    Still the standard after 4 decades. The blend knob is bliss.

    Proud SansAmp owner and I love this video for its simplicity and clarity on what the pre-amp is capable of among other things.

    Ive just bought one of these fantastic pedals after watching this superb demo/tutorial.
    Fantastic video showing what this pedal is capable of doing. And as a bonus, not a slapped bass line in sight!

    I was never a huge fan of SansAmp preamp/DI pedals. They always had too thin a sound for my ears. And now there are so many manufacturers making preamp/DI combos because of the slow shift away from stage amps to IEM setups. Btw, love your vids. This is the way you demo gear. No talking and get right to the sounds. I hope you do some more preamp/ DI demos! These pedals are getting way more popular now

      If a SansAmp sounds too “thin” for your ears, get them checked…. They’re the opposite of thin sounding. They thicken up my sound a lot.

    I’m new to bass, coming from a few years of playing guitar. If I have this, a bass, and a good set of headphones am I all set to play? I’m trying to avoid getting an amp as I live in an apartment and don’t want any angry neighbours.

    • @TheEldorado1991
      @TheEldorado1991 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Pretty much yes since these Sansamps have their own built in pre-amp, but you'd also need some kind of audio interface USB hub to route the sansamp and instrument into your computer/laptop from the I/O interface! Other than that and some kind of DAW software to record like Ableton Live (which I personally use) and then you should be good and ready to play direct-in! I use a Focusrite myself for my I/O interface hub but there's all kinds out there. Presonus isn't bad for the price if you're looking for something on the cheaper end as well.

    Just ordered the ampeg scr-di, and my sansamp is out the door. Not being able to use the preamp of the bddi, and then kick on the overdrive with a switch, is a terrible thing. No one wants to bend over and turn the gain knob mid song.

    • @Hattrick249
      @Hattrick249 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Im sure the ampeg preamp is awesome but man hitting the input of a sansamp pretty hard with a boost/overdrive pedal is tough to beat in my opinion. I use a ehx bass soul food for this and it’s glorious. Throwing a rat style distortion in between them is even better when you really want to rock out.

      @@Hattrick249 I sold all of them, and picked up a Tonex Amp Modeler. My tone has never been better. Although I miss the collection of pedals, this is too good to pass up.

    What's the point of turning the level up and down? That skews the comparisons.

    • @BassStuff
      @BassStuff  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am always trying to level match everything to keep the volume the same at all times. Level matching is absolutely crucial when comparing audio sources. I try to do it live when filming my videos but I also do stuff in post to keep the LUFS steady as possible.
      Our brain tends to always prefer louder sounds. Because of that, even just 1db louder can totally skew a comparison. That's why almost all plugins now have a level match feature.
      I found that article if you are interested in learning more about that:
      www.sweetwater.com/insync/level-matching-demystified/

    • @BassStuff
      @BassStuff  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Any transformation you do to the sound like EQ, drive, compression, etc... Have a huge impact on volume. Pretty much anything you touch on a pedal will change the loudness and perceived loudness of what is going through.

    • @NelsonMontana1234
      @NelsonMontana1234 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BassStuff Exactly, which is why turning the volume up and down will make it harder to hear those differences. IMO at least.

    I know it says 'sans' amp...but is it common to run these as a pedal into an amp? Or are they mainly used D.I?

    • @pd4165
      @pd4165 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have a version with six memories (very useful in a covers band) and can use it in a variety of ways.
      I can go into the front end or the effects return of my amp (according to taste) or can use it as a DI when amps aren't allowed on stage. It's a perfectly adequate DI in any of those scenarios - and it works out that I don't even have to get into a fight with the engineer to get a sound I like going to FOH.
      The unit has a choice of output to suit every (every normal) situation so it's great to have in your leads bag to get you out of trouble if you use a traditional amp rig, as long as the PA can cope with a bass going through it.

    • @scottkretsch4887
      @scottkretsch4887 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just ordered one of these. I plan on using it both ways- as a pedal to my amp rig, but also as a DI straight to a board without an amp on stage. But you said something that caught my attention; memory presets function. I play in a cover band and I can see how having multiple presets would be very useful. I mean, who wants to be bending over on stage fiddling with the knobs before and after every other song? I didn’t think about that. What unit do you have or suggest that has a memory preset function?

    • @meisenman
      @meisenman 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When I go to jams that provide a backline amp, I use my SansAmp VT DI (similar to this pedal) to get “my sound”. If the amp has an effects loop, I plug it into the effects return. If no effects loop, I flatten the EQ (knobs at 12 o’clock) and use the front input.
      When I go to band rehearsals, I use the SansAmp instead of bringing an amp. I connect the DI to the PA system and use phantom power to power the unit (saves battery).
