolutely 100% knew that this was gonna be going retail. he just happened to wait until the KS was like 90% done and shipped. He could of just a easily just partnered with gamegenic bringing it to retail instead of saying "this has to be crowd funded via the "community" via KS". Oh, man thank you so much to my backers this would of never of been possible - YEAH OK. He knew. thats why he went KS and whiped his hands of it and passed the rights to gamegenic. /shrug never again with tcc

It's genuinely an incredibly box. I am very happy I purchased them!

I used minisnaps for awhile as well in my Flip n Tray but they kept coming loose and opening. The space in the Academic is a huge gamechanger

I was more nervous that the amethyst spindown would crack than anything.
It's still intact. I hadn't even considered that tbh
that’s very good to hear, those spindowns are beautiful

Great coverage and vid man. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Unexpected content that I really enjoyed! Sometimes these card game “life style” videos are a good break from the grind of FaB as a whole.
That's one of the things I want to offer. I'm not big into competitive play so I needed to find my niche
Already using mine for a month or so. Its very flexible box and as a FAB player i love some space for toploaders.
Definitely a huge plus for a lot of players

fantastic video man
Thank you very much

I'd love to play a game of FaB against Prof! I've watched his stuff since his early days so he's definitely been a huge influence for me
Great review didn't think I would like doing that with my tokens but it worked really well
lol that end was awesome 😂 great vid bud.
I had to pull a fast one

Nice review ! Waiting for the retail version!
Wish it wasn't so far away but there's not much to be done about it!
I definitely have plan to buy it and I am sure it will be good for my decks.
Too bad it's not coming out this year though. Hopefully early next year!

I really love the red/grey, although I wish there was a red/white version. THAT would have looked amazing with the golden Prof logo
Does it hold a flesh and blood deck with The dragon shield Over sleeves??? Trying to find a deck box for my art sleeves with outers to protect them
It's a truly great box. Nice review!
Thank you!
Thanks for the review.

ILY!!!

Niiiice Let's go! WAIT top loaders are to protect EXPENSIVE CARDS?!?! Why do they even exist? I thought we want all cards to be cheap and affordable!
This guy
Gtf outta here. Probably the biggest and fattest fucking L take the professor has.
If my CF Phantasmal Footsteps crash in value I will be very upsetti spaghetti
@@Sloopdoop pretty card!
I'm gonna use mine to hold all my class specific stuff. That way I can build on the go. Want to play Dori? Cool it's all there. Kassai? It's all there
This video was awesome

Omg I'm one of those who once forgot their Snapdragon Scalers at home 😂 anyway, love the review
I do it all the time too, my friend
Hey, I'm making a TCG, and would like you to review my rules, if you want to, it's in prototype stage.
Thank you for the offer but I am going to decline
I will never understand why you would buy a deck box just to put another deck box in it.

That's cool. Too bad you can't actually buy them unless you're willing to spend 4x the kickstarter price for one second-hand.
They will be coming to retail next year which is why I reviewed them
