      This game is highly appreciated by Japanese players!
      I think it's not only because of the story, but also because of the detailed and realistic representation of the historical background, swordplay, costumes, beautiful scenery that feels like Japan even to Japanese eyes, and even the difficult-to-express Bushido.
      (Also the animals are cute lol)
      I can't believe that this was made by an American studio, it's so wonderfully perfect.
      In my personal opinion, I like not only Jin and the characters who become his allies, but also his enemy, Khotun Khan, who is a brutal but powerful and wise warrior.

      As a German, after playing this game, I have spotted many similarities between the German history and the Japanese history, they are different cultures but at the same time the history is almost like looking into a mirror, it's terrifying and cool at the same time and I'm not only talking about only the WW2 era i'm talking about the full history of both of the countires, how both of them defeated an empire who tried to conquer them, how they were split in different states, how they spent centuries uniting, i think this is... idk how to describe it

    i like how the history professor understands that the game is less of a historically accurate drama, and more of an homage to period dramas and samurai cinema. that's why he doesn't mind the anachronistic elements like the hwacha that appear 70 years too early, or the armor that appears an entire era too early, so long as it evokes the overall feel of samurai cinema, and brings awareness to each of those elements, even though they're time displaced.

    That professor is so enthusiastic and excited to see things in the game, it got me to thinking there might be a lack of variety/authenticity of the Japanese middle ages in the media as a whole? If so, Sucker Punch really filled that spot.

      it's interesting to think but eastern middle ages is largely ignored when there was so much development and battles to base media on. i mean, dynasty warriors is based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms but there was A LOT happening in china even into the 20th century, before Mao even.
      i think westerners just lack the history and awareness of the east and when so many devs are based in the west it's just something that isn't seen often enough, but what Sucker Punch is doing can help change that.

      the professor doesn't even care that much that there are elements from other time periods, like more futuristic armor showing up in the game. the professor is just glad that the games puts a spotlight on those elements and makes them look cool. i think in his mind: interest > accuracy. he's probably thinking, so long as the students get interested in the subject, I can come in later and say which time period this weapon or this armor actually came from. what's important is that we get more students in classrooms.

    • @idleeidolon
      @idleeidolon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      a lot of japanese media/games like to focus on the sengoku jidai, or warring states period, that's roughly equivalent to the renaissance period in the west. a time guns were used longside cavalry, spears, and swords. very few media focus on the kamakura period, the time of knights in the west, and mongols across asia. this game really did fill a niche.

      @@2yoyoyo1Unplugged There are honestly so many Japanese games that make games with western style settings. The question is if they are based on real life historical events, and how much are those games historically accurate. Take that into account and it will certainly be rarer. But generally, most games have some western elements to it. Japan has already been westernized since Meiji restoration so it's hardly surprising to see western influence in everyday Japanese life, and that naturally means games, too.
      For western games, I don't know much that has East Asian settings. They're def on the rarer side regardless if they're based on real life events or not.

    The small Mongol bow was OP as hell, actually. It had a double recurve, and also the first composite bow in history, so it's draw weight was comparable to much taller traditional bows. Even the people of Central Asia/the Middle East, who had fought in the mounted archer tradition since before the time of the Roman Empire, had trouble effectively resisting them. Nomadic Steppe people have been widely feared/respected as some of the best warriors since antiquity.

I mean, imagine spending your entire career researching a period of time and putting together the imagines in your mind of how those warriors and their Zeitgeist might have looked like based solely on historical written records... and then see it come to life in a game like this❤️
    I was surprised to learn that the Samurai back then used to work on a similar reward system (promised lands) as the German Ritter in Feudal time. I'm researching this for a novel WIP and, for what I hear the professor say, the Samurai also used to get lands from their liege in return of their loyalty and defense. The many medieval castles in Germany were built by Ritter with money from their lords. They used to have one or several villages of farmers under their command to work the land and they had to give the Ritter up to the 30% of each harvest. In return, the Ritter was responsible for their housing and protection.
    I just finished playing Ghost of Tsushima and I'm now with the EP Iki Island. It's a masterpiece. Nothing less can be said. I strongly recommend it. It's quite a journey. I've taken so many screenshots because the game is so photogenic and breathtakingly gorgeous. Congrats to Suckerpunch for this work of art! I really hope Sony doesn't screw up the film adaptation and that they respect the original cast of actors for each role🙏

    • @hagoromootsutski9058
      @hagoromootsutski9058 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@kaybee2286 Hate to say it, but I think that's a terrible idea. Tomoe's side quest was probably the weakest in the game because of its ending. And Tomoe is a survivor, she has no cause to fight for, and I didn't like how her character chalked up all her crimes to her 'need to survive', as if that's excusing her of betraying Tsushima and slaughtering innocents.
      The most logical thing to do is continue following Jin; potentially seeing him creating the clan of Shinobi/Ninja, with its own beliefs and rules; it's own creed. Because we are all so emotionally invested in his story and character, it doesn't make sense to ditch him in favour of some other character.
      This way, the sequel will be able to retain its "samurai" aspect whilst further expanding on the "Ghost" gameplay (more stealth mechanics, more weapons), as Jin tries to further refine the 'Way of the Ghost' and recruits people to his clan.

      Samurai clan armor and gosaku (older armor) are the correct in the time period and that's about it. Kamukura is so old that weak armor are destroyed except for the preserved o yoroi exhibit so there wasn't much variation recorded. That's the only armor you can get if you follow historical accuracy and it's not fun. Tachi is accurate in the game in terms of size and curvature except it is named Katana and bow is just bow.

      @@valeriansage no that’s wrong, the samurai clan armor is Sengoku period and the gosaku armor is not that great, the swords in the game are only katana there’s no tachi, the tachi is a long more curvy sword worn upside on a hip belt used on horseback, like i said it’s a great game but not accurate at all.
