One of the things I really like about certain RPGs (Risus, PDQ, City of Mist, etc.) related to this is how the character stats are mainly dependent on what they're called to differentiate them. It allows you to have characters with fictional disparity but not leave any one PC feeling inadequate in actual play. One person puts points into "Head Chef" while another does "Monster Slayer" and they're both equally viable.

Batman
For anime, I'd go with "Bastard Magic Instructor". The male MC has nothing special about him and his only real trumpcard is situational.
