Also, am I also qualify to get the 1000yen credit for my first monthly bill too? Again, thank you so much for your help,

    It didn't make much of a difference for me, but my mobal Japanese number was one digit longer than regular numbers. It wasn't a problem, though. I noticed it when my hotel filled out the ta-q-bin form - the numbers were a little mushed together to make space for the extra digit.

    Thank you for this info. Your Japan travel hacks are always useful and clearly presented.
    My question is regarding some US travel credit cards that require two factor security authentication using text messages to your US phone number only when making purchases online in Japan. They don’t use email.
    Is there a way to use the temporary Japanese cell number to receive those authentication texts from the credit card company?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, great question! I do not know if this is possible. However, we get around this by also using Google-Fi. We use them exclusively to be able to receive texts, mainly 2FA as you mentioned from the USA. It costs about $20/month if you don't use data and you can cancel anytime. And since your phone is eSIM compatible you can have several eSIMS at once. I hope this helps!

Also, I want to use the Japanese number to purchase some concert tickets before I arrive in Japan that require some text verification. Hi, choosing between eSIM and physical SIM is really a personal preference. I've tested both from Mobal and don't really notice a difference. And sorry, you cannot receive a text outside of Japan using the Japanese SIM/eSIM and I don't think you can fully activate until you arrive in Japan. For the text verification you might try your local US number... It might work.

    Have Google Fi (Pixel 8) but do have an extra phone that I can bring. Based on the video the only things I think getting I'd get are local number which would be helpful for shipping packages but given that I do not speak Japanese I don't think I could say make reservations at a resteraunt. Does this seem about right to anyone else or would it be a good backup for Google Fi? Any other thoughts?

      Hi, great questions. For restaurant reservations a surprising amount of the popular restaurants have some english speaking staff :). And also, we use Google Fi as a backup, always. You can also use it to call emergency numbers in Japan. I should have mentioned that in the video.

    Why is the Japanese Governmental Regulations so restrictive in allowing foreign visitors to acquire local phone numbers? Either way, would certainly consider this simply for the peace of mind to, heaven forbid, be able to Call EmergencyServices in a crisis even if it might be a tad on the expensive side at ~$80NZD Converted

    Okay, I will not actually be visiting Japan (really wish I were though), but I would really like to get a Japanese phone number, if that is possible. Here is the reason why. I have been using this 3rd party Proxy Buying service, to have them order a product in Japan, and then have that 3rd party ship the item to me in the USA. The only problem is that the 3rd party buying services are unwilling to ask the seller questions for me. So, if I could somehow get a Japanese phone number, then I could sign up for websites like Mercari Japan, and ask the seller a question myself, that I need to ask about the item. Seems like this eSim card idea would not work for me, due to the card (actually code) needing to be picked up in person. Bummer. Wish there were some way to get a Japanese phone number, to receive texts. That is all I really need. I would be so grateful for any ideas about this. Thanks a lot.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, we've been thinking about this but cannot think of anyway for you to get around this since Japan has some pretty strict rules about getting a Japanese number.

    • @justinbryson352
      @justinbryson352 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KenshoQuest Thanks for your reply. I was hoping there might be a way. I mean, all I wish to do is be able to ask the sellers questions, and I can use a Translator to do that. I was hoping there might be an SMS service like Textnow for example, which gives you a free US Phone number. I would not mind paying for a phone number either. If I could, I would just order a Japanese phone, with a SIM card from Japan, and just use it to text questions on places like Mercari Japan, and Yahoo Japan auctions. I understand that is probably not possible though. Love Japanese products so much. It is such an interesting country, with its history, and everything.
