Little Feat was huge back in my college days in the late 70s. I love this band, and this rendition of Cold, Cold, Cold with Bonnie is fantastic. Never heard it before, so thanks Aimee Elizabeth for posting!
Thank you, Jim for loving it as much as I do. I was tickled when I realized this version wasn't already here. To get to contribute an essential piece of rock and roll to the living archives is one hell of an honor. (P.S. 'Pologies that it took me nine months to find your comment. I swear things sometimes play hide 'n seek until they're ready to come out.)
I found out about Lowell's death via an article in Rolling Stone, like six months after it happened. In my neighborhood library. The aritcle wasn't even about him, there was just a mention of him in the article, for whatever reason. I was floored.
I remember hearing of Lowell’s death on WHFS, Philly. I was tore up bad. I dreamt that night that Bonnie joined the band. When I woke, reality set in. Bonnie, like Lowell, was no substitute musician. She had it all going. Thankfully, my dream was just a dream. Bonnie Raitt is her own pilot, and we’re all blessed with her brilliance.
My band Whitehorse was booked to play the first 90 days with Lowell's new band after he quit Feat. We were driving to the Empire Theater in Richmond to set up for the first date when we heard on the radio he had died the night before. Drummer and guitar player quit. 3 weeks later I was homeless in Richmond. That one hurt.
I saw this band at Max's. Little Feat did a set and then Bonnie did a few songs with Freebo. One by one the players of Little Feat joined her. By a few more songs everyone was onstage. Lowell was still alive. We went back the next night to see it again.
Saw Little Feat with Bonnie opening in spring of '76. She came back toward the end of the LF set to sing harmony and do slide duets with Lowell. Super tight and funky show all the way around.
@@RandomButtonPusher Do you recall seeing a guy hanging out directly behind Richie's drum riser during the show? And Richie turning around to that guy occasionally during the set?
Actually, he is correct. Rock and Roll Doctor, A Tribute To Lowell George is a record that came out in 1997 and has this version of Cold, Cold, Cold done by Bonnie and the remaining Feat.
I was pleased to listen to this new band for me and a dramatic voice an incomparable Bonnie Raitt. She has never disappointed me, I've devotion to all, that Bonnie has done and doing now, and I'm also," blessed with her brilliance".
I know what you mean. These captured moments in time have given me sustenance for two decades, if memory serves. I feel very grateful to have discovered its absence here on the yoyubes. There are so many of us who need to have this in our lives. (Making the world a better place one song at a time.)
@@chrisrutherford9216 I was so surprised when I couldn't find this version on the youubes. And absolutely tickled that I could be the one to share it. I used powerpoint to put the song to the picture in video form. I'm good with computers but it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure it out.
I'm so happy you all love this as much as I do. I was without it for a time and there was a distinct gap in my musical world. Have you heard her and Lowell do Traffic's Can't Find my Way Home?
@@aimeeelizabeth I found the version recorded at Ultrasonic Studios, 1972. archive.org/details/13ICantBeSatisfiedLive/06+Can't+Find+My+Way+Home+(Live).m4a
Wow! I can be the first comment!!! Love Little Feat, saw them first with Lowell George and no one set down through the entire show.... Your feat wouldn't let cha!
Love Little Feat! Bonnie is still my fav female singer/ guitarist! She was doin it before women guitarists became popular. She seems to get better with age too!
THE best live band I've ever seen & I'm ancient, so I've seen plenty 🤣. Feat were great no matter the venue, & when you add occasional visits from Miss Bonnie or the Tower of Power horn section . . . My oh my! So grateful the music lives on on TH-cam! 💗🎵 Many thanks for this gem
@Aimee Elizabeth yes! Bonnie’s dad John Raitt was an actor and singer best known for broadway roles in Carousel, Oklahoma and The Pajama game, among others. Some sweet videos out there of him singing with Bonnie in later years.
1997. This version is with all the members of Little Feat except Lowell, of course. It’s from the tribute album Rock and Roll Doctor: A Tribute to Lowell George. You can find it on Amazon. Btw, Bonnie did not learn to play slide from Lowell, but her gear, open A tuning, and set-up was with his guidance. The old blues players were her major influence. Bonnie had a relationship with Paul Barrere of Little Feat that inspired the song All That You Dream. Prior to that she had a liason or two with Lowell, but he was married.
@@rocnrolldr Thanks for the source information. And of course I knew that Bonnie Raitt was initially inspired by older slide guitar blues players like Mississippi Fred McDowell. She used to talk about it all the time years ago when she was just becoming popular on the touring circuit.
Grew up in the DC area....saw Feat many times...even at Lisner for Waiting For Columbus....Feat OWNED DC

I think I read that Lowell taught her how to play slide. Notice how similar they sound.

I was in DC. Sucked 100 percent fetid ass. Still does.
I saw Bonnie Raitt with Little Feat at the Coliseum in Charlotte NC in 1976-77. Both were absolutely wonderful!
Agree best version EVER wow her voice just fits FEAT

Jeez, does anyone have tape from that show?
@@gregbowerman9222 Doubt it. It was at Michigan State, moved into the field house from the stadium due to rain. The photo lab lost my film.

Love this version. This is Bonnie performing with the Feat after Lowell died. From Rock and Roll Doctor: Lowell George Tribute (1997)
Lowell's tribute show was in 1979. This is from the Tribute to Nicolette Larson concert February 1998.

Awww Bonnie I love you.
Great work from the late Mr Barrere
My absolute favorite version of this song!! Love JD Souther's sublime version of Roll 'Um Easy as well and many others on this tribute album!
I had never heard JD's rendition before. Thanks for that!
Little Feat with Bonnie Raitt...... pretty damn killer.
Takes my breath away
to this day
Saw her perform this great tune with the Feat at the "Lotta Love" benefit concert for Nicolette Larson at the Santa Monica Civic. Awesome!

Such a lovely tribute to Lowell from Bonnie.
Love them both.

Blind Faith, wasn't it? Winwood might have written it while he was with Traffic but AFAIK they never recorded it.

Damn, swamp funk at its finest!
Right?!
If anyone could emulate Lowell's slide it's Bonnie... She would've made a great Lead Singer for Da Feats! We can dream... 🎸

Bonnie is so fine.
This track is off of Rock and Roll Doctor: Lowell George Tribute. GREAT album!
Oh, bless you for knowing the answer to this great mystery!
Good Lord I do love that women, yes saah!
And tomorrow (May 17, 2024) you can all buy "Sam's Place" and hear Bonnie singing with the band (and Sam) once again.
Isn't that Lowell in the middle?
That is indeed. This performance of this song was after he died. It's a great example of how much influence we have even after we're gone.
There is one old Lowell vocal line thrown in there
@@jimcaldwell8508 I hear Sam toward the end, but no Lowell.
lowell george was so great
Wow! what year is this from?.
This rendition was given to me without any history so I don't know. I have been told that it's has to be from after Lowell passed, so after 1979.
It’s from the Lowell tribute album released in 1997 and was recorded with the then-current lineup, so 1995-1997 I’d say.
Bonnie is the only one who could have replaced Lowell.
Year and location?
I don't know. This recording was handed down to me from my dad but didn't come with any backstory.
