200,000 hand drawn individual cells. That is insane. Then to add voices to match, sound effects and music as well...awesome.

Actually voices and every other track are recorded first and the animation is made to match the tracks (at least that's the usual way).

This was my father's favorite movie. He was seven years old when it originally came out, and was blown away by it, and whenever it was released, he went to see it again. Which was, of course, how I saw it myself for the first time.

Probably my favorite animation fact ever is, they would use actual makeup on the cels for snow whites makeup. So even though it's animation its still real in a way.

People think computer animation is easier and less time consuming than cell drawn animation. I dunno, I’d say it’s more efficient. The time that was used to do all of the hand drawn aspects is now shifted over to other tasks, like building character rigs with setting up armatures with utilizing inverse kinematics for characters key frame poses, particle fx, building scenes in 2.5D or 3D space, adjusting key frames, lighting and shading fx. and rendering. I could go on and on, but you’re probably bored by now.

I have trouble understanding some shots. For example, when the dwarf behind the work table, sets his hand down it covers the table. So I can't figure out if table is on the background cell, and the character is drawn from the table edge up, or they have somehow managed to split the dwarf's cells above and below the table. As that doesn't make sense, I guess the dwarf is drawn above the table edge, but that looks like a very hard thing to get right. His animation even shifts such that a different part of him is below the table. I have seen some similar things done in Scooby Doo where I can't figure out the order of the cells ( this is pre computerized Scooby Doo per my recollection.) Is there a good book on the techniques of cel animation I get get?
