Steyning is a town, not a village, and has been so for hundreds of years. I was surprised how the road was so relatively clear of traffic, but as you say, the weather probably helped.
Thank you, I was lucky with the traffic.
Adur not Arun
The cottages at the cement works look west over the ADUR valley not the Arun.
Thank you, I always get these two mixed up
Bramber Castle is English Heritage not NT (also has an old Church). If you want to know about the Brighton to Guildford railway then this is an excellent series www.youtube.com/@tracingtherails . Warning its very detailed packing in lots of information on the route and other non-railway info along the way (other videos on the topic are available) . It also has a section on the (allegedly oldest surviving church in Sussex St. Botolph's Church south of Steyning. Additionally, an interesting section of road that runs kind of parallel in the road from Sompting to Steyning which takes you up and along the ridgeline the other side of the Steyning bowl, it even has a handy layby halfway along. It was however a bit hairy when they closed the A27 and people were using it as a diversion route in the summer.
Thank you. I plan to visit the Coombes road in future explores. I’ve penciled it a a rainy day explore, so that may come soon! I’m familiar with the steyning to Horsham section of the abandoned railway, having cycled it many times many years ago. I may become part of future explores.
I used to work in Storrington, beautiful place, there is a road going off it, just after the cloed hotel, which takes you into the styx, I used to go there during my lunch hour sometimes in the sunshine.
There are some great roads in the area. The one to amberly is a favourite of mine.
Wrong. Storrington is a village. Definition of a village is that it has to be bigger than a hamlet, have a place of worship and a meeting hall. Also and most importantly it has to be administered by somewhere else. Storrington is administered by Horsham District Council officially making it a village, albeit one of the largest in the country.
Thanks for your comment
The A272 would be my favourite road.
Thank you. I love the A283, but A272 is equally if not more interesting. I’m glad I included it.
25:15 we finally get to the river Arun
0:50 in, always lose Radio 2 there :)
LOL, the South Downs is not a great place for radio reception
A272 / A283 mix up?
Yes I start out on the A272 and finish up on the A283.
Steyning to Petworth is 283, Petworth to Midhurst is 272.
@@exploringsussex you still said as approaching Midhurst that it was your favourite part of A283. The A283 heads north out of Petworth.
Even with a few errors I still found there were a few useful comments although the WWII plain on Washington roundabout may be a bit out as the roundabout did not exist before 1970. It was an open sand pit before that.
Thank you for commenting. The story about the ww2 plane in Washington was told to me by a local that I bumped into while filming my walk from Storrington to Worthing. He had heard it from another local who has the V12 engine in his garden. Maybe he was spinning me a yarn? I found it interesting? Being a local myself that was not the first time I had heard that story.
@@exploringsussex I am Washington born, I have never heard about it at all, my dad was also Washington born and he never said anything about it either. We used to walk the the A24 and watch its construction as kids, I was 8 when the bypass opened.
I do however like your videos, so keep them coming. Locals love to spin a yarn occasionally.
