If the sound around 20 minutes in gets fixed can someone reply and tag me so I can come back and watch it? I can't make out more than a few words once the music gets loud.
I just came into the comments to report a massive editing error at 21 minutes, I thought something had fired off on my computer. Simon is completely inaudible, this needs a reuploa,
You guys really need to work on your audio mixing. The music at the end is so loud that it almost completely drowns out Simon's voice. This is becoming a persistent problem across numerous channels
Starting at 20:27 there is loud music that drowns out Simon making it extremely difficult to hear him. Probably best to re-edit so this is gone or MUCH quiter as it makes the video mostly unwatchable for several minutes.
That was really interesting until about 20 minutes in. At that point the music becomes three times louder than the dialogue. Made it unwatchable. Talk to your editors because that's ridiculous.
As good as your videos are, your editor seriously has to watch how loud his background music is, as your voice audio gets inaudible once it gets to the outcome of Korolev's stomach condition.
I was surprised to learn that the Soviets were actually more concerned about redundancy than the USA was, they wanted a full lander and return craft to be landed unmanned on the moon first so that their crew would have a backup plan to get them home if something went wrong with their lander. They didn't actual see the point of a manned mission to the moon other than to be first to return their hero safely. Once they lost that race, they immediately pivoted into sending their already developed remotely operated rovers which did far more science than their manned mission had ever planned for.
@@heavyartillery-qm5hu Ya I didn't get the impression they were concerned about preserving human life, just about not being embarrassed by the Americans.
Aside from the super-loud "background" music, Simon's audio is kinda terrible. Did Simon's usual mic cut out and he didn't notice? I have a vague memory of something like that recently. I would absolutely watch this again if it's all fixed and re-uploaded.
My parents watched the moonlanding on tv in the middle of the night. As a space nerd this must have been absolutely insane. As a kid at school we watched the SPace Shuttle launch on tv...school stopped to see Space Shuttle launched 👍
The U.S. having seperate engines for ascent and descent on the Lunar Module was safer than the Soviet LK usage of one engine for both. Landing has a risk of an uneven surface crunching the nozzle, or debris kicked up by a descent damaging the nozzle. Either case would leave you stranded. Incidentally, Apollo 15 (America's 4th landing) did crunch their LM descent nozzle. Since it was no longer needed, there was no issue. Also, it was designed to crumple too.
1 day. The Soviets were going to launch 4 men to the surface of the moon on July 17, 1969. The Americans did it the day before, so the Soviets said, "F*ck it", and canceled their program.
I haven't heard, but that would have required at least two successful N-1 launches, a test flight and the lunar flight, and probably more for test flights in between (NASA had a total of six Saturn V flights before Apollo 11) and I think the Americans would have noticed
The N1 was a very flawed concept. The N1 1st stage had 30 engines. The Saturn 5 had 5. Making 5 engines work together is a lot easier than making 30. That's the reason the Space X Super Heavy has been so problematic. It has 33 engines and still has not completed a successful soft landing the way it's designed.
My favorite space race thing will always be NASA spending huge $$$$ on developing a 'space pen' that could write in zero gravity... The soviets? They said "just use pencils."
This is a myth, IIRC NASA's pens were developed independently and offered to them. Also (again IIRC) pencils are risky in space partly because they're flammable and partly because they create small graphite particles,
Before giving props to the USSR just keep in mind that many of their citizens were starving and living much worse than westerners. And then the USA just completely dunked on them.
The loud music has to be intentional by this point there's no way these people are that incompetent.... Maybe it's their way of trying to get you to pay for their Patreon based upon their replies from previous videos.
Between 20:29 and 22:40 I have no clue what you said Simon because the music overpowered what you was saying. Keep up all the good work I love all your videos.
i...think you need to re-master your sound... for those of hearing impairment, you kind of just wiped out the entirety of the portion where music plays.. its like panning away from someone speaking in a room in a movie, with their voice hanging in the background still while someone takes a call thats super devestating..
I hope that this video gets re-posted with fixed audio. It is a shame that this fantastic work is so marred by the sound that most of the comments are about its that.
Simon you should reupload this incredible interesting video with better sound editing. The music is way, WAY to loud at certain points (around 21:00 e.g.)
That music was waaaay to Loud. Couldn't finish the video like that. Barley heard what you said and had to use subtitles (which were not written, even in english)
I feel like the editor sent the project for upload before he was done because besides the music getting too loud later the audio quality is just crap in general
I love you all and the work you do but you desperately need to find someone to properly mix the audio or just get rid of the background music outright. It is far too loud in many videos not just this one.
Apollo 8 DID NOT land on the Moon! (as you pronounced at elapsed 25:00) Wth? I also have severe reservations about the USSR having refined docking and space walking, which they may have accomplished, but there's been no published evidence of whether they did this in a haphazard way (as was the case with Alexi's first, nearly fatal episode) or whether they truly were able to accomplish both scenarios with precision and flawlessness. DOUBT IT!!!

Man that music got waaaay too loud
This is a psychological trick used to drive comments so Algo promotes the video. Simon hacked your mind. Pretty F'd up he'd do that to you.
I stopped watching at that point, I couldn't hear what was being said.
Please fix the music and reupload. I was captivated until that point!
Came here to say that
It's only loud from 20:30 - 22:40, then it's normal again.
The sound mixer was inattentive for a while during this video, which was mentioned by previous commenters. WTF?
slip ups happen mate lol
@@judah7162 let's pretend we're in aeronautics and learn from prior mistakes so they stop happening
What's this new trend of adding in loud music at the end of these videos? Please stop drowning out the narration.
The sound mixing makes it hard to understand Simon after around 20 minutes in.
Note to the editor: from 20:00 onwards the narration disappears behind the music. Makes it unwatchable.
Totally unwatchable / I wanted to finish I but had to bail
About twenty minutes in the sound goes quite a bit loud on the background music.
I just came into the comments to report a massive editing error at 21 minutes, I thought something had fired off on my computer. Simon is completely inaudible, this needs a reuploa,
@@muxerbaker4638 Interesting. I have heard this on several videos of Simon's recently. I thought it was an error on my audio system
Yes very loud. Maybe worth a re-upload, it's only been a few hours
Rumor has it when a Soviet was asked why they lost the space race he commented. "Thier Nazi's where better than our Nazi's."
It's common sense that people would want to live in the USA than Russia at any point in time. Civil war included.
Von Braun went out of his way at the end of WWII to surrender his team and V2 hardware to the Americans.

It goes away at 22:45. 🙂

Still, that is a good reason to remake this video.

20:26 quiet Simon 🤫 I can barely hear the background music
@20 minutes in the music is to loud to really understand what Simon is saying.
Yeah wtf is that factboy
Hey starting around 21:00 the music gets so loud is hard to hear Simon.
You guys really need to work on your audio mixing. The music at the end is so loud that it almost completely drowns out Simon's voice. This is becoming a persistent problem across numerous channels
Loud audio over the speech 2/3 of the way into the video
What happened to the mix 20 minutes in? The music completely drowned out the commentary.
You know the music is louder than your talking.
21:35 music is way too loud and drowning out everything Simon is saying here
I'll wait for the reupload with fixed audio to watch the last 15 minutes or so.
@22:00 can’t even hear what you are saying over the music
Just letting you know the music volume is almost as loud as those tv show clips that make up the mass of shorts.
Starting at 20:27 there is loud music that drowns out Simon making it extremely difficult to hear him. Probably best to re-edit so this is gone or MUCH quiter as it makes the video mostly unwatchable for several minutes.
Must have used a soviet sound mixer used on this video.
WTF, who did the mixing on the background music drawing out the dialogue?
I stopped watching at the 21 minute mark, as I couldn't understand what Simon was saying over the loud music.
20:28 Your background music volume cranks up so much I can't make out what you're saying.
Please fix the BGM around 20ish minutes, you can barely hear him.
That was really interesting until about 20 minutes in. At that point the music becomes three times louder than the dialogue. Made it unwatchable. Talk to your editors because that's ridiculous.
Music starting at 20:28 is really loud and completely unnecessary. Did you listen to it back?
Did anyone else notice the loud music?
I didn't know such nice music could be as distracting as heavy metal.
They couldnt even put a woman on Stalin... if they had, he wouldn't have been so uptight.
25:13 I don't remember Apollo 8 landing on the moon.
Me neither! 🤔
Bit before I was conceived, and 11 just around that 😉🖖
The music was on purpose to distract people from the number of times they referred to Apollo 8 as both Apollo 10 and 11.
22:19 what did u say, i can't lip read
The music becomes *_WAY_* too loud starting at around 20:28.
The music about halfway through is way too loud
Music is almost to loud to hear you at the end.
The music starting at 20:22 drowned out Simon, forcing me to stop watching.
As good as your videos are, your editor seriously has to watch how loud his background music is, as your voice audio gets inaudible once it gets to the outcome of Korolev's stomach condition.
The "background music" set too loud to hear the speaker starting around 21:05.
The background music track at 20:29 , was WAY too loud and overpowered the narration. Hopefully you can fix it and re-upload.
20 mins in the background music takes over you’re voice
What is going on with the audio balancing??
At 25:15, Apollo-8 was the first to go around the Moon, 11 first landed.
The audio mix at 20mins got quite out of hand.
Fire your sound guy. The music was drowning out your narrative for a while. 😕

So that guy spent 6 years in prison starting 1938 and got out in 1939. Ok then
If I was the first person to set foot on the Moon, I would have said: “Hey! What did I just step in?”
Anyone hear about the theory that the Soviets DID get to the moon first, but the cosmonauts died while on the surface, and it was covered up.
