I use a hand brake bleeder and the lid attatchment for a large mouth jar. Any small jar that will EASILY slide CAREFULLY into the mouth of a half gallon canning jar can be vacuum sealed this way. Awesome use for recycled pickle jars and dried spices.

I watched a video a few years back on YT where this man used a tall igloo cooler with the water/drink spout at the bottom front as a vacuum chamber. He put several jars filled with dry food inside, screwed the white lid back on, and put the vacuum hose into the dispenser spout while holding the drink button in then turn the vacuum sealer on. It worked...then he did a 1 gallon glass jar and it sealed too. There's different diy's or other items that could be used for sealing. Man he had a brilliant imagination, but it was so cool to watch him use an igloo (work truck type) cooler to get the job done!

That's pretty cool. I just didn't want to buy the vacuum sealing lids during covid because they were ridiculously overpriced. So I figured I already had these containers and didn't really use them, so why not use the canisters in a different way. Thanks for watching.

I bought a vacuum chamber from Rain Country and I love it. I bought the large one and can use odd jars that olives, salsa, medium pickles etc came in. I like buying things from Costco and because it’s just my husband and myself we lose foods like salsa because we can’t eat it fast enough. With Heidi’s husbands vacuum sealer I can reseal the jars after every use. Plus when the jars are empty I can seal nuts, dried beans, and dehydrated food in them. I wish they had one even a little bit bigger. I got my money back just in food I was able to save and jars I could reuse for things other than what came in it.

Interesting there is another youtube channel called rain country that sells canisters or vacuum chambers as they are calling them. With theirs you have the option of using a food saver or brake bleeder to do the seal by hand. with how they make food savers to break in a few years nowadays i think its worth looking into. Pretty sure Foodsaver got rid of that large-sized canister. Looked high and low for it for days and it's nowhere to be found. Only smaller-sized canisters are available. I'm pretty sure Foodsaver found out what people were doing and got rid of the large size. They want people to buy their WAY overpriced canisters, but not to use them as vacuum chambers.

Exactly what I do with any jar that I'm re-using.
I listen for the pop when releasing the vacuum.
Not all re-purposed jars will vacuum seal.
The Mason Jar lid sealer does work faster since you are not trying to pull a vacuum in the whole canister.

I pull a partial vacuum on various car paint products that are moisture sensitive. I use a vacuum pump, length of vinyl tubing with the end wrapped in cloth, put the tubing near the the can's cap an cover it with a thin sandwich bag. I put a rubber band around the can to seal it. The cloth on the end of the tube stops the sandwich bag from sealing it off. It works great & a similar idea might work for odd sized jars for you.

I am pretty sure that I know the answers, but: even with new mason jar rings and lids this technique does not replace water bath canning for perishable foods? Regardless of new or reused jars/lids, this technique is to be used ONLY for dry goods, rice, beans, coffee, etc to vastly extend the shelf life/freshness?

Commercial chamber seal vacuum packer..Deni vac system, food saver with the canisters you are using..I have tried softening the lid seals by using a plate warmer blanket.. Iv e mailed commercial producers of vacuum sealers to ask about any products ,but a standard answers given USED PRODUCE JARS SHOULD NOT BE REUSED FOR VACUUM SEALING!!! I have a love/hate relationship with ALL vacuum seal options.
BUT, my experience is that your vac sealer is running WAY longer to achieve a full seal. That’s a lot of sucking time...WEARING OUT your $ machine. It’s better to just buy those FS caps. In the LONG run it’s cheaper to NOT abuse your $ Foodsaver.
Save the canister for the odd size jar lids that the foodsaver caps don’t fit.
Just my own opinion based on experiments, with many versions.
