It's PREPTOBER!!!! I'm so very excited for this year, and I have a ton of videos coming up on writing. Your Preptober Planners are coming this weekend, so make sure you're subscribed to my channel AND my email list. And don't forget to Go to my partner trymintmobile.com/heartbreathings to get premium wireless for as low as $15 a month.
This is the first nanowrimo that I'll actually be writing for and I'm so excited. I won't be finishing a whole novel, I'm aiming for like 20k words so like a couple chapters or something. I'm 17 with an idea that's been lurking since I was very young and I'm actually trying to pursue that specific idea now instead of pushing it off for others because it "wasn't good enough since it came from a child's mind."
I’m so very excited!!!!! I’m writing my second novel (first to work towards publishing) but it’s called Savannah and it’s an enemy to lovers office romance I had previously written out a screenplay script for it but I’m tweaking things and turning it into a novel. I’ve recently found my love for writing again, and I’m so excited to complete NaNoWriMo I tried last year but I was focused more on work and I became a little self sabotaging. I’m actually in a space now where I’m completely starting over I start a new job Oct 9th, relaunching my TH-cam channel Oct 1st. Following my life in becoming a indie author and balancing it all, while starting over at 36 and I’ll be going back to school to complete my degree in Creative Writing. It took me a while to get here mentally but I feel like my time has come and I couldn’t e more thankful to have someone like you in my corner!! You’re such an amazing soul. Can’t wait to see what’s to come!
I’m going to be working on my dissertation. I kept laughing every time you said “this isn’t for a college class” because, while technically, mine isn’t for a college class…it is for a Ph.D. Degree ;) Happy prepping to write everyone!
This will be lucky year SEVEN for me doing NaNoWriMo. I've won the past six writing fanfic, but this year I'm branching out into original fantasy, and I'm really looking forward to it.
I am making the switch to mint as soon as I pay off my phone with AT&T. They really get you with that "you can upgrade at anytime" even when you're upside down with your $1,000 phone. I love my Samsung Note, I don't need to upgrade again. I am way more prep'd for nano this year because I've used all your printable prep stuff and have my Happy Planner ready to go. The most useful prep things I use from your preptober are the math calendar, work count tracker, note card scenes using 3-act structure, and the character's inner journey for each character. You have these sheets that break down each act with opening scene, setting, allies, etc and ends with inciting event to key event....I found these SUPER helpful for pacing! I used to get stuck and lost writing Act II, but since I started using your sheets I have finally pushed through and resolved my entire story. I also made a mock-up book cover using microsoft publisher and put it on all my writing notebooks and you're right, it's inspiring! All the little things you share are very helpful to me, even the fun stuff you put on your desk to the things you keep in your bag show me there's no one way to write. Thank you so much for sharing the tiniest details! The folding keyboard is a great idea so I can write using my phone, any place, any time. I think Google docs is the absolute best way to write a book, just the fact that you can use it on any device and always pick up right where you left off and autosave is so convenient. Not to mention my beta reader can makes notes in real time as I write. I go back to your note card video where you set up the 3 act structure every time I start a new story. All this time I thought I was a pantser. Nope. I actually need an outline.
So glad those sheets have been helpful for you! I have a bit of a new take on them in the Preptober planner that breaks it down even more. I'll have a video coming up on that topic, that I hope you'll enjoy.
I absolutely love Mint! They provided free service at the start of the pandemic and that allowed me to still be able to contact family for almost 9 months, free. They've been such a blessing.
I am so here for the Preptober videos!!! ❤❤❤ I am being a bit of a NaNo rebel this year. I've got about a month left in the second trimester of my fifth pregnancy, which means I'll be losing that mid-pregnancy energy right about NaNo time. So I'm pushing to finish the first draft of my YA fairy tale retelling THIS month and utilizing the writerly vibes of NaNo to outline the rest of this series so that once baby is here I can jump into those new books. 😊
@@SallySueSaywhatagain That's awesome! 😊 I'm combining The Wild Swans by the Brothers Grimm and The Six Swans by Has Christian Anderson; one served as an excellent backstory for the evil queen character and the MC princess, and the other is serving as a bare bones plot for me to flesh out and add my own fun to. I love these lesser known fairy tales so much, I view my versions as less of retellings and more extended versions/epics of the originals. Doesn't always work 😄 I still have to change quite a few things so everything makes sense (and to avoid problematic material from the originals 😉)
@@joannaholden943 ooh, I love those stories!! Someday I'm going to write something about the youngest prince whose jacket wasn't quite finished and still has a swan wing going out and trying to break the rest of his curse... :)
I’m planning on writing a multi POV women’s fiction novel this Nano! I’m really struggling with plotting it right now, figuring out how to tell three separate stories in one. I’m looking forward to your new outlining video!
I’m not a writer at all, but your preptober and nanorimo videos always make me want to be! I might try some brain storming to see if I can get any ideas during your preptober series! Thanks for sharing and inspiring
I'm so excited for all of your Preptober content. Also really excited for your new serial, especially since I'm not much of a YA fan and much prefer NA and Adult!!
I just joined today and download the Preptober 2023 doc and other stuff from your library. Thank you for giving me a head start on getting organized to take my writing more seriously. Appreciate your sharing! 😊
I’m so excited to Nano this year it’s my first actual nano I’ve only ever done the camps due to one reason or another but this is the year I’m determined to do it this year. I’m starting book two in my series in October so I think I’ll be about 1/3-1/2 of the way though that so I’ll be working on that for the most part but if I finish that early on in the month or need more words to complete the 50,000 I’ll get started on book 3 as I’m planning for the first part of October to be plotting all the books in the series so I’ll be able to just go from one book to the next and I plan to edit all the books when I’ve finished rough drafting the entire series. ❤❤
Yay! PREPTOBER! Just one of the fun things I love about October in addition to spooky season...and my birthday. Yes, I am doing NaNoWriMo. I will be working on the horror novel I had planned to write over the summer. That didn't work out well. I sat down the other night and planned out my quarter in HB90, and now just have to get my Kanban board set up. I'm ready...let's do this! Loving your writing tools. Useful AND fun. Thanks for always providing us with awesome planners. 💜
I'm hyping myself up for nano this year and these videos really help. I've been dragging my feet plotting a romance between a robot and its pilot, I simply can't find the will to put butt on chair and work. But now it's preptober, so there's a whole community doing just that and we can cheer each other.
Sarra and Ryan Reynolds are basically besties is what I've seen here today 😄 🧡 ok but I'm SO EXCITED for you with that sponsor 👏 Happy Spooky Season and Writing Frenzy Season!! All the love and luck for words! 💜✨
I’m picking back up after a hiatus with my Kindle Vella: A Promise So Dark & Wicked! I’m also prepping for a VERY old concept (from when I was 15) called “Academy of Rock: The Last Song” a YA urban fantasy/music academy rom com with some teenage angst. I’ve set Wolf Moon: Book 3 of the Crescent Crown Saga to the third slot due to the upfront time investment in a novel (tho I’m happy that I’ve got a few sales this year in that series). I’m focusing on Kindle Vella in the short term to build readers and get paid a little more/faster as I’m building my brand. But as I recover from EBV I’m looking forward to tackling novels again :)
Yay!!!! This is the best time of year IMO and I'm so excited to print my preptober workbook! I shared this video with a friend who's trying NaNo for the first time this year. I encouraged her to join your mailing list for the resource library, too. I can't wait for TDOVS to come out, I'll definitely be getting a copy, it's one of my NaNo rewards for this year. I'm going to be drafting a new novel this year. The TDOVS tagline of "everyone having a reason to want Vanessa gone, including me" actually inspired my novel. I'm writing a murder mystery (no paranormal though) loosely based on the board game and movie, Clue. There will be subtle nods to the game, but you only know if you know. I'm so excited, and seeing you work through your process and timelines with TDOVS has been so helpful to how I'm plotting. Cheers to preptober, the inspiration, community, and all the fun stationary!
I love writing episodes. It gives you this rush of completing a project. 17k words. And done. It’s a rush. And then later I can put the episodes together to make one long novel and nobody ever knew I wrote it as “episodes”. Or I can release them as episodes if I want. It’s nice. :)
It's my first preptober and it will be my first Nano (I did do one camp this year) and I am SO EXCITED! I am so so happy to see you with such JOY about your new serial! Can't wait for all of the fun sprints. Now I just have to buckle down and make a decision on WHAT I am going to write!!!
This will be the first year I actually precipitate. I loved watching your videos last year and was inspired to try this year. I'll be working on a book I'm calling (for now) , the tears of Echo.
absolutely YES to nano this year! woohoo! this year i'm working on a horror novel set in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico during the week of Dia de Muertos festivities.
Super excited for Nano this year! Sarra, have you ever posted videos about how to plan and write a serial season? Do you do it in the same way you would a normal dynamic series? Thanks so much for this video, excited for the rest of prep-tober!
Soooooo excited for all the Nano content. I'm writing the first book in my new series and it is going to be a negative character arc which is really different for me but soooooo exciting.
5:44 I just realized the first Nanowrimo I did was 2006 or 2007. I journaled instead of writing a novel. It’s crazy how time flies I didn’t even realize it was that long ago!
i'm being a nano rebel this year and rewriting a story that i stopped writing a couple of years ago because the plot wasn't working. super excited to return to this story because i love the premise and the characters, i just need to fix the plot.
I SO want to do NaNo this year (I've been 3/3 winning) but started grad school. The Marketing class is consuming almost all my time. :( Maybe in 2 years! Good luck to everyone!
Hi Sarra, I’m excited. I am working on a novel based on the Descendants of Sanderson Sister’s from Hocus Pocus. The focus is on twin sisters who are polar opposites of each other like Sarah and her twin sister.
Thank you for sharing your tools! I saw a short where you packed your bag and I ended up getting that little folding keyboard right before a trip. It was excellent for my flights. I'll be travelling for the last week of NaNo and I know it’s going to come in so handy.
I'm so excited for you! I've been working on expanding my business and also my series, as people seemed interested in learning more of my protagonists' backstories. So excited, as my writing is a creative expression of my traumas. By adding five prequel books to the series, I'll have thirteen books by the end. I'm not doing Nanowrimo, though, as I have organization and a yoga certification to work on. Your videos inspire me a lot. Thank you. :)
First off, I’m so excited for you and your nano project!!!!! I’ll be participating with a fantasy piece. My MC doesn’t know how amazing she could be but she’ll be pushed to find out! I’ve been a nano participant multiple times and never even made it close but I’m so excited each time! It’s a creative jolt with amazing company!!!
Rooting for you, Sarra! For me, I’m finishing up book 3 in my Scottish fantasy romance series. And if there’s time left in the month, I intend to work on a prequel novella in the same world. Both will be released next year 🎉
I’m writing a brand new book almost every time I’ve attempted NaNo I was writing the same book, so I’m excited for something new! I’m hoping for it to be a feel good, cozy, autumn story about learning to overcome fears and surrounding yourself with good friends.
This is seriously the perfect timing because tomorrow I'm planning on starting to outline for my next book. I'm going to watch this first and get to planning. Thank you! :)
I watched this video for the first time last night during sprints with Jenna, and it was sooo hard not to talk about the new book you haven't announced yet. I wasn't sure who had or hadn't seen the video that is also a fan of your books so I made myself keep my mouth shut. I did facebook message with a friend of mine from HeartBreathings that had seen the video and knew about it all during sprints! LOL
I am so excited and scared as hell. I am writing my zero draft of my first novel. I don’t know what is going to come out but the first 13 pages have been written and I’ve gotten really good feedback so far. I’m scared but I’m doing it!
Very excited for Preptober, and looking forward to the workbook! Got my Spooky Season candles and tarot decks out this weekend - it's going to be so much fun! 🎃👻
Yay! I’m excited for your Preptober videos! I’m planning to do Nano this year (first time in 3 years) and making it on project for my Q4 hb90 plan 😂. I look forward to these videos from you every year ❤🎉
I am very exited for this nanowrimo! This will be the third year i will join it and i will try to write my first ever fantasy story. It will be a dark fantasy new adult trilogy. For this nano i will work on book one. A big challenge but i am so exited. This will be the first time i will try preptober :-)
I LOVE Soundcore! I've used their earbuds and over the ears for ages... taught from them, streamed from them, headbanged them off even... so they can withstand a drop. Seconding the Anker line for sure. And OMG.... that typewriter keyboard is BAE... did I just say BAE? Sarra.... I survived K12... and now.... I've lost the game at not saying BAE.... SIGH. lol Thank you for the glimmers in these videos and for all of the other ways you help to bring light to the world.
I'm actually going to focus on prepping this year. The last few years, while also stressful in my personal life, I didn't prep at all and thought that I could just pants my way through it. Yeah, no... so im going to start a new book that has been on my mind for a few years. It's a fantasy gods tragedyesque romance. It's mostly just to get back into the joy of writing, but I would like to publish it one day. I'm really excited!
I AM participating in NaNo AND in Preptober! In fact, I am heading up write-ins at my library, prepping during October and Writing during November! So excited. AND I am using some of your material, like the way you set up your writing calendar to figure out how to determine the actual words per day you need. I will, of Course, be sure to credit you and I am handing out your youtube info and encouraging people to look you up. Don't get too excited, though, I do not know how many people will actually come. If I get 2 or 3, I'll be thrilled. Anyways, Thanks for all you've done and shared.
I’ve decided to always use Nano as a time to work on one of the fun projects I always have rolling around in my brain but can’t ever really focus on. My current WIP is a sweet, small town romance series, so I’m going to get off the romance train entirely and write a cozy fantasy. It’s going to have a mystery element to it, but it will be” mystery light”….it won’t be a murder mystery, and it will be more straightforward than a typical cozy mystery with the relationships between the characters being the main focus. I created this fantasy world years ago and it will be fun to finally get to write a story contained within.
Is it a rom-cozy? I also did the romance, women's fiction bit last year and have shorts to finish but kicking off my cozy series is probably how I'll spend NaNo.
@@agl5132 Mine will introduce a very slow burn romance for my main character, but I think the main relationships in this one are going to be family oriented. I love cozy mysteries and I’ve always wanted to write one in a fantasy setting but my brain tends to trip up over all the clues and red herrings. So I’m hoping this one will be a gentle foray into that genre!
This is so great! I'm not participating in Nano but I'm stoked for all the future videos and Nano Dairies. Do you have any videos on how to write a serial? I've been mulling about doing something like that.
I think this is the only video I've done about it specifically but it might be a good place to start! th-cam.com/video/dwLQsiBOro8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=TwukjG0C9StEhnBD
I’ll be writing draft 2 of my book this year! This is my first NaNoWriMo, and I’m really excited - but I have a lot of Prep to do. Hopefully, I can get it done. Good luck :)
I will still be working on A Scorpion's Game, a little spy romance I'm writing. It's my experimental project for an author career restart as a full indie. I'm hoping to have it done and ready to roll out for Publish and Thrive. So stoked!
So excited and proud of you! Keep them videos coming…I need help deciding if I should start my new idea and PREP now….Or…Continue editing and be a NaNo Rebel. Maybe I will try your steps here to help me decide if I should start daydreaming about my new characters or not….HELP!!!!
I would say go back to your overall goals and your own personal creative joy. If there's something you are wanting to do with that book you're editing, think about whether it will still be on track to submit or publish by the time you wanted or not if you push it back. Do you feel creatively like you need a little break from it to get excited again? There's no right or wrong answer!!
I am so excited for Nano this year. I am in my final edits of book one of a series and want to start book two of my urban fantasy new adult series for Nano. I am working hard to get my edits done and start promoting book one, so book two can be my priority come Nov. 1st.
Guuuuurl, you’ve convinced me to try Mint. My phone is no longer under contract as of this past summer, and it’s still a ridiculously high bill. I’ve just researched how to unlock it from my carrier and checked to see that Mint is available for me. Now, back to the video. 😂
Hello! I'm so excited to discover your channel! As a beginner writer, I am unfamiliar with the "Magic" system you're referring to. Do you have a video explaining that? Thank you!
Welcome!! I was trying to think whether I had an actual magic system video or not, and I don't think I do so that's a good idea. I'll discuss it more on a world building video coming up! I might talk about it some on this video in my writing a series playlist: th-cam.com/video/wbxVUOefs4c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=S7mypbIwvv6so7vC
This is my first time participating. I've written several short stories but, I've been wanting to write a novel for a long time. I wrote a short story many years ago that was published in an anthology. I love those characters. That's what I'm writing in Nov.
*French speaker, sorry for the "spooky" grammar. I'll be participating in the preptober and the nanowrimo this year ! Since I am currently putting a lot of my energy into growing a mini human, I will not officially participate, but I'll follow you and this beautiful community through this channel. With work, school and the expanding belly, I'd like to achieve 10k in November. I'll be working on the first quarter of a psychological novel. Can't wait to start and follow your inspirational journey 😊
I'm torn about what to work on for NaNo this year. I have a draft started (because I have no chill when I'm excited about an outline!) that I could rebel!write ... but I also have a book 2 I'm planning on planning with some writer friends during Preptober that I expect will get me just as excited... Decisions, decisions!
So excited for NaNo this year! I want to work on something fun but I am struggling to develop the proper idea. I thought about a YA SF set on Mars (in the distant future), but that is so unlike anything else I write (dark academia & YA fantasy) that I am hesitant to work on something that wouldn't be in those two areas. I'm still debating what I should do there. But I thought it might be fun to write entirely on my iPad this year to see if it helps me stay focused while I am drafting....could be a great idea, could be disastrous. Anyway, loved to see your tools & tech and really looking forward to the next video!

Thanks so much for sharing the channel with a friend!!
And yay for the inspiration for your book. Can't wait to hear more
I love writing episodes. It gives you this rush of completing a project. 17k words. And done. It’s a rush. And then later I can put the episodes together to make one long novel and nobody ever knew I wrote it as “episodes”. Or I can release them as episodes if I want. It’s nice. :)
Cultivate the joy! Love the idea of a stepping stone to help you get back in the world.
Always enjoy Preptober! So much fun getting ready for NaNo!
absolutely YES to nano this year! woohoo! this year i'm working on a horror novel set in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico during the week of Dia de Muertos festivities.
Super excited that you’re going to do a mock cover short! ❤️😊
Thank you for always bringing me back to the excitement of writing! 📚📒📜
Super excited for Nano this year! Sarra, have you ever posted videos about how to plan and write a serial season? Do you do it in the same way you would a normal dynamic series? Thanks so much for this video, excited for the rest of prep-tober!
I talk about writing a serial in my Publish & Thrive course :)
Yay, A serial! Also,
you’ve inspired me to do Preptober! I’ve been in the biggest slump.
Thanks for the Preptober planner.❤
So excited for a new book in this world and loving the single point of view!!!
Soooooo excited for all the Nano content. I'm writing the first book in my new series and it is going to be a negative character arc which is really different for me but soooooo exciting.
Ooh that's so fun!
Thank God I'm not the only one doing Preptober. I had too much going on to do Preptember.
I can’t wait! Preptober is almost here!!!
Right there with you. 😊
Not sure I'll be taking part in NaNo this year, but I'll definitely be watching all your videos. Your enthusiasm and honesty always inspires me ❤
I’m a little late to the party, but I love preptober and I love following your journey over October and November. Right. Off to download my planner!
I SO want to do NaNo this year (I've been 3/3 winning) but started grad school. The Marketing class is consuming almost all my time. :( Maybe in 2 years! Good luck to everyone!
You're working toward something amazing though! Good for you for not piling on more than you feel is good.
I really want to tackle this cozy mystery idea I have, so I think that with Preptober I'll be ready to dive into Nano this year! Thank you, Sarra!
Yay that's awesome!! I love cozies!
I'm working on mine also. You can do it.
I love mine!
Thank you. :)
I’m going to start on my first suspense/thriller novel. I haven’t participated in Nano since 2016 so I’m excited to try again.
That sounds fun,!
Excited for NaNo this year, and glad I found you to help me prep.
Go for it! That's so exciting!!! Good luck!
This is seriously the perfect timing because tomorrow I'm planning on starting to outline for my next book. I'm going to watch this first and get to planning. Thank you! :)
I’m excited for A mirror of Shadows! And whatever you write! Good luck!
LOL
YAY, a new series!!!!! Super happy you are so excited about starting to write it!!
I am so excited and scared as hell. I am writing my zero draft of my first novel. I don’t know what is going to come out but the first 13 pages have been written and I’ve gotten really good feedback so far. I’m scared but I’m doing it!
So excited for nano, and your preptober videos!!
I really like the metaphor of trying on clothes for your advice on trying out different writing techniques. 🙂
Glad it was helpful!
Very excited for Preptober, and looking forward to the workbook! Got my Spooky Season candles and tarot decks out this weekend - it's going to be so much fun! 🎃👻
I'm so excited for preptober this year! also so excited to hear about you're working on both as a writer and a reader/fan
I’ll be participating for the first time! Working on finishing my second draft of my first novel!
Yay welcome to the nano club!
Yessss, it's time! This is my favorite time of the year content-wise because we get Preptober and Nano diaries weeeeeeeeeeee lol!
How exciting!!! Could you do a video on how to chose titles for a series and the books within the series please?
I actually talk about this in detail in my Publish & Thrive course!
I recently purchased the pink Bluetooth keyboard you have and love it. :)
Love the book title!
Ey! Sarra! That spin off serial sounds awesome, and I'm looking forward to Vanessa Shaw too!
Congrats on your first release!!
We have a write-cation coming up in November 👀 So excited!❤
Yessss. Fun!
I’m going to work on a serial this November! I’m super excited to hear that you are too!!
Woah what an announcement! I did not see that coming lol. Looking forward to watching all the Nanowrimo diaries.
I'm very excited for NaNo! I'm not sure if I'll be finishing the book I'm currently writing or starting a new one yet though.
I'm excited for nano this year. Going for my 2nd win! Love your set up, from one Samsung girly to another ;-)
Yes please do a video on why you don’t do MacBook Air anymore. Thanks
NaNo for me! It's my second time and I'm continuing the first draft of the novel I started last NaNo. Love the videos
I’m working on my first draft and am determined to finish it in October. I plan to rewrite/edit during Nanowrimo🎉
I'm going to work on a children's book! And I really like plotting the book so far☺️.
😂😂😂
I'm actually going to focus on prepping this year. The last few years, while also stressful in my personal life, I didn't prep at all and thought that I could just pants my way through it. Yeah, no... so im going to start a new book that has been on my mind for a few years. It's a fantasy gods tragedyesque romance. It's mostly just to get back into the joy of writing, but I would like to publish it one day. I'm really excited!
I'm sorry to hear you had some difficulties. It's important to try different methods, though, to really figure out what works for you. Keep at it!
That's awesome! I hope you have so much fun!
@@michellem7225 You'll do fine. Remember this is your first draft and you can add, delete and revise after.
Best of luck!!
I will still be working on A Scorpion's Game, a little spy romance I'm writing. It's my experimental project for an author career restart as a full indie. I'm hoping to have it done and ready to roll out for Publish and Thrive. So stoked!
So happy to see your excitement. You are glowing. Happy preptober
Ooooh, so excited for new characters 🎉❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
I literally rushed over when I saw that you uploaded this! Your Preptober stuff is awesome!!!
Aw that's so sweet! Thank you!
I love your new phone case! ❤ Do you by any chance have a link for it? Thanks! 💖
I got it from this store: www.etsy.com/shop/jamaecase/
Definitely take a look! The service for me has been exactly the same for so much lower price!
"Spooky Grammar" haha, I love it. And congratulations on your pregnancy! 10k would be wonderful!
Sometimes starting a new projects helps develop ideas for your existing WIP!
Yea im doing preptober and nanowrimo! Im doing a fantasy ✨️
