He was the first tenor who’s voice I fell in love with. I recall to this day a music lesson at school when the class were asked to name their favourite band: Queen, Blondie, etc came the replies. I just said Giuseppe Di Stefano and my classmates looked at me bemused
@andrewwild9815 I am in complete agreement. I once had a colleague in my car. Now if your in my car, you listen to MY music. When the music came on Di Stefano was singing! My colleague said "you listen to this stuff????" I said "yes! And I read books without pictures."
The most touching and delicate voice but at the same time virile and powerful. What a GREAT singer. Few compare to him in his prime. Never another like him will come our way again! Thanks God for his life and the fact that we are able to have his recordings! Grazie Pippo!!!!
Unico !!!!
Grazie Mille, Floria! Great to hear from you. Your father’s voice has brought me so much happiness and beauty over the years. I wish you the very best! Cari Saluti ☺️👍🏻
Thank you Floria! Your father is loved and appreciated by the people that really matter, true musical fans who hear and feel the beauty of your father’s performances.
I have most his recordings and the others I have downloaded from the internet, I play them often and never get tired of his wonderful voice, I also have a collection of Mario Lanza, I am 80 now and have listened to opera since when we could get La Scala broadcasts on our radiogram before I was a teenager.
This is a beautiful recognition of a wonderful singer, Vincent. It also rhymes perfectly with my own obsession with Di Stefano - the most generous of tenors, always worth listening to, even in old age when his voice was, well shot, basically, but still gorgeous to hear. At his 70th birthday party (great look in the white tux as well), and even later. One of the best high Cs as well - a world away from the squawks that some tenors produce. Many thanks, Tom (from France).
Many thanks for this, Vince. Di Stefano's fantastic interpretative gifts and irresistible personality just shine in this moving tribute. It was great to hear again too that incredible diminuendo he does on the high C on "Salut demeure chaste et pure." Today's lovers of Kaufmann and their ilk should also take note of Di Stefano's spot-on comments on what the *real* art of singing is! That beautifully phrased "Serenata Sincera" (which I'd never heard before) was a great choice to conclude with too, Vince.
The performance in that Faust aria in San Francisco gave me a whole new respect for his talent and I have always been and always will be my favorite singer of any genre of music.
Oh Wow, what a great tribute...and what a terrific channel!! I first discovered your work through your Mario Lanza tributes. I had been on a Lanza kick recently, and watching a lot of related TH-cam videos. I caught a couple of yours under "Recommendations", and really loved them! Now I see you also covered one of my other favorite tenors here. As expected, it is absolutely wonderful! Thank you, and keep doing what you do!!! PS-also REALLY enjoyed your own singing on the popular standard, "Beyond the Sea"! :-)
@Vincent Di Placido - You have managed to combine two of my favorite things - Giuseppe Di Stefano, the greatest tenor of the 20th century, and Technics - I was the Technics USA Product Manager from 1977 thru 1992. As to Di Stefano - I was privileged to attend the 100th centenary celebration in Trapani Sicily (July 2021). I was invited by his daughter, Floria, and it was one of the highlights of my life. Thank you for posting this tribute.
Breathtaking, Vince! I loved the bit about the diminuendo being a gift of nature rather than the result of study. That will assuredly have the snobs reaching for their smelling salts. Hahahahaha!
@vincent di placido. First I must congratulate you on your choice of opera exerp for they display with candid ferveur the wonderful artist that was Giuseppe di Stefano. I have been waiting along time to see and hear such tribute. I thank you so much for sharing your passion with us. God bless, be safe.

I had the good fortune of visiting Giuseppe at his vacation house at Diani beach in Kenya, we would sit around his pool which was incorporated into the terrace & talk opera and local politics this was in the late 90's, he sang for me (with a very strong voice!)
Thank you! When I sat down to lay out this video and this “Serpico” opening popped in my head, I was ecstatic and everything else just flowed and fell into place!
"Pippo" di Stefano ruined early his voice by singing the wrong parts too early. I was together with my teacher Frannceso Carrino, who was also the teacher of Carlo Bergonzi, when Pippo phoned to him in Düsseldorf where Pippo gave a concert. Old Carrino sent him a high C through the phone. I was in this concert in the Rheinhalle in Düsseldorf. Pippo sung nearly everything transposed down. This is nearly 60 years ago. A few years later Pippo sung Rodolfo in Munich. Che gelida mania he sung also transposed down. I saw the notes on the music stands of the musicians via binocular.
Dear vincent you have done it again ,Great work Tears all the way ,A great joy,I sang along , Thank you love you vincent Bless you , Baci Caro , xxxxxxxx
I have followed you for years because I am a fan of Lanza. I heard him sing in For The First Time in 1959 at a drive-in in Puerto Rico. While living in NYC my daughter’s piano teacher Mrs. Dubois, retired from Juilliard’s School. She told me: “ I heard you playing Lanza and Corelli LP records; listen to Di Stefano”. and lent me a LP of him. I didn’t play it much because Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras were all over the radio and TV air waves. Eventually he became a favorite of mine also. Thank you for keeping me hooked to heavenly music for so many years.

How marvelous, how gorgeous, how organically handsome... there are many grand voices, only one Pippo... one and only!!!

Giuseppe Di Stefano one of the best 2 Tenor’s that ever lived and for a Sicilian he sang Neapolitan songs better than anyone RIP Maestro Pippo 🕊️🙏
Centenary for Di Stefano, Lanza and Corelli! Probably, the tenors' centenary, plus 100 years from Caruso's death!
Thank you, dear Vinc.
1921 the year of the tenor. We lost Caruso. We heard the first notes of Lanza Corelli and Di Stefano.

Thanks Derek! It made me very happy putting this together, lovely memories for me of listening to Pippo growing up.
They will never take notice: this bunch is full of narcissism and arrogance. They don't know what is a natural singing.
The performance in that Faust aria in San Francisco gave me a whole new respect for his talent and I have always been and always will be my favorite singer of any genre of music.

Thank you 😊
Vince, sublime.
Jan Peerce told me nobody at the Met. could come near GDS live singing his diminuendo.
Sublime, inarrivabile.
