It looks awsome. Never got the pealing paper look on my vases but I did tap them with the handle of a wooden spoon to get some of the authentic horizontal line texture. It should work with cakes too.
I use a white chocolate ganache under the fondant. I let the ganache set overnight if I have the time, otherwise, a few hours will suffice. Condensation is not a huge problem for me, as I live in a dry climate. The icing will sweat a little, but dries quickly.
