1974 to 1990 is beautiful. Such a whistle suits such a lady of the rails.
Layers!
A lady of strength and elegance
@@hb300blk well said ;)
The “Lady Of The Rails” is The 611 and other J Classes and K2a
The 74-90 whistle was a Southern Pacific 6 chime wasn’t it?
I wish they could have restored the 6 chime whistle but after so many years of hard use it started to wear down, don’t get me wrong the 3 chime Hancock whistle sounds phenomenal and every year after thanksgiving day to December 18th or so, during the polar express rides I hear that 3 chime SP4449 whistle from my house in Portland Oregon, it puts a smile of my face when I hear that roaring whistle that echoes, What a magnificent majestic steamer she is.
🎉❤
if 4449 still had it's 6 chime whistle with him he would still sound good I mean don't get me wrong the Hancock 3 chime like @per-michaeljamburg said it sounds phenomenal I just wish they had kept the 6 chime with it😔
@@VonVittoThe whistle was stolen. If it wasn't, the 4449 would still have it. As of now, it was found, restored, and put on ATSF 2926. It will most likely be used on 4449 when it runs next.
@@hoscalemadness IF it runs next. Amtrak's not supporting steam excursions as of at least 7 years ago, and 4449's no longer hauling the Holiday Express because of its immense size and weight over the trackage that's often used for those trains. As of now the best ORHF could possibly do is steam her up on occasion and offer short rides within the ORHF grounds. Not to mention that currently, her water tender is being used by Canadian Pacific 2816 in conjunction with her own.
4449#😊
Holy moly that SP 6 chime was a beauty
She sounded better with 700's whistle IMO.
I believe that is the whistle off of scrapped sister 4458 i think
Too bad it was stolen at Brooklyn Yard.
I would stick with the Nathan 3 Chime. Sounds so much better on 4449 at the 2:04 mark
That’s the NP 3 Chime.
2:04 is the whistle I grew up to
100% my favorite
Same
Same
That hancock 3 chime is my favorite
Yes
2:38 - 2:46 it sounds like Squidwards scream
The second whistle shown was actually 700's whistle and it was returned to 700 when her restoration was completed.
The One at 1:14???
Bro love the rails unlimited profile it’s sick
How do you know?
4:24 - The 2015 whistle is just pure perfection
1:11. Sound like 844 whistle
sounds more like 3985's whistle tbh
I love the Daylight such a beautiful train but that 6 chime in the very beginning just sounds and matches so much better then the future whistles after that
Only if you live in the Bay Area.
To each is own my friend
For all of you who don't know the horn is a Leslie A-200 which all GS-4's had if fog comes or if people don't hear the steam whistle. Personally the A-200 is most fitting on the GG1's which were electric locos built from 1934-1941.
I absolutely love her original whistle.... Same with her horn! But I really do like the way that her newest one sounds.... While it sounds like "give me back my old whistle!" every time it is blown, I can't help but think it fits.
Yeah her new one is from one of her lost GS-2 mates
Primary whistles she's used:
Hancock 3-chime from SP&S Challenger
Northern Pacific 3-chime
Authentic Hancock 3-chime from Daylight engine
The SP&S whistle was off 700, although for all I know 700s might be off a challenger
@@RocketStephen618 Nope, I was wrong. It's what 700 used in regular service.
Not to mention the same Leslie A-200/Wabco E2 single chime air horn she still wears
Which one is the Daylight Hancock 3-chime?
@@amtrak1214 the last one, and that last one is from a deceased GS-2
+Southern Pacific Productions Nice shot of 4449 I remember way back in 2009 I caught her at Kamazoo Michigan on that day it was awesome to see her in person.
I am so relieved that a streamliner as gorgeous and stoic as the Daylight is still with us riding the rails as majestically as it was the day it first entered commercial service!👍🚂☺️
I love that 2010-2011 one so much, sounds more demanding
Marquez Hanks Agreed. Arguably the loudest and fiercest of any steam whistle blown in the last 50 years.
2010-2011: I love that one. ♥️😍😇
Really love the work they did on the whistle in 2015, it sounds so much better now.
2:04 i love that whistle 😍
1990-2012 was the absolute best!
A shame we’ll never hear her original whistle from when she was built
My favorites:
1. 🤩 0:01 1974-1990
2. 2:04 1990-2012
3. 3:12 2010-2012
4. 😍 4:25 2015-2020
i guess her voice cracked
Lol
4:27 is amazing
What's the difference between the last two whistles they sound almost identical?
@@EngineerDaylight I believe it was because during the locomotive’s 15 year overhaul, the whistle was tuned differently so it sounds slightly different.
From 3:36 to 3:59 she’s absolutely killing it with the whistle
Please don’t say that.
@@nathancorcoran5347 He meant it in a cool way. :/
@@jimmyhook4852 Honestly. That wasn’t meaning for cool.
@@nathancorcoran5347 Suit yourself. You don't have to take things seriously though. :/
@@jimmyhook4852 Never mind about it. Anyways, I would like to see Southern Pacific 4449 in operation. It’s another wonderful engine. I really it’s SP 6 Chime too.
5:03 best 4449 whistle.
I hate the new one
#1989_4449_whistle
You’re kidding right?
Always my favorite
I hate the new one also
Got to love that whistle between 1990-2012
Shut up
@@LateRegister Rude.
4:25 ♥️ 😍 That's my favorite one.😍♥️
1:39. That sounds like a whistle who rage
That’s me when I feel angry.
Fits her with those black rings
Basically like He Man when he shouts “III HAVE THE POWEERRR!!!” Lol
2:40 That hancock 3 chime is amazing
That's not 844's
@@MilwaukeeRoadJames i know, its a similar hancock 3 chime
@@RobDaCoolE1 Specifically a Northern Pacific Hancock 3 Chime used by NP's Challengers back in the day
@@MilwaukeeRoadJamesBro what
Primary whistles
1. Southern Pacific LB-39M passenger six chime.
2. Hancock long Bell 3 chime variation 6
3. Hancock 64F long bell 3 chime variation 4
4. Hancock 64L long bell 3 chime
Variation 3
5. Leslie Typhon 34G single chime horn
Don’t you mean Long bell Hancock? Shortbells are entirely different.
@@JOEMAMA_534 yes i corrected iy
Love the very first one, bloody awesome 🙌
4:25 is my favorite whistle scene
Awesome video.... love that whistle
Both the 1974-89 & 1974-90 whistles are my favorites with the 1990-2012 whistle coming behind
My most favorite to least favorite:
1. 1974-1990
2. 1990-2012
3. 2015-Now
4. 2010-2011
5. 1974-1989
The ‘74 to ‘89 is the best
The 6 chime and the 1990-2012 whistles are my favs
Same here!
Most beautiful train whistle I’ve ever heard. Wish they still sounded like this. Can’t stand the train horns of today.
I love trains today, but nothing will ever top the steam locomotive
@@thatoneguy611 💯
I love it from 2015 😍
I love 4449's new whistle and SP 4449 is my favorite train.
me too. my fave paint job from daylight is probably the primary
Yeah only if the GS-2 was still here which where 4449 new whistle come from
1974-1990 whistle sounds pretty cool.
who is watching in 2020 and forgot that daylight had a air horn until u watched this and now remembered that daylight had a air horn
1990-2012 is the only whistle for SP 4449 hands down
Hearing that 6 chime brought tears to my eyes
Which one is the 6 chime?
That’s my girl ❤
God, she’s so beautiful.
2010 - 2012 is my favorite
The way it goes super deep and super long
2:03 me running away from my responsibilities and screaming
its the best train ever
I love that 6 Chime at the Beginning
The first whistle is a real screamer. The second sounds almost like the 611.
I like the 1974-1990 whistle, sounds like 765's whistle at a high pitch
I happen to like her whistle at 1:32.
Ethan Morel spooky as hell kinda whistle. I dig it
That’s my favorite whistle on her
why does two of the 2015 ones sound like a truck?
I just remembered - you left out the CB&Q Five Chime from 1992! Not a big deal but that thing made quite a sound, it was HILARIOUS
I left it out on purpose, it whore the whistle only on that one trip. I wanted to show the whistles it whore over many years.
Nice how you included the Airhorn too
That 90's whistle tho 😳
3:12 Does anyone know where I can find this video?
0:12. That sounds like a 1800s whistle
That’s a waaaaay more modern six chime whistle. The 1800s whistles were different. Plus I dig that sixer over all the others even the horn.
Those were more hooter type whistles than modern whistles, except for sierra's modern 5 chime in the 1890's
@@kirbyyork7669 I also like the 6 chime as well. I think it fits this locomotive the best.
@@kirbyyork7669 yeah i personally cant see it fitting very well, i dont know, probably just me lol
not only the whistle change and its body look but also the mars light how i can it change look at the inside it has those 2 little light bulbs in it but when years past now it has 1 big bulb inside plus the out side of it look bigger than the main light
That SP 6 chime sounds like the ones used on the Cab Forwards
Can someone tell me why it doesn't use a whistle anymore? Has it lost it's whistle? Is it broken?
4449's whistles from my most favorite to my least favorite.
1. 2015 - Now
2. 1990 - 2012
3. 1974 - 1989
4. 1974 - 1990
5. 2010 - 2011
All my opinion. If yours is different, that's fine.
1. 1990-2012
2. 1974-1989
3. 1974-1990
4. 2015- now
5. 2010-2011
0:01 that whistle reminds me of Everyone's Hero (2006)
Southern Pacific Productions can you make a vid of this train in 2020
Dah dah di dah = Q = morse code = No quarter! Means get out of my way I can't stop.

4:25 Andrew(SP 4449)’s Longbell Hancock 3 Chime
5:03 More of Andrew(SP 4449)’s Longbell Hancock 3 Chime
Sadly, there are no clips of a somewhat high pitched CB&Q 5 chime (which was originally from a now-scrapped M4 class 2-10-4)
If this video gets updated, I hope they include clips like these:

I know there are more video clips of this particular 5 chime elsewhere, but these are only just a few I just linked here.
That’s music to my ears
2:34 Why is the whistle screeching so badly? 😬
Guessing too much pressure released or something else
@@LateRegister The whistle was in bad condition, and therefore sounded bad
@@RocketStephen618 I’d say it would’ve sounded better if the whistle was rebuilt.
2:10. 2000s whistle
I wish it still had that whistle
I wish they would fix the whistle, it sounded way better than the current one, that’s for sure.
To be fair, that same whistle was used from 1990 until 2010 until it became worn out, but don’t forget it was first used on a Northern Pacific challenger class locomotive before the whistle was to be placed on the 4449 to begin with.
Happy 80th Birthday 4449.
love the whistle at 4:25
Yeah it’s from a GS-2
Maybe from another GS-4 locomotive.
It’s from a GS-3
That 6 chime whistle on SP 4449 just sounded like NKP 765!
No is not
1:33 I love that whistle!
Lord please relive the 4449
Is it me or does that sp whistle more sounded like a reading T1 0:09
That’s actually a Southern Pacific 6 chime off the GS-4’s high boiler pressure. I also heard it could’ve come off of a 4-8-8-2 Cab Forward.
@@kirbyyork7669 i thought it came from scrapped sister 4458.
The 2015-Present day is my favorite
That is a cool looking steam engine
the series of whistles at 1:37 sounds like an elephant being murdered
Not a very happy GS-4
It’s just earrape
Me when I’m angry.
Me when I’m on a roller coaster. lol.
4:25 is by far the best one out there in my opinion
Yep GS-2 whistle
Agreed!
I miss the 1990-2012
0:33 the part is very scary
I wish they'd hook up the full daylight consist and run the full train for an excursion if they get to go out again, that would be special
5:21, what's with the scaffolding around the smokebox door?
That was a frame for mounting IMAX cameras for a movie.
The southern pacific daylight 4449 carrys a amtrak and carry daylight coaches and make air horns
Hermosa locomotora
2:08
The first one sounds like Nickel Plate Road 765's 1990 Nathan 6 chime
Is the 1974-1990 whistle the one she was built with?
The 2015 whistle needs be the permeant whistle.
Ya I don’t love the new one to much
At 0:40 it looks rough. Anyone know why it looked like that? Was it in between paint jobs?
The 4449 looked like that for the filming of the movie “Come See The Paradise,” which takes place during WW2.
What's the wheel arrangement of daylight and why is it named daylight
4:25 someone make that a mp.3 sound file it's so good
Done, I can email it to you if you want
And the wheel arrangement is a 4-8-4, also known as a northern type. And its known as the daylight, because in service they pulled the Coast Daylight trains in Calafornia and other states. The Class name is GS-4, Which stands for Golden State
@Edward_LovesBigmacs If you want, you can use any .wav file out there.
Edit: On second thought, maybe not.
You do know that the whistle could’ve stayed the exact same for all those years? Camera audio was much different back then
Now THATS a train.
2:36. Wow.
2:33 what video is this cause the whistle sounds insane (in a good way 😅)
my favorite was the one that she had in the 1990s
second on 1974 to 1990 that is a N&W 611
That is not 611, nor doesn't it sound like it.
The first one sounds closest to the way 4449 sounded as I remember it as a kid in the early Fifties.
💯😁⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ my favorite steam locomotive 4449 daylight
This just made the 4449 better than the 844 all of the whistles sound great but the first whistle sounds the best
Does anyone know why they changed the mars light and why it moves slower?
If i recall correctly, the GS4s were delivered with the single beam. I personally like the dual beam better, but thats personal preference.
I think she’d look so good with a dual bulb with one white and one red.
Wonder what happened to them using full daylight colored trains. Now they seem to only use amfleet cars on excursions
Availability of the cars. I think all excursions in full daylight colors happened when Southern Pacific Railroad still existed.
