The Best Trans Character is From A Miku Gacha Game???

- Mizuki Akiyama is honestly one of the best Transgender characters I've seen in any piece of media. It came in an unlikely place, a Hatsune Miku themed gacha rhythm game lol. I've been obsessed with Hatsune Miku Project Sekai haha, so let's talk about why I think Mizuki resonated with so many people!
Its coming very soon, so any extra support for my upcoming surgery would be amazing!

The game is surprisingly open ngl 😭 you have an and kohane from Vivid Bad Squad going on dates, saying “I love you!!” And describing their first meeting as making kohane’s “heart pound”. You have trans and mental health rep, plus my favorite line from Leo/Need, “I’m going on a date with my girlfriends!”
This game has my heart bro 😭 the only thing that makes me sad is how groups like Leo/Need and MMJ are overshadowed, and just denied rep from the fans :(
AND MINORI, THE YURI JESUS
@fwrmxx FR LIKE I KEEP ON SEEING THE CUSTOM PROFILES WITH MMJ AND DOKI DOKI LITERATURE FLUB LAMO 😭
transition gentleman costume from rui kamishiro's tsukasa4 4* card you will always be famous
Regarding her bedroom, I think the most important detail is the fact that initially the mirror is covered and later on it´s not

We don’t talk about the mirror in the Mizu5 trained card....
The fact that the mirror is still a little covered... (covering her face)
and in her mizu5 trained it is shattered
might i add: there's also a lot of cute little signs in the game, especially with how rui, an, and mizuki's sister help mizuki. idk if anyone wrote it here already, but many speculate that an gave mizuki a bow from her own school uniform because school gave mizuki a tie to hers(a part specifically assigned to a masc uniform). if you notice, an is wearing a tie in her school uniform design.
also about the imagery of the whole thing with mizuki's identity is handled amazingly. if you love symbolisms, take a look at the cards(and/or how they parallel not only with each other but other characters). there's a lot of butterflies, bows and mirrors, in her untrained and trained ones! i love that sega takes their character's seriously with the subtle queer rep, AND the NOT SO VERY SUBTLE trans rep with mizuki's character(something that many assholes on tiktok disregard to belittle my lovely pink daughter).

I want to cry everytime I see the happy mizuki on en and then I remember what happend in mizu5 😭
There is actually so much stuff in the game which only resonates with trans people - and not femboys! (Unfortunately some people, especially the Russian pjsk fandom, have little to no media literacy and cannot understand that Mizuki is trans and not a crossdresser). Even though her gender is not canonically confirmed (it is "???" online so it is kept ambiguous on purpose) there's so many things which only exist within the trans community, that if Mizuki was only a crossdresser I feel like the story would make no sense, because her whole story is about her identity, clothes have nothing to do with that other than affirming the identity she has.
One of the things I noticed are butterflies. In the banner for mizu5 (the shattered N25 logo) there are butterflies. In one of mizuki's trained 4* cards (it's called "Between feelings and reality") there are butterflies. Her bow in her signature outfits is also butterfly-shaped. Butterflies are very commonly attributed to the trans community because they represent rebirth and transforming into something beautiful.
Another thing I noticed is that, in the IDSMILE 3DMV, there is a small part where the lighting turns blue (typically associated with the male gender) and you can visibly see Mizuki being sad before becoming happy again when it turns pink (typically associated with the *female* gender) again.
This has been talked about a lot, but in the mizu4 untrained card, you can see young Mizuki wearing a male uniform, this is likely a "detransition" (although that's not really the word to use here) because she was bullied while wearing cute clothes beforehand and tried to change herself to fit in more (hence stopped wearing cute clothes). The bow she's holding symbolises the fact she still holds on to this love for cute things, and the title of this card is very fitting: "What gave me courage". In the trained version you can see her holding the same bow after transitioning and clearly being more confident in herself. This may be a bit of a stretch, but the light to the left of the trained card is blue and the light to the right of the card is pink, these being the 2 gendered stereotypical colors, and Mizuki is leaning towards the right, basking in the pink light, which could symbolise that she's more happy presenting femininely than masculinely.
Another thing which is less relevant but still could be used as symbolism is the fact that she is the only flat-chested character out of all female models, which many trans people often face as a form of gender dysphoria, *all the time*.
The mirror. The mirror in Mizuki's room when she was young was covered up, meaning she was too uncomfortable to look at herself for one reason or another (presumably gender dysphoria), and in her present room, her mirror is no longer covered up, which could show that she is finally comfortable enough able to look at herself after becoming who she really is on the inside. And to add extra context to this, after mizu5 the mirror is shattered in her trained card, which shows that all of her confidence as a girl came crashing down when she was outed by her bullies. Her room also has the same gender-stereotypical symbolism as I mentioned before, which is that the room is coated with shades of blue when she is young, but shades of bright pink after transitioning.
Her online alias "amia" in N25 is also related in my opinion. Mizuki is a gender-neutral name in Japan, which means that, to her, the name could still be seen as masculine, a shadow from her past. She had the liberty to be somebody else on the internet and choose her own name, so she picked "amia" which is a feminine name in Japan, because she wants to forget her past and move forward as female.
You can also see the fact that Rui no longer uses "kun" when referring to Mizuki. He literally uses kun when referring to everyone, even females, and you can see him use it when referring to Mizuki before she transitioned. However, he stopped using it for Mizuki after her transition to affirm her chosen identity, because he knows that she's uncomfortable with it.
This one is just a theory, but the reason that An wears a tie and Mizuki wears a bow, is that Mizuki and An swapped them during Mizuki's transition such that she was less uncomfortable with the (presumably) masculine clothes she was wearing during that period.
Now to talk about the commissioned songs; there is soooo much that I could pick out here but I'll try keep this short.
She has a cover of ヴィラン (Villain), which is a song about being villainised because you are trans even though those people know nothing about you, they just know that you are trans.
In kitty, she uses "あたし" instead of "ぼく" to refer to herself which, in my opinion, is on purpose.
In 化けの花, essentially in one verse this is said: "it's as if a flower of transformation has bloomed, I can't go back to being a bud again". The intentions of these lyrics are clear as water; Mizuki was a "bud" (before she transitioned) and bloomed into a "flower" (transfem)
She also said "without seeing it, you can't understand right?" (I'm not sure if i translated this part correctly, please correct me if I'm wrong) which basically means that she passes so well as a girl that without knowing her secret you would have had no idea the secret existed at all, which, I believe, is one of the primary goals for many trans girls/boys/non-binary people.
Of course, all of this is my personal interpretation, but in context all of these things would make NO sense if Mizuki was just a femboy, and frankly, in my opinion the story would be far more bland if she *was* just a femboy. There are also way more slight context clues that show further implication that Mizuki is trans, even if it isn't canon just yet. I love Mizuki! She is a beautifully written character and is amazing representation for the trans community. I tried not to go into the sad parts of her story (including going into detail on Mizu5), because I'm trying to keep this thread light-hearted and hopeful, however there are many situations in which the misery and despair of being trans shines through, and this is just as relatable as everything else and is directly encoded into the trans community.
I personally think that in the lyrics of Bake no Hana the "flower of transformation" and "bud" could also be an allegory for the transformation that happened after her secret was revealed (she can't go back to how everything was before)
But one of my favorites confirmations of her gender identity, to me at least, is in the first chapter of "Where Does the Path of Thorns Lead To", where we see some comments people have made about her in the past that wouldn't make a lot of sense for a femboy, such as:
"Isn't that just creating a personality?"
"He might just be confused, right?"
"When you are young, there are periods you fall under that impression, after all"
They were acting as if it wasn't a crucial aspect to Mizuki's identity, just as phase, a character or a style choice, not something as serious as she makes it seem to be. Those comments wouldn't make much sense for a femboy character.
just wanna correct that and now the ribbon is tied is mizu3, not 4 (mizu4 is kitty). also, rui will eventually stop using -kun for someone, such as with nene. its likely that after a few years, he gets close enough to someone for formalities such as that to drop (nene he’s known since childhood, iirc he’s known mizuki since his last year of middle school, which would be 3 years by the start of the game. he still refers to emukasa with -kun, and they’re the next two closest to him)
What if Mizuki is just an Otokonoko instead? It's completely different from femboy, it genuinely fits more within the company to do that since they are Japanese.
@@Kitsune-P SEGA is actually known for including LGBTQ+ characters in their games and being very progressive despite being Japanese!「 男の娘」still implies crossdressing or presenting femininely but still male, which doesn't really make sense for みずき because her whole character is centered around her identity (the whole point of IDSMILE). I do see where you're coming from, and I absolutely agree that Japan may be less progressive than other countries, however SEGA specifically is very supportive of LGBTQ+ people.
@@diirectorr_ True, my apologies I got very confused after analyzing for so long. It is indeed from Mizu3 not Mizu4. And I didn't catch that part about Rui! I totally have to read all of the WxS stories at some point.
i was also surprised at how mizuki’s 5th event literally screamed that mizuki was trans considering how hidden it used to be and how japan is, and so i got a whiplash being one of the ppl who just thought of it as ppl’s headcanons, which i dont rlly care about. then again i never dug into it that much, but i appreciate the representation from a miku gacha game. mizuki is indeed well written
Okay, I downloaded this because of this video and...Mizuki is adorable, but I'm also feeling kinda called out by Mafuyu and I looked at the lyrics to some of the N25 songs and I'm not crying aaah...Thanks for bringing it to my attention. :3
we got another one folks!!
Project sekai is one of my favourite games of all time, perhaps even my favourite
Before I even knew I was trans, I never really read any story outside of Honami’s group (my pfp) - Leo/need, but I did watch Mizu2 (rooftop event) and I started to resonate with Mizuki. Then stuff happened, I realised I was trans, the Mizuki made so much more sense. Mizuki’s character was such an accurate representation of trans identity and I overcame some of my own problems after watching her events, even after Mizu5 (I cried for 1 HOUR after reading that)
I’m so glad you covered this game that I put so much love into. We all hope for Mizuki’s return to the real world (Ena, Rui, An and Yuuki we are counting on you)
0:44 DAWG NOT THE OMINOUS BELL😭😭😭😭
I love mizuki so much
I've spent too many crystals for them, but it is worth it for them
The impact of mizu5 for Mizuki is actually quite underestated, tho it couldn't be helped since not everyone knows Japanese. In particular, look at the disparity between IDSMILE's lyrics which is mizu1 and Bake no Hana which is mizu5. Oh god, an entire video with focus on just Bake no Hana would help explain how brittle the entire situation has become. (Nakiso actually has official translations on their channel.)
I really wanted to include parts about bake no hana but I kinda had a deadline for this video. I might revisit Mizuki in another video when more of her story is released
Out of all the trans video game characters, you're one of my favorites! Miss Lucy
awww thank you lol
I've seen many people not understand why Mizuki ran away instead of listening to Ena, but these people seem to forget that time and time again, we've been shown that Mizuki has a "flight" response to panic (Just like Mafuyu has a "Fawn" response and Ena has a "Fight" response) and having been in that situation myself, i can say with all confidence that Mizuki had a very realistic reaction and i love it (From a writing perspective, i still hate it emotionally).
I personally thing that, while Rui, An and/or Yuuki are likely to play a part, i feel that, ultimately, it is going to be Ena and MEIKO who save Mizuki. It just HAS to be Ena for Mizuki to get some closure. One of the main reasons i think this way is because Mizuki was not outed to An, Rui or Yuuki, she was outed to Ena. Ena has to be the one to confront Mizuki. She did it in "My Footprints, Your Destination" and she has to do it again now. She now knows (somewhat) Mizuki's secret, so now she has to REALLY face her and save her. Plus, anyone from outside of Niigo would not be able to follow her to Empty Sekai if she decides to hide there, so it HAS to be someone from Niigo and Ena is the best option.
Then again, i also have some MizuEna bias...Tho i ship both MizuEna and MizuRui because both ships are just cute af.
Mizuki my fav little (currently sad) bean.
I also wanna say that Ena's va also deserves praise for her voice acting. Both of their voice actors killed it!
8:30 "making music that feels painful but makes you feel good [...] what's the word"
maybe the word ur looking for is "cathartic"? ^^
Yeah that fits
Gotta love how her commission songs (songs made for the characters) resonate with this, especially IDsmile and Bake no Hana, IDsmile talks about identity and Bake no Hana talking about despair and hiding her true self. Lower, Kimi no Yoru o Kure and Kitty are still great, Lower talking about the uneasiness of it, Kimi no Yoru o Kure talking about how she wants a peaceful night, and Kitty is mainly about Mafuyu and Mizuki's advice to run away without a care while Kitty also can be seen as a message to Mizuki herself. Honestly most commissioned songs are really thought out.
i really love how an and rui protect/respects her 😭😭 i love their friendship so much (like the theory of mizuki's bow and an's tie ☹️) great video btw!! ❤️
it's such a sweet friendship!!! especially with mizuki and rui
might be biased since they're my two favorite characters from ANY media, but they have such a wholesome dynamic
two lonely kids bonding over their shared trauma..... they're so special to me
Awesome I was wondering if you’d found out about Mizuki! Also to anyone interested in playing the game a quick heads up that the English server of the game is about a year behind so that viral event is not yet in that server but it’s a good chance to catch up on the story 😊
Came back to add more cuz I had a thought: one of my fav parts about this games story with all of the characters none of them do the typical anime thing of a ton of fan service or even following typical anime tropes. Because of this all of these characters feel so much more real and relatable even with the “Sekai” technically being a fantasy element it doesn’t give them powers it gives them a place to talk about their feelings in a truly safe place being accepted there no matter what’s going on. Something about that makes me feel so comforted.
Also there’s a part with the song Kitty where Mizuki sings “Atashi no naka~” and something about hearing Mizuki use Atashi instead of Boku sounded super powerful.
im so happy that this game exists and is so globally popular. i hope this does major work in progressing trans acceptance around the world.
Vocaloid is a huge genre of music that carrys alot of other genres of music whitch is reflected by each group being representative of some of the main genres music included in the vocaloid genre, but to add to that from the VERY START of vocaloid music a huge part of producers and listeners are queer and there is quite a bit of songs that are explicitly trans and about identity (one of the most popular ones is 'villan' -vflower, whitch is covered by mizuki and is an in game song) and i feel thatbmizuki being representative of that part of the vocaloid genre a very important and amazing, i adore the way they portrayed mizuki and i could wright a full essay on it if i wanted, but im so glad that they portrayed this part of the vocaloid fandom and music and jm so glad thatthey didnt go down the average rout for making a trans character just for having a trans character.
I apologise for any spelling mistakes btw😭
im so happy Self-Inflicted Achromatic (Jishoumushoku) was a song assigned to Nightcord. SUCH a good song that i recommend to anyone who has depression and enjoys sad music about their experiences.
I still don’t understand how people say she’s transmasc or an “otokonoko” when it’s clear that she’s transfem 💔
Most of it is just ragebait but it gets really annoying 😢
Mizuki appreciation let's go
If you want to know about another well written trans character specifically in a gacha game, you should check out Arashi Narukami from ensemble stars! Though she didnt have the best writing regarding her gender in the early days of the game, now shes fully seen as female and overall shes such a sweet character ^_^
Nightcord isn’t the only group with dark content. The more more jump main story contains a lot of heavy stuff regarding the idol industry. Despite being the “happy group”, mmj has many great stories if you like darker things
there's also (what comes to mind, but i'm mostly a wandasho and niigo fan so yeah)
- leo/need: chronic illness (saki's), bullying
- vivid bad squad: frequent feelings of inferiority, cancer, death and grief (all related), and abusive parents (toya's parents)
- wonderlands x showtime: grief (emu's grandfather), child neglect, albeit accidental (the tenma parents accidentally neglected tsukasa throughout his childhood), more feelings of inferiority (the scene where tsukasa cries in his 3rd focus comes to mind), bullying (so much of this in rui's backstory. oh i need to hug him.), SO much loneliness (among all four of them), actually something you might interpret as ableism (as i mentioned, rui was bullied, and he's HIGHLY autistic coded, so it might be seen as ableism. especially since the usual being called weird stuff is there.), *_chronic_* loneliness (definitely seems like rui suffers from this), of course there's the knowledge that wxs will inevitably disband one day, no matter how much they don't want to lose each other, probably mental illness (i am once again referring to rui. he's definitely not exactly the epitome of mental health, that's for sure...), etc etc etc. but i'm tired
@@mizukittyakinyama I mainly focused on mmj in my comment since it includes a lot of those things and they’re my favorites.
-Bullying (cheerful*days and even younger Airi)
-Feelings of inferiority (Airi mostly, sometimes Minori)
-Neglect (Shizuku (and Shiho) in “the moon rabbit and us” are left on their own a lot the main thing I think emphasizes this is Shizuku offering to act as Shiho’s mom)
-Other family issues (Airi’s implied bad relationship with her older sister that everyone seems to ignore)
-PTSD (Haruka in the main story; this is basically confirmed with her saying that the doctors said the problem was all in her head)
-Stories even touch on feelings that most people can relate to like growing apart from a childhood friend, body insecurity, the feeling of needing to be perfect
-Being forced to choose between either being something you don’t want or being nothing, etc.
-One of the stories references sexual harassment
-Depression just in general
2:34 she uses boku written in katakana actually which is a little different from the regular written in hiragana^^
I wouldn't say Akiba maid war anime is 100% trans, but it has some things that I read as trans. And is relatable to a Trans-fem person.
- Being a maid is very much apart of the character identity and who they are. And being a maid makes you cute.
- It also focuses on a subjugated maid café who has to fight to stay alive and the right to be maids and thrive as maids.
- The show has a. Anyone can be a maid and you can be a maid in your way. kind of tone.
- It also has character who is 35 who is seen as cute. And that is kind of rare in anime.
Yooo i played that miku game, but i didnt got that deep into the story so i never knew there was a trans characters in any of the groups lol
its a very fun game!!
Here's hoping GTA 6 has good trans representation! (Half-joking, well, maybe serious!)
There is also an implied lesbian!! i think no one can deny minori isnt a girlkisser lol
@@akutgw1 VBS and MMJ are easily the most gay coded things I’ve ever seen lol
@ma.2089 i agree!! both are my favs too lmaoo
Cool! I didn’t know project sekai had a (implied) trans character.
Also, hearing you talk about the game reminds me a lot of a different rhythm game I play called Bandori. They almost sound like the same game lol.
Project Sekai and Bandori are made by the same company and are extremely similar, they reuse tons of UI and gameplay elements.
Wasn't ready for it, but I enjoyed the new camera setup.
yay! glad you enjoyed it, I think it works a bit better than the old one
ITS BC PJSK INNGENERAL HAS VERY VERY WELL WRITTEN CHARACTERS AND MIZUKI IS NONOOO EXCEPTION! we love the pjsk cast and we love mizuki being the fandoms favorite 💞💞
EVEN GOOD AUTISM REP!!! because rui is the MOST autistic coded character i've ever seen, that's one of the possibly infinite reasons i love him so much
I've been playing project sekai for over 2 years and i love mizuki's character so much! She's my favorite and she helped me figure out i was trans myself :))) also MIZURUI MENTION!!!!!!!!! AAAAAA I LOVE MIZURUI SO MUCH THEY ARE MY OTP THEY MEAN EVERYTHING TO ME
btw t4t mizurui supremacy I'm sega's pet goldfish trust!!!!!!!!!
OH MY GOD NESS?? HEYYY IT'S ME STAR (mizuribbons)!!!!!
t4t mizurui for life i'm the first o in colorful palette (... because it is the second letter. 2... you know)
@mizukittyakinyama OH MY GOD STARRRRR HELLO :DDD I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE ON YT!!!!!
realrealrealreal!!!!!!!
Cracked video, and I’m happy to see it from you esp cause you’re epic. I’m glad her reach is so much more than I initially thought and that makes me so happy.
there is so much attention to detail in mizu5 that really makes it hit hard ngl
idk if you've read the lyrics for kimi no yoru wo kure (mizu's third comm) but they used that song in the mizu5 aftershow and i think that's perfect in such a cruel way.
in the gacha for mizu5 they used the part of zamuza that goes "How do I look like now? Am I unsightly? Of course I am".
Nakiso (producer of bake no hana) also added IDSMILE parallels alongside the card having the same parallels. fairly sure bake no hana uses the minor key of idsmile??? but i could be wrong on that i just remember some person called earthy discussing the two songs and their parallels from a music perspective in great detail. bnh's bpm is 180 as well, which is the average heart rate for a panic attack. it's such a tiny detail but it perfectly captures mizuki's mental state after being outed
another thing i love is the lighting for mizuki's untrained mizu5 card is harsh, while ena's is the exact same lighting as mizu2. for mizu it's the end of the world (some people have linked this to heat abnormal) while ena's opinion is the same. she's confused yes, but she still loves mizuki for mizuki and sees mizuki the same way, but her expression has been deliberately drawn as one that can be seen as disgust (which it's obviously not). she's looking at mizuki differently and it's her worst nightmare. and on the trained card some people have had a dark interpretation about the ribbon that appears in the card and mizuki's pose but i wont go into that here because it is really dark, but consistent with nightcord's theme of mental health. speaking of that ribbon, it connects every card but it breaks in i think KAITO's, who appears before ena's, showing how disconnected mizu is. mizu's card is also the darkest card in the set. they're all white except mizu's, which perfectly reflects her mental state.
there could be more i missed too
honestly mizu5 is proof to me that the developers love this game and put so much effort into it from all angles. i love this game so much and mizuki's so important
as for my personal experiences with mizu i as a trans guy used to feel like I wasnt allowed to relate to mizuki bc she's tfem and i'm tmasc (pretty silly i know i was 16) but honestly everything about mizuki really is relatable. i'm a leo/need and mmj oshi, but mizu's probably one of my favourite characters because of how well-written and relatable she is
apologies for the long comment this event means a lot
neat fact about kimi no yoru wo kure: sato hinata confirmed in the after talk (different from the after live) that mizuki's vocals in kimi no yoru wo kure are actually what she sounded like in middle school! iirc it's because she was thinking of mizuki and rui's friendship
ur so real for this whole video pookie........ mizuk is one of the best trans reps EVER and as a russian person i hate how transhobic and awful the community is here so i apologise on a behalf of all of the the he/him mizuki believers T_T i see myself a lot in her as an extremely feminine afab nonbinary person because i know nobody except like very few people will actually see me as a anything but a cis girl and while i get that it can be hard being kind & respectful living in such homophobic circumstances (being queer is illegal in russia) IDGAF IM SO ANGRY trans rights are human rights btw ^_^
and also yeah ur spitting facts mizurui is the best ship in the game. sorry for being based (sigh /j as i actually respect other peoples opinions). also ur very pretty
Miku games are always a fun time, just the chance to play some fun rhythm games about a wide variety of subjects with both girls and boys dancing on the stage is nice, but Project Sekai outright having a clearly gender-nonconforming, very likely trans character is extremely nice of it, and the things they did for the game to emphasize how important this all is to Mizuki in the game is very powerful, gacha game or not. Thanks for making a video that solidly summarizes Mizuki's story up to this point, this was a fun video for me to watch and it seems like it was very informative/helpful to a bunch of others as well!
Nightcord is probably one of my favorite groups in the game, Kanade and Mafuyu are a pretty clear lesbian couple, people also ship Mizuki and Ena but it's not as direct in the actual text of the game, and now Mizuki is trans, which is really awesome. Like my two favorites are N25 and WXS, which are both sort of about found family and being outcasts from the norm, where WXS is a much more fun and silly take on things.
theres no canon ships /lh 😭 basically everything is platonic unless you ship a certain ship
Kanade and mafuyu ?.. Couple..?.. Nothings canon or even implied, the closest you can get to canon is minoharu, and its STILL only semi canon
that ship is SO toxic bffr
@@zyuukiraa read the stories its not toxic. kanade literally saved mafuyu and brought her comfort and a safe space when no one else could. mafuyu is a very complex character, but she loves kanade and the group. HOW is this toxic?
@@emiiheavenly kanade pushes away all her needs to compose music to save her due to her savior complex ofc it’s toxic why don’t you read the stories even if they were to be together only one person would be benefiting out of the relationship which is mafuyu
Mizuki has been my favourite character for quite a while now. I really appreciate this sort of content around her, since I relate to them so much.
OMG NOT MY FAVORITE TRANS TH-camR MAKING A VIDEO ON MY FAVORITE GAME EVERRR 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I'm so glad Project Sekai is finally getting some recognition for its incredible writing because Mizuki isn't the only character that's written with such precision, care, authenticity, and realism. It's just most pronounced with her because it's so rare to see a trans character let alone one done this well. Honami, Haruka, Minori, An, Saki, Emu, Akito, and Kanade are also some of the most amazing, complex, and lifelike characters in anything I've read recently. I'm hopeful that the massive success of Mizu5 will get more people excited about other parts of the story because every single character has such a beautiful narrative.
In the most recent new years event, which was Mizuki focused, when she was in elementary school, she was bullied cause she wore cute clothes and wondered if she should stop wearing it but her sister said that even though she’ll face problems, she should always be herself. Also in the same event, Mizuki and her sister meets up with another character, Shiho who doesn’t like wearing ‘girly’ and frilly clothes even though she likes cute things, and when Mizuki tried to get Shiho to wear a cute brooch, her sister says that people have different styles and what they like might not be the same as what they like to wear which I feel like it’s very poignant.
Im a trans guy who's related *heavily* to Mizuki since i started playing, and i love that they made her story very clear while also making her a character so so many people can relate to. Also the nuance of her not exactly being afraid of her friends disliking her, but specifically being afraid of them viewing her differently, viewing her as a trans girl instead of just a girl, or someone who's amab instead of just a girl, is so crazy to see in a silly rhythm game and i was not expecting it but it hits so hard.
Edit: i was also outed in school, despite not being out to the person who did it, and i was also outed to a friend who i was not able to come out to at the time. I was scared of him seeing me differently, treating me differently, and so I couldn't tell him. And this random girl in his homeroom was chatting with him, and someone jokingly mentioned hating me, and she said "oh, no, i just hate him because hes trans." Regardless of if that was a joke or not, it wasnt okay. The end of Mizu5 gave me THE SAME feeling of sinking dread and horror being outed gave me. Her and her story are genuinely written so well, and the fact people without media literacy are insistent on the fact shes a "crossdresser" is insane to me.
new camera angle! :0
yep!!!! been doing massive room cleans recently! I finally have an area to do makeup and conveniently if I place a camera in my new makeup area... the natural sunlight comes in!!! I'm very happy with this new camera angle lol
👀 I am anxiously awaiting the video
5:42 i am literally the number one fan of the mizurui dynamic so i got so excited when you brought rui up HDBHDFHHFHC especially since he's one kf my favorites as well
to me they are _both_ trans and i would like to make that known
anyways i haven't finished watching but so far this is a really good video!!!
Im so happy proseka is getting more recognition because of Mizuki. It has excellent writing.
In regards to that song IDSMILE it's actually like I D Smile, the katakana title is アイディスマイル (Ai Di Sumairu), which considering that's ID as in like... ID, definitely fits in with the lyrics and looks like a pretty spot on interpretation that it's about Mizuki's identity.
was really interesting, and would love to hear about more trans character
(also convinced me to download the game, but sadly it isn't available in my region -_-)
glad you enjoyed the video! sorry to hear the game isn't available in your region tho :(
reading the nightcord world link event on mizuki's chapter after knowing what happens in mizuki5 just breaks my heart, i hope ena5 or kanade5 comes soon...

@@mizukittyakinyama REALEST EVER
Nice video, Miku is my favourite vocaloid character!
No cause that event is basically the pivoting point of Sekai’s story writing as a whole and Christ was it a damn tsunami of reactions.
Also yeah it’s basically the last tiny part of herself that hasn’t disappeared in the eyes of everyone purely because she’s afraid of being alone. Like seriously it’s bad and I want to get her a whole luxury spa package at this point.
I love t4t mizumafu
mizumafu mention :D
it's great that both ships of mizuki paired with either purple character are incredibly t4t
this story hit so hard, i got to watch it with someone i really love and care for who’s in a similar position (she’s not trans but she’s lgbtq and in a high at risk area socially like i am)
i was just sitting there in silence the whole time watching, especially the last 2 chapters
for me i’m not necessarily completely trans, i’m just a bigender (boy/girl) myself, so it won’t be the same experience as binary trans people
but i do feel similarly that i really don’t want people to think that the gendered stereotype i present as is the one i was assigned at birth. sometimes i wonder if the bigenderedness is to compensate for every time i did feel aligned with my assigned biological sex, when the truth is that i don’t want to feel like that was really what i was assigned with. i want people to assume that i’m trans, just not in the way they think, and that people would automatically use the other gender’s pronouns on me instead of the one i’ve heard all my life, because everyone in my life at this point in time knows what my biological sex is because it’s the same pronouns and hardly the pronouns of the other gender.
i always thought it was because i was one of those people who just liked most of what the other gender does, and for a long time even past high school graduation i thought it was a misunderstanding i had about myself. even had “crushes” on the opposite gender when it was mainly gender envy and platonic attraction. and well…it was a misunderstanding i had about myself, just not in the way i thought. at least i know now
and i hate that if i ever tell the people from my school (which is. conservatively christian so that’s a mix of religious grooming in there, only broke out of it because of my friends i found for myself who are all unfortunately not in the same province or country at all) they’ll just think i’m confused and brainwashed by the woke mob, because “that’s not true, you’re clearly a [insert gender here]”
though it hasn’t happened to me, i can’t help but resonate with mizuki when she shouted that she “can’t help but hate that” when it comes to the “kindness” that everyone’s born with.
also, i along with my friends see mizuki as transfem so we use she/they (just a hc tho!) for them, and that’s what i’d like to be seen as too (for clarification: specifically that i’m presenting transfem and not the other way around)
Yesss please more videos like this!!!
Doesn't have to be mizuki necessarily, but I just love character analyses of gender non-conforming people
Your Japanese is good. You are right 秘め事 is not very used. 秘密 is much more common. So while both may have the same book definition, I suppose it's much like how in English you may have many synonyms like "agreement, promise, deal, vow, contract" etc. when there are different nuances.
So 秘め事 to my mind carries a more romantic nuance than 秘密 in this context. Or maybe it's just because one is 4 kana and the other is 3 for song-writing purposes, which is also possible.
I just left work and saw the notification fastest video click in the west and simply put video goes hard.
what happened to her is sad, but it's cool to see the writers deciding to keep it a secret like a lot of trans people do
[ Hey, it's been about like, two weeks or so since I commented on here but I'm rewriting this comment because the replies of the other one got messy and I didn't really feel like dealing with it anymore so here I am writing another one because I still feel like what I have to say is important. ]
I believe that the game's writing is 100% leaning towards Mizuki being a trans character. It puts a lot of effort into really laying out the groundwork, and trusts that the reader is able to connect the dots to really understand what it's going for. It's something about the game I really appreciate, it just presents the story and believes in you to really empathize and understand them and their struggles.
On top of it, the games very much use color choice to it's advantage to further hammer things home, from her Nightcord profile picture, to the coloring of the Fragment SEKAI, to the ribbon from [Secret Distance] being interestingly colored in the exact pattern as a trans flag. This ribbon being put center frame of the card art, it's attention directed towards it
It's also the same ribbon that Kanade is depicted holding for her Mizu5 2☆ card. Not only tying back to the start of the plotline, but a symbol in regards to Mizuki herself.
It's really baffling to me how people can see the results of the Mizu5 event and somehow get the idea that Mizuki is somehow intended to be a boy, as I feel like it REALLY doesn't make all too much sense in terms of the writing.
A lot of people trying to argue in favor of that interpretation always feel like they fall flat and don't have a leg to stand on when zooming out onto the whole picture of Mizuki's story...
Like when Mizuki is with Nightcord she's made mention that being with them as it is now makes her comfortable, stating how she can really be herself around them, and I have every reason to believe that it's because of the way Nightcord see Mizuki as when they met, she didn't need to present in a certain way because there wasnt any need for it and ultimately seems to have never made mention of being a boy at all. I don't listen to the game with voices but I'm almost entirely certain that Mizuki's voice back then isn't all too different in the past and then so Ena, Kanade, and Mafuyu would really only have that voice to go on, and so it've very likely that they all interpreted Mizuki as a girl, and not having to worry about being seen weirdly, being percieved as something different than that makes her feel good.
The EN script does use They/Them in reference to Mizuki but I think that's moreso a writing decision for the sake of ambiguity as her gender from the very beginning of the game was never specified, with the (while removed in Brand New World) gender section of the profiles being listed as "???" (There's honestly a chance the reason this gender section was removed was specifically to account for Mizuki's story going forward.)
Another notable thing about Mizuki is the way the game explicitly draws a line of seperation from the past and present. Mizuki's masculine presentation has only ever been seen as something of the past, while Mizuki's current self always does so femininely. Mizuki went from looking one way back then and then going the complete opposite direction in the present and it spells out a very straightforward depiction of transitioning. Mizuki even makes mention in [Carnation Recollection] that Kanade helped the "old me and current me" as if those two are distinct individuals not associated with each other.
Mizuki's a really powerful story of identity. Choosing to live as your authentic self regardless of the ridicule you face. And so much of it feels very much linked to trans identity as well, to the point where it's probably actually the direction it's going
Of course I don't ever expect the game to explicitly say it, because it really doesn't need to. All it needs to do is affirm that Mizuki is Mizuki and you can really put the pieces together yourself (which I'm pretty sure it already has done)
And if it does actually explicitly state it, then it'd be that much stronger of a story. This game is really amazing and means a lot to me, and I appreciate it for all that it does with it's characters. Not just with Mizuki, or even just Nightcord, but the entire cast :3
4:00 Note the shelf over the bed, the books color and order. The pillows and their styling on the bed and chair. The numerous items shaded pink.
i started playing pjsk because of kanade, and she's still my favourite character but mizuki is a close 2nd
Thank you so much for talking abut her, I have been a big fan of Miku since 2014 and been playing the game since 2021, as a trans myself I immediately loved N25 and Mizuki (also Mafuyu since in the past I related a lot to her) and got me impressed how well written the stories are, I just would have loved they did more lively animations since live 2d looks a little cheap but the voice acting and written compensates a lot, what I also love is that even though I was a big Kinnie of Mizuki I was in denial about being trans, and recently like couple months before Mizu5 I accepted myself and stated hormones at my 20th birthday (kinda crazy since started playing the game when I was the age of Mizuki)
0:44 the bell... i can hear it ringing...,.,,.
0:46 the ominious bell..
Love this video, although I kind of wish Ena's role got mentioned a bit more :( She's a very important part in Mizuki's character, and people are actually speculating this will be resolved in her next event (Ena5) if anything -- she's the one who gave Mizuki enough hope to want to reveal her secret to Nightcord, after all. It would only make sense if she's the one to see this through to the end and truly hear Mizuki's perspective
With that said, this is a great video!! I love the impact Mizuki (and Mizu5 specifically) have brought to so many people, and I hope the conclusion to this arc does justice to what's been set up here 🎉
Extremely valid! I do agree the video doesn't mention her enough. If I do a follow up when mizuki has more story to talk about I'll try to highlight ena more
@fairyprincesslucy Glad to hear that!! Sorry if I sounded rude, it was more of a tiny nitpick than anything, the video is still amazing and I love how in depth it is :D
Pjsk is one of the best and most well written games ever imo
agreed!!!
its not the same old "im afraid of coming out" because thats the surface level of it, its the "im afraid they wont see me the way i see myself and will treat me differently because im trans"
Mizuki's so real (imma trans guy but i relate to her sm)
this was so interesting! i haven't played project sekai because i put all my time into project diva instead :3 (it doesn't have any story though, which makes me tempted to get into project sekai)
i liked this video but i already had some interest in the source material, so in terms of continuing this series for other trans characters, i would probably be more likely to watch those videos if they were a bit shorter (10-15mins). obviously im just one viewer and you should make the content you wanna make, but i hope that's useful input :)
Yeah overall I've been slowly making videos shorter! But I'm glad you enjoyed the video
i just wanna say their is lore and some of the lore is terrifying
4:00 you can also see that her mirror is covered while later on it's not :3
YES SHE IS
Mizuki is literally me bc we both are nb tf

anyways are you just saying this because it's "not a queer ship"? i assure you a vast majority of mizurui fans see them as t4t and usually bisexual, sometimes a qpr often with rui being gay (this is actually my hc for them. i love qpr t4t mzri)
the camera angle looks great, I'll check out the game later. My daughter loves Japanese stuff
oh no she’s aware of the bells tolling
Girl you should totally add slide whistles at the start and end of the videos if you’re gonna be rising up and lowering down below-frame 😂
spoiler? dont read if you havent read the new year mizuki event:
yes, as a kid mizuki wore cute/feminine clothes to school after her sister gifted it to her. she was asked questions like "why is a guy wearing a girls clothes?" ....soon after the day is over she's sad and doesn't wear cute clothes. Her sister notices and brings her to the mall since mizuki loved to look at cute stuff with her. mizuki only seems more hurt at the mall, still remembering what the kids said. it ends with mizuki crying, asking if she's weird for wearing cute clothes and her sister consoling her........and then her sister left to work abroad n she decided to hide her identity, knowing now that society doesnt take too kindly to trans people, it made her miserable and unapproachable.
i knew it was a good time for me to become a hatsune miku fan 😤
edit: on a side note, how good is project sekai? i really wanna buy and play hatsune miku: project diva mega mix+, and i've seen people online say that project sekai is a good free alternative.
I love project sekai and diva, they are pretty different but its very easy to play it for free thankfully
@@fairyprincesslucy i'll have to try it out then! my only real rhythm game experience is yakuza/like a dragon karaoke, so it'll be exciting to branch out into a different style of rhythm game
pjsk is a very good game! the story is super good, and the rhythm game aspect is fun too!
I at least know of this one.
I am on an utaite server (that whole thing started me accepting I am trans). Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a compilation to watch.
Excited to watch later.
I’m really interested in the story of PJSK, but I’m visually impaired and can’t read the small text 😅 might end up just trying to figure out where the stories line up and reading it off the wiki
There are people who upload the Japanese events on TH-cam and place their own english subtitles on it which tend to be bigger this might be a way you could still experience the story
@@fairyprincesslucyOkay, I’ll look into that! Is there a certain person you’d recommend?
We shall cherish EN Mizuki while we can bros.. We finna get the same tragedy later on💀
As a non-trans, Colorful Stage! player, I’m interested to hear that that’s the “best one”. Mizuki’s very well written and a complex character with many sides to her, so it’s interesting to see that she’s from a VOCALOID rhythm game 😭
Alright so this is how my favorite characters went like:
Minori (first started game)
Rin
Minori and Haruka
Haruka
Haruka and airi
Haruka and mafuyu
Ena
Haruka, airi and Mizuki (now and for the past like 3 months)
N25 characters are the best unit,
Have the strongest struggles and better music hahaha
And Mizuki is kind of the glue of then all ♡
Also glad to find more rui/mizuki shippers hahaha
This randomly makes me think about Bridget from Guilty Gear I mean technically it was the towns choice cuz twins were supposedly bad luck I believe but then again, the funny part was it took years to figure out she was trans.
Note: Mizuki does not say ぼく or 僕 [boku], she says ボク [boku]. The difference is the intotation. The first two go down then up, while the latter goes up then down. The former is considered the correct pronunciation while the latter is considered childish or cute, which is likely why she uses it
pjsk livestream when? 🫠
I don't know how to stream my mobile screen I admit haha but maybe someday!
OH HI
It took me a while to know that you were trans :0 you look like you were born a woman it’s so pretty
Yippee!!!!
