Ash Hardell i am trying to figure myself out, because i have identified as trans female in the past but as of recently i have been feeling differently, is it normal to keep thinking about yourself and is it okay to be a trans woman but still masculine
i really like the dialogue in this video, it gave me a perspective on how important it is for some people. I identify as a cisgender bisexual woman and I can't image hating your chest, and just as I typed that I realised how incredibly privileged that sounded. What I am actually trying to say, is that I really appreciate how open you are being about gender and the struggles with body image.
I've been documenting my top surgery recovery on Instagram and a lot of cis people have expressed very similar sentiments. I find it eye-opening as a trans person to see how cis people view these things, how they react and the internal process of discovery and empathy or understanding happens when we do share these stories, experiences, thoughts, and feelings. Of course, not all cis people are as accepting as this, but it's always appreciated when you do see cis folks who actually take it in and make the effort to understand.
Yeah. I'm kind of ambivalent. They're weird, and inconvenient, and I get the feeling that they don't need to be there. But I don't feel strongly about it, so hmm.
memeschronicles I'm trans ftm and I'm saving up for a binder. Currently, I have thirty-five dollars and I'm going to buy it this summer once I get enough for shipping and tax :')
Is this considered dysphoria? I feel like I shouldn't have boobs. It's not tied to my gender identity or sexuality, I'm a cis lesbian who's actually pretty femme. But I look at my boobs and it just feels weird that I have them, like I'm not supposed to have boobs. I've felt this way as long as I can remember and I'm trying to explain to the best of my ability what it is I feel but it's hard to put into words.
Sorry I can't help answer your question but why don't you just try a binder (or a sports bra if you haven't tried that) you can get different levels of compression & different sizes, so you could even try a size up so it is not as tight... Just to see if it makes you happier with your appearance.
Sammy Ariel Thank you for your suggestion. Sports bras don't really help. I think I'm going to look into a binder. I might just try to be happy the way I am. I'll see where life takes me.
If you want a comfortable binder I would go with gc2b. I've tried most all the brands and this is the only one that's come close. Dysphoria can be categorised a few ways but if you think having a reduction or removal would make you happier and more comfortable in your body there's absolutely no reason to not look into it.
Wow that was super helpful! I feel like most videos about top surgery are mainly about the idea of it but don't explain the process or anything. This video was extremely informative and actually covered a lot of things (like nipple sensation, recovery, etc.) that one would want to know before getting top surgery. Thanks so much!
Alexander Camelton don't be guilty at all! top surgery isn't a trans-only thing, nor do people who are trans get offended by others that get it for a different reason. If you aren't happy with your chest it's fine to change it, doesn't matter if you're transitioning or not
Who cares? You don't have to be trans to not like/want breasts. Your feelings about your body are valid and you have every right to pursue any path that leads to you being happier and more comfortable. Don't let anyone make you feel differently, even trans people.
Ok Ash. I think it's pretty funny how I used to watch your videos many years ago when I was in elementary school when I was straight, cis, and had many friends and no worries, like little kids are... Your channel was still Heythere005, and I thought your videos were so funny and relatable and just great- normal videos like Q and As with friends on helium. Now, like 7 or 8 years later, I found your channel again, and you and I are actually going through some of the same things. I'm bi/pansexual and am feeling body dysphoria and am unsure about my gender and gender expression, et al. I just thought it was strange and funny and awesome that we both changed our style in similar ways over a period of time.
That gene Grace was talking about in the beginning of the video runs in my family too. I've already been thinking a lot about getting top surgery to alleviate chest dysphoria and the chest pains I've suffered from for 2.5 years. Thanks for making this video, Ash. It was very informative.
this really helped me I'm agender and I hate my boobs and have gender dysphoria about them I'm young and currently have a binder that I love but I would love to get top sugery when I'm older
Just out of curiosity- Do you guys think breast implants are a fair comparison to having top surgery? In my mind both surgeries come from the same place of not liking or not identifying with your body and then choosing to do something about it to either enhance your own self confidence or assist you in feeling more comfortable within your skin. Thoughts ?
I think if the women has no breasts, or is nearly completely flat then yes is is the same. However for the women who have regular sized or just a little smaller breasts then I do not think it is the same thing. Top surgery for trans guys is not just about feeling better but also about representing who you are.
Would you not agree that increasing your breast size would ultimately be doing the same thing ? If you wanted to be more feminine and that's the image you wanted to portray to society by getting implants ?
Basically, if men and women were apples and oranges (going binary for simplicity's sake), sure, some oranges would look in the mirror and think they're too small, too big, or too oddly-shaped of an orange...but then there are a few rare apples who look in the mirror and, to their horror, see an orange staring back instead. To me, that is the difference.
Laura Judd I don't believe theyre similar at all. Women who get breast implants generally do so to enhance their appearance. As that is a purely cosmetic surgery. Whereas transgender men have the medical condition Gender Dysphoria which is the extreme discomfort with their secondary sex characteristics. Transgender men bind their chest with something similar to a compression shirt, to give them the appearance of a male chest. Binding your chest is pretty uncomfortable and limiting. I have been binding for almost 3 years. Its a pain in the ass, but I have such extreme discomfort not wearing the binder. Because of this, I can't go swimming, and don't feel comfortable wearing just a tshirt in front of anyone. So really, I think top surgery and breast implants are entirely different.
Okay, I see what you're saying, thanks for clearing it up ✌️ And also, I'm really sorry you have to go through that Leon, I hope everything works out for you.
I'm officially 4 months post-op for my top surgery and it was the best thing ever for me, I hope everyone in the comments who's hoping to have it, get too also
ahhhhhh! can't believe that some of my favorite youtubers collabbed! i really love this conversation about top surgery, it was so good and all of you were hella cute, ok bye
I love all of you guys so much. I love this video so much. I think it's so cool and brave that you guys are ok with talking about this kind of stuff. ❤
In Massachusetts (in the US) you can get top surgery covered by insurance so the cost of it is basically whatever your hospital copay is. It's a bit of a process but not spending the $5000-10000 is worth it for a lot of folks.
This video has really really educated me on and clarified a lot for me. I'm not quite sure where I sit on the gender-spectrum, but I've been having these massive waves of dysphoria lately, which have been difficult to deal with, and for at least two years I've known that I want to have top-surgery, or at least some form of breast reduction because I feel so so so detached from my chest. This video means everything to me, to have heard some of this whole process explained really helps me in trying to figure out what to do in my future.
I've read that T-anchor is more likely (though not 100%) to preserve nipple sensation because they don't completely remove your nipples.. but I think they'll almost always be pretty numb after surgery for awhile (sometimes up to a year) from what I've read about surgery. I'm pretty sure I want T-anchor for that reason (can't have the kind with almost no scarring unfortunately :/)
This was such an amazing thing to see after some hard shit at home. I just got this notification and once I finished the video I had the biggest smile on my face... I'm subscribed to Ash (obviously) and Alex and it was just really great thank you for this you beautiful human beings.
Ash, thank you so much for bringing up the chest issue. I love it that you and Grace are so cool about having top surgery even though you do not identify as trans. I am blessed with a small chest but I often think how it would look flat. I am not trans, I think, so it is wonderful to see other lesbians talking about top surgery.
as a breast cancer survivor with a double mastectomy I cannot stress this enough: THINK! Think very, very hard before you go forward to remove completely healthy breasts. It will change not only your body, but also your life. I do not feel "whole" without them and everytime I look at those two scars I feel shitty. It's the same the other way round (probably): If looking at your chest makes you feel bad and you have the feeling you are not you WITH them, go for it and be happy! But please, be absolutely sure about it. It can be tough. Hope you get my point....anyway, you are all wonderful! Grace, you got this! xx from Germany
Sammy Ariel Given her main statement was "Think very, very hard before you go forward to remove COMPLETELY HEALTHY breasts", I am pretty sure she is commenting in relationship to people like Ash. People who would have no real medical reason to remove their breasts. Relating it back to her, someone who didn't have a choice, own experiences with loosing her breasts. A message of: you may not realize how lucky you are to have what you have. So think long and hard before permanently removing something you do not have to get rid of. Nothing she said had anything to do with the subject of reconstructive surgery. I have no idea where you got that. As for the rest of your comment, you come off extremely rude. Someone can have all the support in the world and be informed, yet not be okay with the final out come because they had no choice in the matter to begin with. For example, if someone really close to you dies, are you going to be happy about it? No. Even if you knew about it and had a lot of friends to talk about it with, are you going to happy? No, but you will have to just accept it in the end because there is nothing you can do about it.
StillLife33 Well, Ash HAS a real medical reason for a top surgery: gender dysphoria. That is a medical thing. But I think Ash's gonna think about it really hard anyway.
StillLife33 This is exactly what I meant, thank you! Sammy Ariel I intentionally did not want to touch the topic of reconstruction because it is complex and very subjective. Anyway: I am thinking about getting surgery, but at the moment, it is simply not possible. It is not as if you walk into the hospital, grab some silicone and walk out a few hours later with some nice D-Cups. It is a complicated and painful process, which my immune system cannot put up with at the moment. Furthermore, there are tons of methods (silicone, lipofilling....). One more thing...please don´t try to tell me about people with cancer genes ;)
Lua You do not feel whole without them but other people don't feel whole WITH them. It's not as straightforward as "healthy" vs "unhealthy" breasts when it comes to transgender and gender disphoria.
Just watching all of your videos makes me more confident and comfortable with my decisions and I can always turn to your page if I need any help with stuff so thank you Ash.
I love love love how Jake explained the concept of bodies not always being seen as a gendered thing. As genderflux and a gender non-conforming person, I definitely feel more comfortable with androgyny, but other than my boobs and hair I haven't felt dysphoria with my body. I'm female and quite curvy and it's something I'm very confident about. I see it as sexy but even on my more masculine days, I don't find it contradictory or dysphoric because for me it's something that I feel a connection to personally but not a gender connection to. If that makes any sense at all ha ha.
I also despise nipple sensation, I just find the feeling really unpleasant. Even just water hitting them, in the shower for example, is awful. Maybe it's because I'm ace though.
Me too. I've found that I have no sensation in terms of arousal, but am super sensitive to pain and other negative stuff. I probably won't even keep them when I get top surgery.
In the beginning where Grace is explaining why she will probably have to get top surgery, I've never really noticed before but she has beautiful eyes omg. I think she was just close enough to the camera there to actually see them as opposed to usually but just damn. Beautiful eyes
I'm a femme woman who loves my boobs, but I was watching this video and got curious about something. I have a keloid issue so I can't get tattoos or piercings because it would create infections. It would probably happen if I got surgery like this too. So I was wondering, how to people who want Top Surgery who have keloid issues deal with the disappointment of not being able to do it? If you feel comfy sharing, I would love to hear it
I don't know all the ins and outs of it, but there have definitely been some trans people who have had keloid scarring on their incisions. Nothing crazy, just looked like thicker and darker scars. For some, it didn't bother them that much, so they just left it, but for others, they had the option of steroid injections or surgical removal (which, unfortunately, carries the risk of them developing again).
I've been waiting for my binder for a few weeks now, and it'll probably come in two to three more and I'm really struggling without it. The moment I realized I needed one it was like a switched flipped and I ordered one immediately, and now I think about it all the time. I can't sleep sometimes because I'm imagining what it will be like. (It's taking so long because I ordered it from the US and I live in a different country which is quite far). I really feel like I can't wait any more :(
I really liked this video Ash, it was super informative and Alex did a *great* job explaining all the different types of top surgery and how they work. I hope one day both you and Grace can afford top surgery
I'm from Canada, and over here to start hormones all I had to do was sign a self referral/consent form and I was able to start T a few weeks after (I believe you have to be 18 or older though). Also my consultation for top surgery was free and the cost was roughly $2000 rather than $8000 for surgery itself because it was mostly covered by OHIP which stands for Ontario Health Insurance Plan, I also only had to wait roughly a year until the day of my surgery which is actually next month! I feel very lucky to live where I do because I understand it's very difficult for others to start HRT or get the surgery they desire.
i think about getting top surgery everyday. i have been binding for a year and a half and i am so ready to stop. unfortunately, i don't have the money and the doctor i would be interested in doing the surgery (dr garramone) is in florida and i live in illinois. also, dr garramone doesn't accept insurance so i would have to pay about $10,000 out of pocket. it really sucks and i don't want to be stuck binding for the rest of my life.i am very thankful though that i have a very supportive family.
I loved this, I loved this so much 😊! My favourite people in one video, and you're all so great and helpful and polite and just wonderful to see interacting and this is such an interesting topic to inform people about ^^ thank you all four of you ❤~
Thank you Ash this conversation is very informative. I have been thinking about have a double mastectomy one day due to family history. I am truly sorry for Grace. One of my friends regretted not doing it because she ended up with cancer. Do whatever feels right Ash!
Are you wearing a binder in this video and if so what kind? You're able to wear a V-neck without it showing and I'm curious everyone talks about how they can't wear wide necklines with them.
I'm glad you guys clarified about Grace, because I got freaked out! The only reason I've heard of needing to get top surgery for medical reasons is cancer, and I was so worried!
My Nana tested positive for BRCA 1. She had one breast removed with cancer when she was younger and when she was recently tested positive for the gene she had the other one removed and both reconstructed. Dad got tested positive for the gene. I got tested and I tested negative. Was kinda gutted in a way because I'm a G cup and would loved to have more of a reason to get double mastectomy and reconstructed with implants..smaller of course because they get in the way and hurt my back. I'm still considering getting it done anyway
Oh my gosh! I used to watch Alex's videos all the time and then for some reason I just stopped (actually, just realized that apparently youtube unsubbed me to him for some reason...uh..not nice :/ )so this is the first time I've seen him in like a year! He looks so good and his transition is going so well! :) He looks so happy! This was such an awesome surprise to stumble upon!
i'm nonbinary and i've hated my chest all my life. i've been finding myself seriously considering top surgery... wonder if my country recognizes transitioning for nb people/whether insurance would cover the costs.
Cause I live in Ontario Canada, top surgery is fully covered by OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) so all I gotta do is fill out the OHIP form and be secured for it, book a consultation and then be on the waiting list for about a year?? Idk the wait times are long with the surgeon I want.
I am sorry to hear about Grace's risk for cancer. Good luck about this and I really hope you can stay healthy.
AREN'T THESE TWO HANDSOME, SMART YOUNG MEN?! The answer is yes.
Yes
Yes OMG I love their videos
Ash Hardell i am trying to figure myself out, because i have identified as trans female in the past but as of recently i have been feeling differently, is it normal to keep thinking about yourself and is it okay to be a trans woman but still masculine

i really like the dialogue in this video, it gave me a perspective on how important it is for some people. I identify as a cisgender bisexual woman and I can't image hating your chest, and just as I typed that I realised how incredibly privileged that sounded. What I am actually trying to say, is that I really appreciate how open you are being about gender and the struggles with body image.

Yeah. I'm kind of ambivalent. They're weird, and inconvenient, and I get the feeling that they don't need to be there. But I don't feel strongly about it, so hmm.
I'm non binary and my friends are getting me a binder and I'm really happy ❤️
memeschronicles I'm trans ftm and I'm saving up for a binder. Currently, I have thirty-five dollars and I'm going to buy it this summer once I get enough for shipping and tax :')
Maxx that's awesome dude! Wishing you luck :)
memeschronicles Thanks lmao
congrats!! im waiting to get a binder i got through a giveaway and im so happy 😭
Fernanda F THATS SO COOL OMG
"I like it" *grace nods violently"

Jennifer Morrison I think that would just be (non gender-related) body dysphoria as opposed to gender dysphoria.
Sorry I can't help answer your question but why don't you just try a binder (or a sports bra if you haven't tried that) you can get different levels of compression & different sizes, so you could even try a size up so it is not as tight... Just to see if it makes you happier with your appearance.

Hey, there's nothing inherently wrong with plastic surgery. Your body, your choices.
Who cares? You don't have to be trans to not like/want breasts. Your feelings about your body are valid and you have every right to pursue any path that leads to you being happier and more comfortable. Don't let anyone make you feel differently, even trans people.
Alexander Camelton my weird feelings exactly
Alexander Camelton It's totally okay to not want breasts! Us trans folks want everyone to feel comfortable with their bodies. So go for it!

If nipple sensation is a priority look into inverted t procedure that's the kind I'm going to have. End of June SO EXCITED!!!
I'm happy for you! :)
It’s good but there are complications with the nerves folding up behind the nipple though
0:05 When Jake's name popped up why was there two red triangles by it?? Illuminati?
confirmed
HOLY SHIT! Jake I love you!
We get all the best people, all are welcome. Except judgemental bible bashers, we don't like them.
woah everyone's turning up to this comment party
There were also two red triangles when Alex's name popped up tho
this really helped me
I'm agender and I hate my boobs and have gender dysphoria about them
I'm young and currently have a binder that I love but I would love to get top sugery when I'm older

Yay! My four favourite people on TH-cam all together!
I also despise nipple sensation, I just find the feeling really unpleasant. Even just water hitting them, in the shower for example, is awful. Maybe it's because I'm ace though.
Nothing to do with being ace, people just like and dislike different sensations.
Sophia Christenfeld I don't like it either and I am a cis female.
True, but I think I'm more sensitive to it than most, I used to constantly wear a bra because my shirt touching my nipples was horrifying.
I also hate nipple sensation, even in the shower, or with some fabric textures. But I'm bisexual.
Me too. I've found that I have no sensation in terms of arousal, but am super sensitive to pain and other negative stuff. I probably won't even keep them when I get top surgery.
4:19 Ash just froze for like 10 seconds omg 😂♥️
MyChemicalTwentyOne ArcticSivanVeil ahahaong she did :')
This is soooo exciting! Too many amazing people in one room I can't even
In the beginning where Grace is explaining why she will probably have to get top surgery, I've never really noticed before but she has beautiful eyes omg. I think she was just close enough to the camera there to actually see them as opposed to usually but just damn. Beautiful eyes
Cyra They are gorgeous.
TIP for after surgery binder: I ended up putting a bandana in between my binder and right armpit area just cause it was cutting into me so bad.
Omg I'm so excited to see all 4 of you in one video!! love you guys so much.
If you feel comfy sharing, I would love to hear it
Can you explain your medical condition more please?
I don't know all the ins and outs of it, but there have definitely been some trans people who have had keloid scarring on their incisions. Nothing crazy, just looked like thicker and darker scars. For some, it didn't bother them that much, so they just left it, but for others, they had the option of steroid injections or surgical removal (which, unfortunately, carries the risk of them developing again).
I am learning a lot from your videos Ash - I love the inclusive, accessible and chilled out vibes. You are awesome! ☺ x
I feel so accepted and loved at this channel
I LOVE THAT MY FAVORITE PEOPLE ARE IN THE SAME ROOM
all my favorite youtubers in one video thats all I could ask for
Jackson Bird talked about getting back nipple sensation in one of his videos, but it probably depends on the person and the doctor.
I follow both you and Jake, and got to see this video in my subscription box twice.
I really feel like I can't wait any more :(
i've been waiting for this collab all my life 😍
I have learned so much by watching videos on TH-cam. I am choosey on who I follow.
LITERALLY ALL MY FAVORITE PEOPLE IN THE SAME ROOM TALKING IM IN AWE I love you all so much stay awesome☺💛
I had a little cry at this, you guys are cute and so inspiring. Big love x
Can I just say that Jake's voice is real cool. Vewy Nice!
Uh, now I feel dumb for not mentioning the content at all. The video was awesome and really informative! Thanks!
I love Jake's glasses! Great video Ash!
I'm so here for this collab
3 videos Jake ash and alex help I cant choose
It finally happened!!!
I really liked this video Ash, it was super informative and Alex did a *great* job explaining all the different types of top surgery and how they work. I hope one day both you and Grace can afford top surgery
My favorite people all together! made my day much better
My 3 faves collab 😍😍 I'm so happy right now
Loving all these videos with you people!!! You're all so lovely!!!
omg the part with Grace explaining about the cancer had me shocked and worried stay safe Grace
oh my goodness these two are so cute
I love Alex and Jake so much!
i think about getting top surgery everyday. i have been binding for a year and a half and i am so ready to stop. unfortunately, i don't have the money and the doctor i would be interested in doing the surgery (dr garramone) is in florida and i live in illinois. also, dr garramone doesn't accept insurance so i would have to pay about $10,000 out of pocket. it really sucks and i don't want to be stuck binding for the rest of my life.i am very thankful though that i have a very supportive family.
I'm glad Alex got the surgery! I remember him talking about his dysphoria.
Do whatever feels right Ash!
shiiiit Jake&Alex have grown so masculine since the last time I've seen them!
I love your channel so much, you are very inspirational
Are you wearing a binder in this video and if so what kind? You're able to wear a V-neck without it showing and I'm curious everyone talks about how they can't wear wide necklines with them.
Alex and Jake are GOALS!
ASH YOUR EDITING IS AMAZING 🙏🏽
y'all are so pretty, both guests and hosts. Also I am totally not gona write fanfiction about it.
Awesome! Lovely conversation, it was hella cool and I learned a lot :) Thank you! Amazing questions and amazing answers
I'm glad you guys clarified about Grace, because I got freaked out! The only reason I've heard of needing to get top surgery for medical reasons is cancer, and I was so worried!
THANK YOU TO INTRODUCING ME TO THEIR CHANNELS!!
These collabs are great!
AH i love you guys so much i've been waiting for these videos!
i love this video! it's so informative. really helped me out
I love ur videos so much!!! This was s beautiful video ur awesome Ash!

OMG I AM SO PUMPED FOR THIS COLLAB!!!!!!!!!!!
Flowabelle have you done research?
Cause I live in Ontario Canada, top surgery is fully covered by OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) so all I gotta do is fill out the OHIP form and be secured for it, book a consultation and then be on the waiting list for about a year?? Idk the wait times are long with the surgeon I want.
Thanks for making this video, it was very informative and interesting ❤ Also Jake and Alex are amazing! 😊💓
