From Belgium: one of the songs you haven't heard for years, and then suddenly when you hear it again you play it for 10 times one after another and it brings back godless old time memories on the dancefloor. Forever young🤗
Anne Clark: "Outside the cancerous city spreads Like an illness It's symptoms In cars that cruise to inevitable destinations Tailed by the silent spotlights Of society created paranoia..." It's a damn masterpiece...

"the" coldwar 80ies hymn... i hear it first in Moscow on a underground party 1986, shortly after Chernobyl explodes... i was 12.... 🌟 2 songs from Anne Clarc i heared all those years, this one and "Our Darkness...."
i actually went to Moscow that summer, from Berlin, where i'm from, after i had lived in Brixton in squats for a while. it was considered a little bit badass of a trip then because the train went through the egg shaped chernobyl contamination zone. the Russian government offered that trip for a whole train full of german kids for cheap. it was a commie project. i was militant anarchist but they didn't mind. too bad I didn't meet you then because I didn't really manage to get a connection to anything real on the ground in those few days. not sure if that trip has anything to do with but now I'm so pro Russian that bad stuff could happen to me here - basically Scott Ritter style. it's almost like this music is a type of intelligent thinking that they don't make anymore... at least here.
Nearly three years ago, a few days after the first lockdown was imposed here in Belgium, I had to pick up a laptop charger I forgot at my office, in Brussels. As everyone was in a state of shock and feared a simple human contact could lead you to death, I decided to pick up the device around midnight, to avoid bumping into someone else. I took my car. The city was empty. During the 15 minutes ride from my home to my office, not a single person on the streets, no cars, nothing. Everything looked surreal, like in some post-apocalyptic movie. I decided to pull over, take a cinematic approach for this ride and play some music that i might find appropriate. I choosed this masterpiece. Although the nearly two years that followed this ride were among the worst a lot of people ever lived, I think I could pay to live those 15 minutes again and cross an empty metropolis listening to Anne Clark.
I was flipping thru my vinyl I hadn’t touched in years and came across this album. Brought back great memories at the clubs in the 80’s. But it’s timeless and a masterpiece

You hear the first notes and at the same time feel the changes in you - you are feeling and thinking in the mid-eighties, in the midst of awesome people from the New Wave / Grufti scene at the time, the term Gothic came up later and you start to dance .. wonderful this one Feeling and the memories of the old school times - Rest in peace 🖤🍷
I remember now, back then hearing that track in a club (Cargo 198?) in Montreal trying later to buy a copy but no such luck. So good to hear maybe 40 years later? Long forgotten gem! I was a frustrated fan... Hope you are doing well Anne Clark!
When I was a teenager I made a mistake and bought a casette recorder from a thief. There was a casette of Anne Clarkes.I feel sorry to be a part of a crime but also happy to get the chance of knowing about Anne Clark.Otherwise I would never known her.

Though I do like and appreciate it when people are are progressing, changing, taking parts of themselves and rearranging, I still find this version way more appealing than the 90s-Remix. In my humble opinion, this version here is perfectly fitting in itself. Great track, Great Album whatsoever, especially the tracks by David Harrow =) !

Had to delete this from my playlist. It's too addictive! Can't anything done while I listen on repeat for 1 hour 😅
40 years old! 🤯
Unglaublich zeitloses Lied!
This band is from Germany??
@@abdelouahabbentata no, she is from London, but was very popular in Germany
I love the London accent. One of the best 80s songs. I bet the teens of today would love it - but it is NOT on the radio.
+Jörg Mehring
You're right. 19, and love it.
im 21, ive known this track since i was born and it is one of the best songs ever
They wouldnt like it cos nobodys rapping shit halfway thru the song
20 and on it 🤣🤣
a shame. an radio station with sense for this time and music, would catch us all.. without any research and usesless tries how to get listeners
Never gets old! Masterpiece.
As a sleeper in metropolis
You are insignificance
Dreams become entangled in the system
Environment moves over the sleeper:
Conditioned air
Conditions sedated breathing
The sensation of viscose sheets on naked flesh
Soft and warm
But lonesome in the blackened ocean of night
Confined in the helpless safety of desires and dreams
We fight our insignificance
The harder we fight
The higher the wall
Outside the cancerous city spreads
Like an illness
It's symptoms
In cars that cruise to inevitable destinations
Tailed by the silent spotlights
Of society created paranoia
No alternative could grow
Where love cannot take root
No shadows will replace
The warmth of your contact
Love is dead in metropolis
All contact through glove or partition
What a waste
The City -
A wasting disease
